Why do some people actually dislike Pearson as manager

Recommended Posts

Babs made an interesting point about NP's lack of foresight and I agree with him on that because by time he realizes a solution to a problem it is too late to solve I really truly hopes he leads us to promotion this season.

Positive:

Gets the players fit

Takes no shit

Has been willing to offload the big paid players

Usually makes ok signings

Good backroom staff

Negatives:

Also has made some poor signings this time round

Tactically naive (resorts to long ball when under pressure)

R/ship with Stringer periodically immature

Away form last season was never rectified

If the negatives can be turned round, I'm happy to see what we can do this season.. Though I'm not overly expectant.

A fair and balanced view Col

I agree

Spot on as usual!

Although I couldn't give a toss that he doesn't like Stringer. I don't either lol

Well said col but 2 points Transfers all managers get some wrong.

And Stringer who really cares he's a dick that ask's stuppid questions and winds up NP.

As that has nothing to do with wether we win or loose I don't give a toss if they never speek again.

Yes I know what your going to say Oh no not another Pearson thread but as im quite new to this forum im quite intrigued into why some people dislike NP as our manager I cant see he has done much wrong, I know some people will say his quotes from last season got under their noses but the delusions of grandeur one he was right as we as fans were deluding ourselves in thinking the team was better than it was.  I fully appreciate I might get loads of abuse here but like I say im just curious.

OK so you are new to the site. Maybe you didn't realise that we only got 12 points from our last 16 matches last season, that is 12 points from a possible 48. As few as 24 points would have got us automatic promotion. Now ask me again why so many people don't like Pearson.

And the people that dislike him liked him before that did they?

He has done a fantastic job here, I don't care what people say.

He walked into a relegated squad and turned us around. How many 'big' clubs do not achieve promotion, yet alone walk away with the league, upon relegation? Swindon, Southampton, Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday etc all failed to return to the second tier at the first attempt. Leicester, on the other hand, walked away with the league.

We then made the play offs upon our return to the Championship, Pearson made us the fifth best team in the league. He left and turned Hull around in terms of their finances.

He then returned, and had to work with the overpaid rubbish that the previous manager brought in. That is now affecting his ability to bring in players now.

I sometimes think he cannot win... This argument of 'he persists with 442'. Well, he tried 433, he tried 451. None if which worked. He is now trying 352.

He comes across as arrogant in the media, but so did Brian Clough and Alex Ferguson. Two of the greatest managers ever. Means nothing, a poor argument. And it doesn't mean he isn't a nice person, because he is a nice person.

I'm not preaching he's a God, because he isn't. He isn't the greatest manager ever. However, taking into consideration we haven't achieved anything since 2002 (apart from League One), Pearson has done a great job.

Agree with all of this and it saved me the bother of having to write it out. An instant promotion and getting us into the play-offs twice (both of which we narrowly missed out on getting to the final), some people will never be happy.

Inability to move to a plan b when it's obvious the opposition have worked out plan  a.

playing players out of position.

stubborn usage of 442.

needless substitutions in last  10 mins of game.

has no clue how to tactically treat playoff games, evidence - 2 losses

Hit the nail on the head blatantly so obvious........Pity the party members are so narrow minded and one visioned spectacled. It's like following a cult hero on here for some a man who can never do any wrong even when it is blatantly obvious something is they overlook it and turn a blind eye.

Latest rumours emanating from the club is that he is not seeing eye to eye with Terry Robinson let us hope these are true. It may puarsuade the messiah to walk again.

In order to play a "Plan A" you need to have one.

I'm sure other managers put their players in different positions at times, and it wasn't always his own undoing - injuries and suspensions also played their part.

The "stubborn" use of 4-4-2 is as big a myth as the one with the "biggest purse".

I agree with you on the substitution part, he tends to change things around when it's already too late (subs in the 80th minute or later and sometimes just two players instead of all three).

The playoffs are always a lottery and we were one shot away from the Playoff final.

Try again.

"Pearson average"  he's not that good !

Care to elaborate?

All I hear is the term "average", but little to no substance to that claim.

Judging by his winning percentage, he's way above average to many Championship managers and most previous Leicester City managers.

Have you actually read the thread where pretty much every single person has said he has faults?

And that's the only reason to dislike him, because he fvcked that one up to a certain extent? No other manager is prone to mistakes?

If you expect miracles, there's always nature or a trip to the circus.

That would be turning a blind eye, wouldn't it?

