RobHawk Posted 14 January 2013 Posted 14 January 2013 Im chuffed to bits with how things are going! I think NFP has done a great job! We still need to be more consistent though! When we play well we tend to win but we haven't won ugly enough so far this season. I think we will finish at least 2nd but the next time we have one of those scrappy games where things just don't go our away but we manage to score a late winner - That's when i will truly believe Realistically that's the difference between us and Cardiff right now!! They have consistently picked up points, even when they haven't played well - Like at the KP for a start! But hopefully they are due a rough patch!
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 14 January 2013 Posted 14 January 2013 It feels much better to be a Leicester fan today. And proud to be one as well And as a foot note why oh why did Mandy let NFP go to Hull? Ok I know it was for the money but just think where we could be if he hadn't ?
Loggy98 Posted 14 January 2013 Posted 14 January 2013 A year ago today we lost 2-1 at home to Barnsley, in what I certainly consider to be the lowest point of last season. It was at the end of a quite dreadful six weeks, in which we'd had mediocre home draws against strugglers in Peterborough, Ipswich and Portsmouth, as well as a shocking defeat and display at Doncaster. The Barnsley match was just desperate, and in truth we were fortunate it was only 1-2. It is most memorable for the booing before the final whistle and Pearson's after-match comments about "delusions of grandeur" within the club, which didn't go down well with the fans who'd watched yet another uninspiring display from a highly paid and underachieving team. Looking at us now, we are almost unrecognisable. Different personnel within the squad, and most importantly a different attitude. We are 12 points better off today, 12 places higher up and scoring more goals. It's not 100% perfect but we've made huge strides in the last year, we look more of a team and a unit plus we also look consistent. Our home form is much improved, our away form is starting to turn and the fans are increasingly behind the players (with the exception of the Gallagher booing). The starting line-up and subs that day show that only Schmeichel, Konchesky, King, Dyer and Nugent are still regulars from the 16 (although St Ledger would be and Gallagher is back in contention). One crucial factor on that day, and our season right now, was Danny Drinkwater, who ran the game for Barnsley and is currently pulling the strings in our midfield. Pearson has done well to turn us around from that point, and we are certainly heading in the right direction. The mood on here is significantly different to a year ago and as fans we are looking forward to matches at the moment. It feels much better to be a Leicester fan today. Brilliant post
CosbehFox Posted 14 January 2013 Posted 14 January 2013 Completely agree. Pearson has done what he did here before. Make a squad of deadwood into a squad of sellable assets and potential. The occasionally fall-out happens but overall you have a squad ethic far better than the chumness of the Sven era. Our current form says play-offs are well on course, the fans need to unite and support us towards a massive push to 2nd place. Starting Friday....
Babylon Posted 14 January 2013 Posted 14 January 2013 Who would have thought only 4 games ago "we'd been found out", "we'd finish midtable" etc etc.
Wakeyfox Posted 14 January 2013 Posted 14 January 2013 I cannot wait for the next game to come along. I've honestly not wanted to see us play so much since the premier days under O'Neil. Even in decent league one and previous championship seasons the football wasn't what it can be now. Hope I'm not getting too carried away, but looked at the remaining fixtures and the only one were we may get nothing is Cardiff away. The rest look so winnable the way we are playing now. We seem to have got the missing link with Wood and the team as a whole don't seem to fear anyone.
Fox92 Posted 14 January 2013 Posted 14 January 2013 I have total respect for Nigel, I am one of those who believe in him and always have done. The job he did in his first two season's here was fantastic, and then we slowly watched the solid and hardworking squad he built us disappear. However, we are back on the right tracks again, as I knew we would be when he returned. Of course, there will be some games this season (as there has been), when we won't get the right performance and result, but generally so far this season, we have been consistent and put in good performances, even when we have lost games. Again, Pearson's transfer's have been spot on. I didn't disagree with any players that have left the club (although I did rate Vassell) and the player's he has brought in to the club have been great signings. The spine of the team in there to see, and our captain sums Pearson up for me - strong, hardworking, ambitious - and with the addition of Wood, our first team is looking dangerous to our oppositions. I hope Nige is here for a long time, the job he is doing is still under construction and I know, as I always have done, he is the man to take us forward... "There's only one Nigel Pearson"
Les-TA-Jon Posted 14 January 2013 Posted 14 January 2013 Great post. This thread highlights not only how great things are going right now, but also how important Pearson is and how successful he's been so far. One thing though - that Barnsley game, I think it's been 'misremembered' by a lot people. My view of the game at the time was that, yes we played poorly, but it wasn't a horrible performance. We conceded two sloppy goals and were made to look silly by Drinkwater, but we tried throughout the match to get back into it, we didn't create much of any note but the effort was there just no quality. But the majority of the fans were on the player's backs for most of the 2nd half - and the booing at the end was disgraceful. If they hadn't put the effort in then fair play but...

Jace Posted 14 January 2013 Posted 14 January 2013 Best season for a long time, even the successful seasons we have had in the past where we have gained promotion from League 1 we never dominated and smashed teams like we have done this season

We really are lucky to have Pearson, Shakespeare and Walsh back at the club.

When you look at that team you wonder how the fcuk we managed to rack up 58million worth of debt, wtf did Sven spend it on?
