FC United concede in the last minute of the play off semi final against Ashton to make it 1-1.

They then concede in the 2nd minute of injury time in extra time to lose 2-1.

4th season in a row they have lost in the play offs!

They've done it again! Blimey they must have one of the worst play off records ever!

Yep coalville and FC choked again, all highly predictable, I predicted AFC flyde to go up, they won tonight 3-1, I always back the team with the money especially at this level.

You have to wonder what sort of mental scars are left after constantly missing out on promotion.

At least FC have their own ground next season maybe that will give them a boost, or maybe they are destined never to progress.

Would have been amazing for FCUM to have their first season in the new ground just 1 league below the conference. They could have made a serious push for promotion.

Sorry to hear about Coalville's demise, as I have a soft spot for them. In 2004-05, I decided to try to follow the FA Cup all the way from the Extra-Preliminary Round, following whoever won each round - starting at Coalville for their first ever appearance in the competition. I was expecting to end up following lots of different  teams, each getting through 1 or 2 rounds, but Coalville went through 6 rounds, all the way from the Extra-Preliminary Round to the 1st Round Proper, eventually losing 0-1 to a Roger Johnson header at Wycombe! I didn't have the heart to continue with Wycombe after that...

Good to see that Folkestone Invicta have made the Ryman South play-off final, beating Hastings 3-2 with a deflected goal near the end of extra time. I grew up watching their predecessors, Folkestone Town, who went bust in 1991, when Invicta were still a Sunday League team. Invicta play at the old Town ground (Cheriton Road) and their longstanding manager, Neil Cugley (ex-Maidstone, too, TPH) is a former Folkestone Town legend of the 1980s, under the late, great Alf Bentley (the real one!).

Apart from getting promoted, what I really hope is that Invicta get a few quid out of Hull City. Their teenage wonderkid striker Johan Ter Horst (who went to my old school) has been snapped up for Steve Bruce's development squad from the summer. Unclear whether Invicta will get any cash....come on, Hull, £50k would be nothing to you, but megabucks to Invicta!

See Kettering have got through to the play off final in the southern league central against Slough, considering going but does anybody know how to get to Latimer Park? I've heard it's miles out of Kettering?

Cambridge vs Gateshead in the play off final! I reckon it'll be a very tight game. I wouldn't mind either of them winning it :)

Cambridge have been poor of late and Gateshead the form team. However a lot of the injured players came back for Cambridge yesterday. It will be tight, but hope Cambridge can do the Wembley double this season.

Come on Cambridge, would make my season.

After the FA Trophy final last month another ( expensive) trip to Wembley £41 cheapest seat with booking fee and £19.50 for u16s.which quite frankly is a disgrace.

Gateshead or Cambridge?

Gary Mills or Adam Smith?

Who to root for?

Cambridge for me and a great experience for Smith, if he stays with us and is called upon we'll know he has had a big match under his belt already.

Good point, Cambridge it is.

I still don't get it why only two teams can come up to League Two from the Conference.

Bit harsh on the team that finishes second in the Conference not being able to enjoy automatic promotion, really (Cambridge this season).

Historically, I'd probably go for Cambridge. They also have a better average home attendance that Gateshead.

Other than that, if Gateshead are coming up, they'll surely rejoice the higher chance of playing either Newcastle or Sunderland in a cup competition.

In essence, I can't really make my mind up. Both teams would deserve to be in the Football League.

Weren't Gateshead voted out of the FL in favour of Peterborough despite not finishing bottom. This was back in the 60s when clubs voted on who to relegate?

Because if the league were to increase the number of teams promoted they would need the blessing from the majority of League Two clubs, but obviously they aren't going to want increase the risk of relegation.

The play offs are fundamentally unfair but they make a lot of money and keep leagues alive longer.
