kylestyle06 Posted 7 July 2013 Posted 7 July 2013 What on earth have I done in a previous life to deserve this. It's quite literally the most horrendous thing that has happened to me. I can't enjoy the sun, go to the park, sit in a beer garden, breathe out my nose even the slightest, my eyes are so red and watery it's unbelievable. My nose does not stop running 24/7, it's so red from the amount of times I've wiped or blown it. I sneeze on average 100 times a day Tablets aren't working, eye drops do nothing, nasal spray comes straight back out my nose. Anyone got any idea on how to make this better ? It's actually making me struggle to do daily tasks and I really don't know where to go for help. I can't sleep at night because I'm that blocked up. It really is the devil and unless you have hayfever you'll never know how bad it actually feels!!! Help
Smudge Posted 7 July 2013 Posted 7 July 2013 You may not just be allergic to traditional hayfever issues. You need to see an allergist. They will test to for the allergy and recomend a drug that will fight it. I was a hayfever sufferer and Claritin was my saviour, Benadryl really works but it will make you sleepy.
kylestyle06 Posted 7 July 2013 Author Posted 7 July 2013 Have you been to a doctor? Yeh been to a doctor. Prescribed with the same things every year that have no effect You may not just be allergic to traditional hayfever issues. You need to see an allergist. They will test to for the allergy and recomend a drug that will fight it. I was a hayfever sufferer and Claritin was my saviour, Benadryl really works but it will make you sleepy. Out of them all, benadryl calms it down the most, but even that hasn't worked recently
The Year Of The Fox Posted 7 July 2013 Posted 7 July 2013 The Beconase does come out your nose. You have to make sure your passageway is clear before using it and inhale slowly whilst spraying it up your nose, whilst holding shut the opposite nostril It takes about 5 days to build up in your system enough for it to work though. It's easily the best thing going. I put it to you that you're not giving it enough time to work and you're inhaling it wrong- Even when I used it some still comes back out though.
Leicesterpool Posted 7 July 2013 Posted 7 July 2013 I've had bad hayfever for weeks, my eyes run and i can't stop sneezing at times.
kylestyle06 Posted 7 July 2013 Author Posted 7 July 2013 It gets better with age. Seems to get worse with age for me
Webbo Posted 7 July 2013 Posted 7 July 2013 I've heard that if you eat a little bit of local honey regularly that eventually you build up an immunity.
DennisNedry Posted 7 July 2013 Posted 7 July 2013 I've heard that if you eat a little bit of local honey regularly that eventually you build up an immunity. I've heard this also but have never tried it. My hayfever has been really bad this last few weeks, especially effecting my nose and throat. When I woke up this morning it felt like I'd been gargling acid. Sometimes I'll just go to the sink and lean forward and let my nose drain for a few minutes.
Dan Posted 7 July 2013 Posted 7 July 2013 It's absolute shite ain't it. Literally puts me off summer.
Dan Posted 7 July 2013 Posted 7 July 2013 It gets better with age. I'm unconvinced. I've had it for a good 15 years and it's just the same every year. Truly unbearable and spoils summer/nice weather.
21st Century Fox Posted 7 July 2013 Posted 7 July 2013 I haven't slept properly for the last week due to all my bedding being covered in pollen, I've had to ****ing tumble dry everything in this weather to avoid it happening again. On the the bright side, I now have abs of steel from all the sneezing I've been doing.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 7 July 2013 Posted 7 July 2013 Gets better with age? Often it affects people in their late 30s and early 40s who previously had no effects of it. It does seem however that it is rarely something that will affect you your whole life. I believe that if you get it really bad then you can have an injection that should last you the whole summer? Also the local honey method seems to work - but it does have to be local honey, not honey from your local supermarket You could also go and live by the coast, pollen levels are lower there - I'm guessing because you're not completely surrounded by murderous plants.
Zingari Posted 7 July 2013 Posted 7 July 2013 OK I've got a lot of sympathy with hay fever suffers , but can you try to keep the noise down when you sneeze , Some of you sound like fookin explosives when you start. My next door neighbour sneezed a few minutes ago and I nearly shot out of my seat . Try and think of others please.
Raw Dykes Posted 7 July 2013 Posted 7 July 2013 I feel your pain. I HATE hayfever. The worst part is the nagging itch I get behind my nose that I obviously have no way of scratching. It can be agony. I sneezed in a taxi yesterday, and the driver told me that Sainsbury's sell flavoured water with added zinc that helps hay fever sufferers. I'm guessing it's just the zinc that matters. I haven't tried it yet, but this water might be worth a go, or anything with zinc in. ZMA might be a good idea.
Zingari Posted 8 July 2013 Posted 8 July 2013 Dunno if anyone else has tried this , but I find using optrex eye drops really helps a lot .
goose2010 Posted 8 July 2013 Posted 8 July 2013 I have heyfever but fortunately the tablets work for me one a day and that seems to get me through the day. I do feel for people that just cant seem control it. Have you tried Local Honey ? Its meant to be a good cure
jgtuk Posted 8 July 2013 Posted 8 July 2013 If the tablets you use don't work, go to your chemist and ask for a different type (active ingredient). Find the one that works. All the things mentioned so far are good - try all of them, or a combination. I use Clarityn one a day, anti-histamine eyedrops and my own Honey. The Honey remedy is great providing you don't travel too far as the Pollen you encounter will be different to the the pollen you have a resistance to. Cool wet flannel over the eyes gives some relief. Good luck.
Babylon Posted 8 July 2013 Posted 8 July 2013 The one a day tablets are useless for me, I get some pretty strong benadryl on prescription and they did work great. Last year or two it's stopped working as well though. At the moment I'm taking benadryl and using a steroid nose spray three times a day which controls it a bit and means I can go outside now and again. Tried the honey thing last year and I think it did help, but when I moved on to another jar of it I started getting stomach cramps from it... god knows why.
Simmo86 Posted 13 July 2013 Posted 13 July 2013 Local honey, vaseline up the nose and apis mel tablets from Holland & Barrett work best for me. Throw in some nasal spray and benadryl too.
