Derby Away, Anti Sky Protest?

Recommended Posts

If you have Sky Sports and watch it on a regular basis and then moan about kick-off times because of Sky, you are a hypocrite end of.

Why ? Don't sky sports cover a whole range of sports ?

I subscribe to SKY, and I wouldnt cancel my subscription either. I'm not saying that its not fair, but everyone moaning that we have only had 7 home games on a Saturday, I wonder what it is like for the REAL fans of Man U, Man City, etc their games get changed all the while. Now I know it gets moved to a Sunday, but the more times LCFC are on SKY the better for me personally.

But I can see where people come from, but if it wasn't for SKY, we might have to put up with that **** Andy Townsend more, and would want that???

Why would we have to put up with him if we were at the game?

For those who live outside of Leicester - I do sympathise and see why you'd like games on TV but surely you've got to see it from our point of view.

Arguably 3pm Satdi is more important to us outside the city. Getting up to KP in time for an evening ko is a right pain sometimes, whereas 3pm I can go and see my folks, have some dinner and watch the match and be back home in time for MOTD. Or I can play my 10.30 game, get up to Leicester for 3pm and make a night of it...

To get to town for 7.30 on a Friday I'd have to leave here 5 on the nose, and I can't often do that.

Never fails to amaze me that people are against protesting 'because it won't change anything'.. Whats wrong with simply voicing your opinion?...protests aren't a guarentee of anything but at least it shows people that everything isnt rosy and fans arent happy.

There are 2 issues here, personally I wouldn't care if they covered every league game in every division every season. TV coverage is actually a good thing. What I do object to is the obscene amounts of money they've pumped into the game.

The other issue is that they've got the balance totally wrong with our televised games this season and our fans and season ticket holders especially have had a raw deal because of it. There wouldn't have been too many complaints if half of the games that have been moved had been away games. If they'd all been away games there probably wouldn't have been a word of complaint. That at least would have saved some people money as they no longer had to make the trip.

For what it is worth I recently sent a written letter to the club complaining about the electronic advertising boards, specifically the movement during the game.

So far they have not bothered to reply...... :dunno:

That's probably because you suggested what formation they should light up in!

Great attitude.

A realistic attitude.

See another case of realism being percieved as pessimism.

What WOULD work is people cancelling their Sky Sports en masse, but that ain't gonna happen. :(

Exactly, it would work, but realistically it's not going to happen like you say.

A protest wouldn't do anything, I doubt any media would be interested in it.

Cancel your sky subscription then?

Shock people will moan when it suits

Get over it

I don't have one to cancel.

But just to respond to the arguement, do you really see you armchair fans canceling subscribtions? The one's who have never been to a match in their life and are happy with Sky's schedule? It's good for them, it's what they want, why would they cancel?

Thats why realistically the idea of everyone canceling their subscriptions will never happen, besides even if every Leicester fan cancelled their subscription I don't think Sky would go out of buisness or even bat an eyelid, don't get me wrong it'd be a start but it wouldn't be a drop in the ocean as far as Sky are concerned.

for people who talk about how great the premier league: exhibit A m'lud. no prem team in the quarter finals of the champs league.

it's a joke to say the prem is the 'best league in the world'. it's not, it's two leagues rolled into one, and all that's going to happen when we get there is, ticket prices will go up, 100% guaranteed, and the thais wil trouser the $ky money to pay off the debt. if you think we will be bidding for the champ league spot in a couple of years with quality players let me be the first to pop that bubble.

i actually admire a club like blackpool, they went up and did not spend silly money on wages and players. sure they got relegated, but they're set up financially for years now (unless oysten takes the dough), that's more important than making a run for europa league and going bust.

compare and contrast with pimpey.

getting back to the subject, 7 home games at 3pm is a pishtake. surely there can be a middle ground?

ps - i don't have sky, i listen to the wireless.

Amazing games and phenomenal players were around long before Sky turned up though. European games were always on tele even back in the 80's when I was a kid and I remember seeing the likes of Van Basten and other greats regularly on tv. We always had a live Sunday game on tv along with a few midweek ones and highlights shows every week, but the majority of games were still played at 3pm on Saturdays.

I've heard a few people say that Sky have 'improved the game' but I can't see how they've done that at all. Being a footballer has always been the most popular dream for young lads and there have always been quality footballers around whether the wages and bonuses on offer were ridiculous or not. The passion of the masses has always been there for football long before there were 7 matches on tv a night. If anything, all of this money in the game has taken some of the passion away.

It seems like Sky has all the league clubs in England and Scotland under their control nowadays. Not sure what it's like in other countries.

I beg to differ, if you watch highlights of programmes from back in the day they show shittips of pitches, a quality of football far worse than we witness today, terrible production and frequently poor atmospheres and crowds! And yes I bloody loved them days! The point I primarily make is I have always loved football and the Van Basten show and other great games will always live in my memory too. The modern football era is dominated by Sky, whatever we think of Murdoch or what he represents, and it's bloody great coverage! I will not stop watching it, I enjoy it too much, however I do appreciate and respect the alternative viewpoint. But sorry guys I'm a sky bitch! :P

I think the best teams are more full of quality foreign talent, but what about the rest of the league? Will players like Lineker, Weller, Banks, Shilton, Gibson etc ever play for Leicester in the top flight again? They certainly won't for any significant period of time, and not at their prime. Even as recently as Izzet - I'm pretty sure a Top 6 club would snap him up within 3 years these days.

I also think defending has got better, passing football has got better, but individual attacking flair? I dont think there are too many of those kind of players in the league. Even the dribblers, there aren't many, there's more of them in Spain still. But there was a time when midtable teams could have these kind of players. There's a lot of quick players, very few who combine it with superb technical skill.

Everytime I watch old games from the top division the atmosphere sounds electric, and I'm very surprised you've said that. Of course the last 80s was bad for Leicester but I'm not sure it was the case for everyone else.

I find it very hard to believe that Sky has improved football. Since it's come in, standing has gone (and I'd suggest the atmosphere has gone with it) prices have gone up, the FA Cup has been reduced to a nothing competition, finishing 4th is everything, the gap between the big and medium/small clubs has got bigger, I could go on and on. And more recently, we've got things like this. And most of those things, IMO, are far more important than the top clubs having superstars.

But, like I say, unfortunately those bastards make some fine programming.

Kitchandro I'm not saying there wasn't some bloody great football becuse there sure as hell was!Standing going wasn't any of Skys doing, watched some highlights of early 80s recently and large parts were shocking in truth, yet I remember them so fondly honestly pal. There are aspects that disappoint me too like the demise of the once great FA Cup etc but that's not Skys fault either because terrestial coverage is at the forefront! Just don't hate Sky and I love the coverage just being honest!

I wasn't suggesting Sky was to blame for all those things, I apologise if that's how it came across. I just meant that I see and hear the way football used to be and in general it seemed better.

What I was saying is that I don't believe Sky has made the game better, because in general it has got worse. That does not mean to say that they single handedly made it worse, but I think they have contributed to some things.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but people are saying that sky will dub out the chanting, I bet there are a fair few derby fans that feel the same as us so if we could get them Involved then they won't surely shut off all the mic's?

I'll say it again, it makes no sense to protest at an away game if we're complaining about home games being moved. Sky will just conveniently ignore it and you won't be seen or heard at all.

Have the protest at one of the home games that have been moved, which is the whole bloody point of the protest.

Sky would have a job on their hands trying to cut it out of their coverage when it's all round the ground.

Make sense? Of course it does, that's why we'll do the opposite, as always
