iamafox Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 What are your thoughts on his appointment? Too little too late perhaps? Won't be coming to us now that's for sure.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 It's definitely too late for them in terms of this season. I'm sure they'll be going down. But he will be a good choice for next season and they should be in a decent position to challenge next season. Especially when you consider that they've not invested much this season and they have their parachute payments. That being said, nothing is guaranteed in football. There's still a chance that he could get it wrong and they could be in the bottom half next season. I'd love to see the look on some of our fans faces then if that was the case.
foxfanazer Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 Sound appointment. Too late this season but they should be able to keep most of their players for next season in the championship. They should be very strong next season but you never know
purpleronnie Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 Decent appointment but still seems odd, I suppose the owners still think theres a chance to stay up...not sure why, but McDermott surely was still the best manager to get them back to the premiership?
Fox92 Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 Thank Heaven's for that, though. Hopefully will kill all the rumours of him coming here. Doubt he will keep them up though.
Webbo Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 What is the point of sacking a manager who wasn't considered good enough to keep Reading in the premier league only to appoint a manger who wasn't considered good enough to keep Southampton in the premier league?

Exactly what I was thinking. Doesn't make sense to me really
Corky Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 What is the point of sacking a manager who wasn't considered good enough to keep Reading in the premier league only to appoint a manger who wasn't considered good enough to keep Southampton in the premier league? No doubt some of the thinking was ahead to next season and the expected promotion battle, but then again McDermott has just reached the play-offs before winning the league, so why sack him when he's probably best at what the new manager has been brought in for?
TrentFox Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 It is strange. I think it's a bad move for him. For Adkins ?? I think it's a great move for him. Smashing little club, some financial clout for next season, some good players already in place, fabulous set-up / facilities, beautiful part of the country and close proximity to London, probably a manageable level of expectations all round ....... what did I miss ??

They're a step down from Southampton. Considering his sacking was very harsh I think he could have waited for a better job than this. They'll be relegated, yes they'll have the means to go up next season but it will be another slog. They're a small club with shit crowds in another boring stadium, they hardly capture the imagination and it's a risky move if you ask me. I think it will be a difficult job, you can't count on clubs like Reading to stay successful. They can't keep bouncing back like big clubs can.

He could get a better job even if he is at reading, contracts mean very little thesedays, plus holding out for a top job that might never come isnt really worth it.
Harry - LCFC Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 Could be fun when Reading play Southampton, only two weeks until that fixture goes ahead.

I get your drift, but I don't think the stadium design will have been a point of discussion in the Adkins' household, somehow ! Attendances? Reading are 2.3k per game better than us - admittedly in the PL rather than Champs. The big clubs don't really get relegated or need to bounce back. He isn't going to get a top club, so it doesn't leave many jobs to 'hope' for. The almost inevitable relegation is a pain, but for £2m or whatever he's getting .......... oh, go on then !
Royston. Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 They wont win again this season, Adkins will be sacked and then the Leicester jobs seems like a step up. Sorted.
RowlattsFox Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 Adkins wouldn't get a better job than this, in terms of in the Premier League. He has done nothing to warrant any other Premier League club going for him. the rest of this season Is a bit of no lose situation for him, he keeps them up than he's a hero and if they go now he probably won't get blamed.
Leicesterpool Posted 28 March 2013 Posted 28 March 2013 Nigel will do a great job at Reading, even if they get relegated they'll bounce straight back up with him in charge , looks like Plan B as gone out of the window for us!