Not sure but it's interesting so far.

Surprised at the lack of / late show by the paid club stooges, except Babylon who's thrown his skewed hand in fairly early.

Probably all holed up at HQ awaiting the fax from higher up before they're allowed to properly respond.

Cliff & Lance forced to pull an all-nighter hunched over the morse code machine armed with salted snacks & no frills lager.

Good to see a few un-blinkered 'opened eyed' realists posting on this thread though.

Put 5 past Monaco tomorrow & even I'll (maybe) be on here with a glass half full...of stale piss.

This is getting somewhat unreal, but carry on.

We need automatic promotion this season got to hope NP delivers another playoff campaign will not be good enough, unless we win promotion.

His contract expires at the end of the season anyway so he knows the score deliver promotion he will get offered a new contract don't and it's cheerio.

The reasons to dislike just don't add up for me

He always plays 442: pretty sure we played 451 and 433 last season but hey why let the truth get in the way.

He doesn't communicate with the media: ok let's bring back ollie, Sven or Sousa they were great at talking to the media.

He is arrogant and pig headed: never heard anyone who has actually met him say this.

He always plays his favourites like Gallly an wellens........

He has made some terrible signings: so has Alex Ferguson and Joes Mourinio

The Little debate: yes the same little who took over when we were bottom of division one and got us to the play offs this is the same Nigel Pearson who took over when we had been relegated to division 2 and took us up as champions and backed that up with finishing in the play offs

What else you got?

Your misguided re Brian Little and seem to have conveniently forgotten that he took us up through the play offs into the premier league. You seriously saying that winning league division three is a better achievement? Division 2 no it is the equivalent of division 3. We had never played outside the top two divs ubtil hollowhead and Mandaric took over. Mr Pearson has reached the play offs yes twice but he has not made the play off final yet.

I think perhaps what he is saying is that Little took us over in a better position than Pearson took us over in, we were a championship team (albeit a poor one), whilst Pearson took over a league one team. He got us promoted first time and a penalty kick away from the playoff final whilst turning a profit.

Clearly getting promoted to the premier is the more glamorous achievement (a great one as well clearly). The two managers achievements are closer than perhaps some give credit for due to their starting positions.

I'm not saying Pearson is better than little, he has a way to go for that. Little is a childhood hero because of what he did when I was really just starting to get into football seriously. But people seem too quick to run down what Pearson did first time around.

Is it me or did we actually play 4-3-3 quite a lot last season?

No, it's not you.

We know the people who truly turn a blind eye, the ones who only see the negatives and never the positives. Those defending him do see the negatives as well as the positives, but get accused of being blinkered, it's laughable really.

One day they may learn to stop letting their emotions cloud their judgement and be a bit more rational.

It won't happen though and they'll spout the same rubbish about the next manager, that's just the kind of people they are.

Posted

Would you really, though?

Think back to when Pearson left and we had Sousa. Now I love Sousa, wanted him to take us up. We played beautiful football (probably the best I've ever seen us play) but after a few games we were bottom of the league, and were not getting the results (6-1 at Portsmouth comes to mind).

I'd like it balanced, which I personally think Pearson gives us. We can play nice stuff and get the results, but if needed, we can play ugly and get the results.

Yes I would. We lost 16 times last season and 16 the season before that and 17 the season before that. We've been stuck in this league (or the one below) for getting on for a decade straight. I'd rather lose 16 times in an entertaining fashion rather than 16 times in a pragmatic one. I have no great desire to be in the Prem if we're just going to be pragmatic, likewise I have little desire to be in the championship playing that way.

Pearson played some lovely stuff at the start of last season and then he didn't. I like the lovely stuff. Managers will come and go, as will players, I'm stuck here so I'd quite like to see whomever is passing through the club having a go at playing the beautiful game. If it works it works, if it don't it don't.

Doesn't matter what anyone says, you are blinded by the incompetent clown, gods knows why !

3 wins in 17 is not acceptable at any level of football, someone who had a clue wouldn't have stats like that, but ay lets pretend that didn't happen, lets try and disguise it. He will get the sack, because he is useless, l am not a fortune teller but l will guarantee you this will happen.

The bookies have Coco as favourite to get the sack, why do you think that is ?

Because of the immense pressure placed upon him by the fans, media and owners perhaps?? All of that makes for a pretty likely sacking should a few results go the wrong way. Incompetency doesn't come into it really!
