Guest Col city fan Posted 12 May 2013 Posted 12 May 2013 I'll probably get slated for posting this but how I'm feeling I don't really give a shite. The forum again is pretty much full of 'good effort', 'if only', 'next year we'll get promoted' and all that gubbins. Quotes from the usual people abound. But actually, wasn't it Pearson himself who suggested that anything less than promotion this season would be failure? I'm pretty sure he publically set promotion as his target for the season? Not 'We'll improve this season and go up next' or 'I'll bring in a youthful side with an eye on the future'.... None of that stuff I don't think? Therefore, by his own admission, we HAVE failed this season haven't we? It will be glossed over and naturally people won't be so angry because of the super win against Forest and what came thereafter. But it's now what? 10/11 years out of the top flight and counting. And despite going through so many managers and spending so much money, actually, in the cold light of day, we are still a Championship side. You could say we were unlucky... That we didn't deserve to lose so nastily in the end. But none of this actually excuses the FACT (because that's now what it is) that we again have failed. Maybe not in the eyes of the fans, but actually by Pearson's own admission? Unless I completely misconstrued what he said at the start of the season. Personally, I think City are a big club. Much bigger than Watford are and probably ever will be. I'm disappointed we've failed because I still believe we are and should be a Premiership side. Just food for thought.....
Number 6 Posted 12 May 2013 Posted 12 May 2013 We have failed yes. I still believe the current set up is seeing us progress though and would like the owners to stick with NP.

unreachable Posted 12 May 2013 Posted 12 May 2013 I agree with most of what you say except that we are a big club. We are a Championship club and haven't earned the right yet to be a "big club".
ADK Posted 12 May 2013 Posted 12 May 2013 So are Leeds, Sheff Wed, Sheff Utd, Derby, Forest, Wolves... If we've failed it's by less of a margin than others.

I believe he would have known at the start of the season from the Thais that promotion was expected. He can have no complaints if he gets the sack.
pazzerfox Posted 12 May 2013 Posted 12 May 2013 Failed in not getting promotion but we are definitely building something good. It was always going to be difficult with the amount of changes we made but next season with the right acquisitions, i think we can challenge for automatics again.
LCFC_Nige Posted 12 May 2013 Posted 12 May 2013 Am I right in thinking that Watford didn't even sell out their end today? Looked a few empty seats on TV. That's pretty poor if it is the case What makes a big club? If it's fan base/ support we certainly are.
Webbo Posted 12 May 2013 Posted 12 May 2013 So are Leeds, Sheff Wed, Sheff Utd, Derby, Forest, Wolves... If we've failed it's by less of a margin than others. I've run out of rep points but +1
Mark_w Posted 12 May 2013 Posted 12 May 2013 10/11 years out of the top flight and counting. And despite going through so many managers and spending so much money, actually, in the cold light of day, we are still a Championship side. I don't think it's despite that. I think it's because of that. We get good managers like Pearson and then we toss them aside because we expect instant success when we've got no right to expect that.
Mack Posted 12 May 2013 Posted 12 May 2013 Now is not the time to make sweeping statements or decisions. Everyone needs a break including the fans, in a few days things will be clearer and evaluated with a more level head.
whoareyaaa Posted 12 May 2013 Posted 12 May 2013 He did say that yes but do you really want to go through another pre season of chopping and changing of players or instead give the manager some time and let add some additions and go again next season. I would rather have stability than another merry go round. Not once have we been battered this season by any team, only losing by a 1 goal advantage all season... we have played some great stuff at times but not been clinical enough at certain times, we couple of new players this can change and we can challenge for promotion.

And that is the straw we cling on to is it? We failed less miserably than [insert random team] so therefore we should be grateful.
Kitchandro Posted 12 May 2013 Posted 12 May 2013 We have failed, there's no way around admitting that. I wish there was a 'but'.

kingfox Posted 12 May 2013 Posted 12 May 2013 There's many clubs in the Championship who can be classed, as a Premier League side whether by quality, or sheer history. I'm not too gutted, we got in the play-offs, and who got us there Nigel Pearson. Pearson one League 1 trophy, and two play-off finishes to his name, is pretty good going in my opinion, despite losing out in both play-offs. Yes he has got things wrong this season, but doesn't every manager get things wrong from time to time, he has done wonders for this football club. I would rather be Leicester City, than someone like Wolves.
Happy Fox Posted 12 May 2013 Posted 12 May 2013 Lennon was watching the game live... doubt he was there for a scouting mission.
Dillonlcfc Posted 12 May 2013 Posted 12 May 2013 Of course we have failed. Though bringing in a new manager wouldn't really be possible with all the financial fairplay rules. Got to get rid of the old players and the young ones should improve.
Salieri Posted 12 May 2013 Posted 12 May 2013 I'm still waiting for Col's definitive list of (realistic) replacements...
