One year on

A year ago today we lost 2-1 at home to Barnsley, in what I certainly consider to be the lowest point of last season. It was at the end of a quite dreadful six weeks, in which we'd had mediocre home draws against strugglers in Peterborough, Ipswich and Portsmouth, as well as a shocking defeat and display at Doncaster.

The Barnsley match was just desperate, and in truth we were fortunate it was only 1-2. It is most memorable for the booing before the final whistle and Pearson's after-match comments about "delusions of grandeur" within the club, which didn't go down well with the fans who'd watched yet another uninspiring display from a highly paid and underachieving team.

Looking at us now, we are almost unrecognisable. Different personnel within the squad, and most importantly a different attitude. We are 12 points better off today, 12 places higher up and scoring more goals. It's not 100% perfect but we've made huge strides in the last year, we look more of a team and a unit plus we also look consistent. Our home form is much improved, our away form is starting to turn and the fans are increasingly behind the players (with the exception of the Gallagher booing).

The starting line-up and subs that day show that only Schmeichel, Konchesky, King, Dyer and Nugent are still regulars from the 16 (although St Ledger would be and Gallagher is back in contention). One crucial factor on that day, and our season right now, was Danny Drinkwater, who ran the game for Barnsley and is currently pulling the strings in our midfield.

Pearson has done well to turn us around from that point, and we are certainly heading in the right direction. The mood on here is significantly different to a year ago and as fans we are looking forward to matches at the moment.

It feels much better to be a Leicester fan today.

Amen to that.

and as fans we are looking forward to matches at the moment.

I cannot wait for the next game to come along. I've honestly not wanted to see us play so much since the premier days under O'Neil. Even in decent league one and previous championship seasons the football wasn't what it can be now.

At that point last season I fealt so depressed being a Leicester fan, it was hard going to work and taking stick off the prem armchair wankers .. Right now, it's going great and I'm going to work with a lot less of these ****** trying to give there input!

Long may it continue.. In Nigel We Trust

He really has done an incredible job, the egos have been sent to Hudddersfield (sorry removed from the club) and we now seem to have a squad of players desperate to pull on the clubs shirt and striving to prove themselves.

Take a bow Nige, to do that in a year in modern day football is a pretty efficient.

To all the doubters before :-)

Sven was a merry go round, dont get me wrong i loved the ride but it was becoming a bit of an downhill more and more...

Pearson is a quality manager and of we dont go up this seaaon we should stick with him! OP is a great write up and shows just how far we've come.

Great post Corky.

I'd also add this... Looking at some of the other managers of the other Championship teams, I feel very reassured in having Pearson at the helm. We are so much more settled than the likes of Forest, Wolves and Blackburn to name but three.

Same as Babs... I look forward to the next game because we look like we are going to win games at present. I'd say this looks like our best squad for many years.

And yet people still dislike Pearson, the guy has done wonders for this football club and long may it continue.

He had to do a lot of work, getting rid of players and turning results around, this season is the best we have looked in a long time.

He has built a quality side, and it's hard to think as you say Corky this time last year, we had poor results against those teams, two of which are now in League 1.

Onwards and upwards :)

Great post Corky.

There are so many reasons for us to be optimistic at the moment, it feels so far removed from twelve months ago it's unbelievable. You have to take your hat off to Pearson really.

We're playing some great football with a talented, young squad that's only going to get better. Bright times ahead I think.

A top post and it sums up fully why I backed Pearson from the start. He knows exactly what he's doing and I'd like to think we keep him for years.

Great post and certainly shows signs of how our fortunes have changed. That Barnsley match is the last match I attended at the KP. Hopefully I'm able to get over for one this season!

People are still fickle though and choose to get on Pearson`s back and you see the manager`s getting sacked in the championship! there is no calibre of manager out there that could come and do the same job that is currently without a job. Well done to Pearson and his backroom staff, I also agree about drinkwater maybe he is a bit of an unsung hero recently.

Feel`s good to be a Leicester Fan! Up the foxes :chant:

Totally agree with the OP, no more snide digs and comments down here, always love & support City especially at the moment.... ðŸ»ðŸ‘😊

Nigel Pearson after signing Wes and Marshall last season said something along the lines of that not only are they good players but they have good attitudes and are nice people and that is vital within a football club. I could not agree more and NP has once again been proven correct.

I cant wait till friday when we get hammered 4-1 by Middlesbrough lol The doom and gloom will soon return and people will be calling for Nigels head. Oh to be a Leicester fan.

Corky, you're such a rep whore. :P

Can you somehow transfer them to me Corky.

I still have minus rep points, -60 to be precise now.

My rebel antics :nono:

And yet there are still people who don't recognise the size of the task that Pearson had when he came back and won't acknowledge the great job that he and his team have done in turning things round. They're as stubborn as they accuse Pearson of being

I agree, can't remember us dominating so many games home and away.
