tcrofts Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 Couldn't see this posted anywhere else. Apologies if it is. Strike up the violins http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/england/10260721/Sven-Goran-Eriksson-I-hate-only-one-person-on-earth-the-man-who-cost-me-10-million.html
Fox92 Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 Might be a nice guy but he was no good here. I'd rather us have Nigel in charge.
cc_star Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 Genuinely nice guy who was sacked far too soon. Hahaha But a bit early in the morning to be cracking them out like that. The man who never once climbed out of midtable mediocrity despite blowing a decades worth of money on a team of misfits, wholly unsuited to the division who cost so much it's hindering us long, long, long after he's gone. Sacked too soon, bah! Should never have been within a thousand miles of us in the first place. Still, he gives a nice interview though, eh?
Libertine Dream Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 “About finances, Mr Eriksson is not especially knowledgeable nor particularly interested" Sounds about right
KFS Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 Now you know how it feels you bad breathed evil professor.
Mack Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 In reply to some of the comments here. 1) Sven didn't "Blow" anything. He gave a list of wanted players to the club and Neville signed some, Sven did not do the deals. 2) "Middle table mediocrity" If that = being 4 points off the play offs and being just a little way into the season then I think that's harsh. Unless you are also going to put last season's capitulation into the category of a disaster. In my opinion the owners started an expensive project with Sven as the coach, and whatever has happened since and whoever replaced him, it was a mistake to pull the plug after investing so much into it. They should have seen it through to it's conclusion.

Ric Flair Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 What a man, I absolutely love him. He was decent for us.
James. Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 My humblebrag-o-meter has just gone absolutely apeshit after reading that article.
Ric Flair Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 Sven would have Knockaert ripping this league a new arsehole

Scoobyrob Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 Can't see why someone wouldn't like Sven as a bloke and there was a point when we were on a run, it seemed like he was going to succeed but then other teams worked us out and the fairytail ended. All the best Sven.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 Genuinely nice guy who was sacked far too soon. My dads a nice guy, but you'd not want him anywhere near our club.
Ric Flair Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 Rich mans Peter Taylor. In what way? Peter Taylor is about as likeable as a pair of kegs smeared with marmite.

They should have seen it through to it's conclusion. But he's the manager, it's his responsibility. If he didn't have any more input than just giving Neville a list, then he's a bigger idiot than I originally thought. How come under Nigel, we went for Billy Sharp but the player wanted to much wages so Nigel pulled out the deal? Anyway, regardless, I found it strange how Sven had about 7 central midfielders here, and no wingers. I don't care if he's a 'nice bloke'. That doesn't get you forward in football. Are Brian Clough and Alex Ferguson remembered as being 'nice'? No. But they are two of the greatest managers ever.
LcFc_Smiv Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 talking complete bollocks again. i think you forget that when sven arrived he took us out of relegation form and almost in the playoffs bar 4 points. i bet you were not complaining when he was doing that . Any manager worth his money should have been able to get us to climb the league with that squad. We were never relegation fodder with a team like that. Fair play he took us up the league, we had a team who was performing, then he makes additions in January and that's about as far as it went for that season, we were never going to make the play offs. We don't even need to discuss his summer signings, people are too quick too defend him. When will fans admit they were sold on a big money dream, a smile and nice interviews from a manager who simply did not cut it at this level.
Merging Cultures Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 "About finances, Mr Eriksson is not especially knowledgeable nor particularly interested, except to the extent that he wants to secure the financial future for his family and for himself, expecting his money to be invested soundly and rationally.†Sounds like his time at Leicester.

Tielemans63 Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 I think he came in and gave us the boost we needed when it looked like we might go down. Everyone was happy we had a big name and he lived off that for that first half a season and did well for us. However, even towards the end of that season I think he'd lost that aura as we missed out on the playoffs with some awful results towards the end of that season. By the time he was shown the door I think it had become clear that the emperor had no clothes. Looking at his recent managerial record - that seems to be pretty much the pattern for Sven, a whirlwind introduction before things fall apart pretty rapidly. I still think though that if he'd had Tord Grip as his number 2 at LCFC then things may have been quite different. From reading about his time with England I think it was TG who was bad cop to SGE's good cop. Sven decided tactics but it was Grip who implemented them and worked closely with players. From what I've heard about Derek Fazakerly he didn't have the same gravitas with the exception of Man City where I think Fazackerly had been for a while.
Guest MattP Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 In terms of value for money I think only Peter Taylor has been worse for the club. Like someone said, a myth of a manager. The only man in history to manage to fcuk up the Mexico job. Doesn't surprise me the only thing that can get really upset about is money. Our wage bill hit 27million under him and he couldn't make the playoffs. I don't think thr average man in the street could pull that off.
