MikeyT Posted 15 August 2013 Author Posted 15 August 2013 Only actually been to Cov and Birmingham on that list. I don't plan on visiting any of the other places mentioned now, for obvious reasons.
Bryn Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 I know there isn't much in Coventry, but they took a lot of hammering for the Country during the war. I'd probably say, upon visiting, Hull and Middlesbrough should be up there. Although the Humber Bridge and the Transporter Bridge are great sights/attractions. Your point is undermined by the fact that Hull was % wise the most bombed city in the country during WW2.
Ross-Kemp Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Luton and scunthorpe are pretty rancid places. Hull, Kettering and Coventry aren't far behind.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 I know there isn't much in Coventry, but they took a lot of hammering for the Country during the war. They should have lots of nice new buildings then!
Trav Le Bleu Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Yep, right near a pub called The White House. I laughed when she said it before realising it was a serious comment, the whole place was unreal, near the train station you may as well be in Kabul, uncomfortable as a young white male on your own to say the least. Vowed never to set foot in the town again and still haven't since. How about Kabul?
ScouseFox Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 I have owned a house in Widnes, Cheshire previously. Now that place is a fvcking hovel Bloody hell, what did you do to deserve ending up there?
Fox92 Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Your point is undermined by the fact that Hull was % wise the most bombed city in the country during WW2. I thought it was London? Then the most bombed City after London was Liverpool?
Bryn Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 I thought it was London? Then the most bombed City after London was Liverpool? As a percentage of the city that is. "Hull was the most severely damaged British city during the Second World War, with 86,715 buildings damaged and 95 percent of houses damaged or destroyed" It was targeted as a major port, as well as being a dumping ground for unused bombs for German bomber pilots who were unable to find their designated target before having to return to the continent. It's another example of Hull's status as a city being overlooked, to the detriment of its residents. No-one is ever taught about what the city gave during the war.
MooseBreath Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 95%? Wish the Germans had finished it off to be fair.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 I took a drive from Marlow (beaufiful) through the countryside to High Wycombe last year just to have a look, as I'd never been there. You're right, it is pretty bland. Although on the bright side Hellfire Caves are just up the road which I thought were amazing Luton and Slough are good shouts Marlow is beautiful. Lived at a small village a mile away, over the bridge, The back garden was next to the grounds of Bisham Abbey (now a sports centre)
separator Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 No mention of Leicester yet? As much as I like the place and live here it has its fair share of crap 60's architecture and run down areas. Frog Island, Lee Circle areas around the centre springs to mind.

Frog Island, Lee Circle areas around the centre springs to mind. Yeah but the inhabitants make up for all that.

pSinatra Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Camborne and Redruth should be included Been Cambourne & Redruth several times. Got a friend who's a GP in Cambourne. It's thoroughly depressing & indicates the levels of poverty in certain parts of Cornwall.....away from the usual tourist areas.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Bloody hell, what did you do to deserve ending up there? My ex-fiancé lived up there and I ended up buying a house up there to be with her but thankfully it didn't work out
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Weatherfield !! it's a fookin war zoneSandford is pretty bad also
Fox in the North Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 As bad as the centre is around clock tower etc and frog island it's nothing on Hull, Luton, Boro, Warrington, Doncaster etc As a student in hull I can actually say the city centre is nice. The surrounding areas are obviously crap, but it's no worse than leicester. I think Swansea can be pretty crap too. What about Redcar?
Guest MattP Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Fair enough. Was a dump last time I was there but that was agea ago. I got twatted by a big fat Hull KR fan. Might have had an effect.
