Rincewind Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 I know a few millionaires, it dosn't necessarily make someones quality of life higher. One of the worst traps is being normalised to a standard of living such that you don't really appreciate things. It may not make your life better but you can at least throw up in a Land Rover rather than a Reliant Robin. And being Nomalised is a trap many fall into. They have a lifestyle when in a decent job and if it goes tits up it is hard to adjust but with a few million in the bank at least you are top of the manure heap and may have longer to realise that you have to cut back on the champaigne dinners.
Ric Flair Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 Why have you got a worthless, scrounging, child-killing scumbag as your avatar. I thought the idea was that avatars reflect the poster in some way? On the back of the shirt says PHILPOTT 6, I bet he didn't realise that a few years later that would be the number of his kids he'd killed.

Interesting point that Parafox I wonder what the psychology behind our choice of avatar is . Of all the people in the world I really don't know why i eventually settled on the Peter Cook character Alan Latchley . I tried loads over the years but keep coming back to one of him . It was a very funny sketch and I suppose it's football related , but other than that it's a bit of a mystery to me maybe it's a subject for a thread of it's own

Maybes Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 Fair play to him. He's not obliged to give up his bonus. Don't understand why people get on their high horses about it all. He is likely to have worked hard to get into the fortuitous position that he is currently in and is quite within his own right to command the salary that he does.
Zingari Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 Much like your good self he was also a comic genius, incredibly witty and funny, and years ahead of his time. I guess he just got the breaks and I didn’t. eh? I just wish I had one per cent of his wit. My contributions are mostly re-hashed stuff I try to make fit into various situations I suppose there might be an element of “wannabe†in avatar choices though. And I do hope and want to come across as someone that’s genuinely interested in football, but sees the funny side of taking itself too seriously. I really hope I make a few people laugh (purposely or otherwise) because there are lots of you that cheer me up and genuinely make me feel good. I nearly always feel I’ve learned something or see something another way. And even if you’re taking the piss , I really don’t mind , because I’d still feel it wasn’t meant maliciously .

Not at all, a little OTT maybe, I was in a generous mood.

Monk Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 It is interesting to see how attitudes to pay have changed over the last few years. Hester did a superb job of saving RBS, and to be fair this guy is on a fairly low salary for his position. Especially as the job is somewhat a poison chalice. Fewer people seem to be up in arms about his appointment.
WhatsHisName Posted 2 August 2013 Author Posted 2 August 2013 Is the Derby shirt not a giveaway? There is a\ lot I can say about the sheep, and even more that I could say about florist fans, but having that pic is going too far and it is not funny
Jon the Hat Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 This poor banker is only getting £1 million a year, how can this poor man survive on such low wages? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-23546437ing The poor man, his banker friends probably laugh at him for only earning a million a year What are you going on about?
Guest MattP Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 There is a\ lot I can say about the sheep, and even more that I could say about florist fans, but having that pic is going too far and it is not funny To be fair he was devastated himself after he realised he was £350 a week worse off.
johnny the fox Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 how do they expect the fella to do a proper job on poverty pay?
Trav Le Bleu Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 Well of course he spends money on things he doesn't need, who doesn't in life? Do you go through life only spending money on necessities? Pretty much. It's called sensible living. Stuff you don't need, they're called treats. When you're constantly buying stuff you don't actually need, who do you do to treat yourself? A nice simple uncluttered life that isn't chasing the dream... bliss!
Rincewind Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 If those on low income treat themselves it is called being thick and are told you can live on £70 easy if you wanted to. So how would the bloke on a million a year cope if it went down to £3000 a year? There would be a lot more treats to cut out. What does a person that does not have treats cut out? Food or heating?

He tries to avoid being a hero but always ends up in dangerous situations like an early earth metorite falling on his head. Other characters Death who sometimes becomes depressed because nobody likes him and Lord Venturi a power mad leader with a cynical sense of humour.

So you changed it from something you actually was, to something you never have been and never will be... a wizard! Sense prevails.
jonthefox Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 My girlfriends sisters husband, who we live with is on about this a year and to be honest you wouldn't necessarily know it. When it costs nearly £3 million to buy a decent house in London (the one we're living in) and half of that wage being paid in taxes, there's isn't shit loads to blow on prostitutes, coke and yachts. He only drives a Range Rover Sport which he paid for in cash a few years back. I bet he's not got much more than a few million saved away. I get to live there for £100 a month, herro' Poor sod. Maybe he could claim something .
Rincewind Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 So you changed it from something you actually was, to something you never have been and never will be... a wizard! Sense prevails. Basically yes.
Leeds Fox Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 Basically yes. Fair enough, it just tickled me! Anyway, on topic... people will generally live to and in many cases beyond their means regardless of what their 'means' are.
Rincewind Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 If that fella with only a few million in the bank `is feeling suicidal because of money worries these people have been known to help those that are struggling to make ends meet. http://www.asra.org.uk/news-and-events/group-news/2013-group-news-archive/moneywise-launched-by-lord-willy-bach.aspx I am serious this is for anyone.
