Ross 'LCFC' Turner Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 Adam Le Zondre is on the list. I'll never forget that moment ....
fleckneymike Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 And by "selection" we mean 2. One of which was before I was born. He was a good manage no doubt about that, but anything he did that has serious merit or wasn't bought was done before Howard Wilkinson won the league. Football has passed him by, you may as well use George Grahams CV's and get them back, success around the same time and a lot cheaper. Small point of order. 3 'European' trophies, UEFA, Super and Cup Winners. Plus 6 league titles.
Dickov22 Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 Karma. 'Decent guy'???? So decent that when he was Manager of OUR national team he was caught having dinner with then Chelsea Chief Exec Kenyon discussing a move as Manager. How did the FA punish him? They gave him a new improved contract! Ruined England's best chance post 1966 of winning anything, awful at Mexico, laughable at Notts County causing chaos financially by telling the players 'you now play for one of the richest clubs in the world' .... Cue all first teamers banging on the Manager's door demanding new contracts. Don't get me started on what he's done to us. Bigger disaster than Peter Taylor. Cannot stand him

Cannot stand him Not even remotely close to Taylor. Taylor takes a top 10 Premiership side who are about to play in Europe and leaves us crippled and facing relegation.

Taylor takes a top 10 Premiership side who are about to play in Europe and leaves us crippled and facing relegation. Not by any means saying Taylor was anything short of disastrous. Sven's spending spree and hefty contracts will affect us for years and years to come
fleckneymike Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 Not by any means saying Taylor was anything short of disastrous. Sven's spending spree and hefty contracts will affect us for years and years to come Taylor created a decade of decline (interspersed by one terminal breath under Adams).
Dickov22 Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 Taylor created a decade of decline (interspersed by one terminal breath under Adams). And Sven wasted the best chance we've had since that decade to get back to the Premier league. Won't have another chance like that for years. Pearson's job almost impossible thanks to Sven
Guest MattP Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 Small point of order. 3 'European' trophies, UEFA, Super and Cup Winners. Plus 6 league titles. Super Cup, a glamorous friendly basically. 6 league titles, 5 of which which were before 1991, with by far the biggest club and budget in the two mighty leagues of Sweden and Portugal. Shall we stick the 'FA Summer tournament 1994' where we beat Iceland and Japan in as an International trophy as well? Anyone know what Herb Chapman is doing these days? Get him in.
hackneyfox Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 Nobody comes close to screwing our club over like Taylor did.

Pearson's job almost impossible thanks to Sven Pearson's job was and is a piece of piss. Billionaire owners, decent squad, revamped off field facilities, long term commitment to Premier League football and a top half team (inherited and created). Last season was the best chance we've ever had.
Guest MattP Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 Nobody comes close to screwing our club over like Taylor did. I dunno, whilst Taylor spunked 30 odd million up the wall at least he left a squad still capable of getting out the second tier.

Billionaire owners isn't much use when you can't spend it.
hackneyfox Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 I dunno, whilst Taylor spunked 30 odd million up the wall at least he left a squad still capable of getting out the second tier. From a squad that had managed 4 top 10 finishes. Taylor is by far our worst ever manager for managing to destroy that squad. Frank McLintock was worse than Sven.

James. Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 It really is astonishing that people will continue to back Sven and criticise Pearson. It's not even worth arguing over I just find the mentality that results in reaching that sort of conclusion totally bizarre.

Shall we stick the 'FA Summer tournament 1994' where we beat Iceland and Japan in as an International trophy as well? Anyone know what Herb Chapman is doing these days? Get him in. Revisionist history at its finest. Should I discount Pearson's league 2 title because he had the biggest budget in that division? Lazio have won 13 major honours in their history, 7 of them under Sven. He won a UEFA cup with a side from the 'mighty' Swedish league and was runner up in the UEFA cup and European cup with a side from the 'mighty' Portuguese league. He may not have got anywhere near those heights here but to disregard the achievements one of the finest coaches in European history to support Nigel ****ing Pearson is churlish in the extreme.

We played some decent football under Sven. We were dogshit under McLintock, look at the points gained and goals scored, I remember the kop gomg wild because we'd won a corner. Some of the worst football ever seen and it went on all season not just 17 games.

It's not even worth arguing over I just find the mentality that results in reaching that sort of conclusion totally bizarre. No one is backing Sven and knocking Pearson. They've both failed to gain promotion. One spent a lot of money not gaining promotion and one spent less (but still quite a lot) not gaining promotion. One was paid £2m a season and the other £1m and neither are proving value for money.

It's your opinion that it's not worth arguing over, Pearson has yet to prove anything. Beaten to it.
