Merging Cultures Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 One of my friends had to hide for four hours with her 2 year old son. The friend she was meeting was killed in front of her. This could have been any of my friends. My wife likes to go to that mall, so it could have been us. Scary.
breadandcheese Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 Wow, that's frightening. The news has been horrific and when you hear stories like your friend's, it's chilling. It's still not over yet either so I dread to think what the final death toll will be once the Kenyan security forces gain control of the shopping mall. Having said that, death tolls I guess become irrelevant, when you're so directly affected by it, as your friend is. My condolences and thoughts to your friend and anyone affected by this.
bovril Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 Thoughts with your friend and her son, I can't begin to imagine what it must be like to go through this.
Jordan Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 That's awful, BB--my condolences go out to your friends. I've been following the siege and I almost cannot believe it is still going on. At least reports are that there are no civilians in the mall anymore but I hope at the least there have been no further civilians killed since the authorities moved in on Shabab.
cambridgefox Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 Been watching this loads on Sky News.Very sad BB.
Merging Cultures Posted 24 September 2013 Author Posted 24 September 2013 Thanks everyone. Praying for safety as we live and work in Africa.
StanSP Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 Hope everyone else you know is okay, BaltimoreBlue. As I mentioned in another thread, I find it despicable that adults were clambering and climbing on children to escape. Just beyond belief and imagination that some people would do that. Children are helpless as it is, let alone being crushed somewhat by an adult. Amidst panic you'd want to flee, but it shouldn't come to a point where you're trampling on children to do so. They should be saved first.
Haydos Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 Pretty chilling reading the descriptions of people inside. Another one of those things where I can't even begin to imagine what it's like as it seems so far from reality. Hope you're doing okay mate.
Merging Cultures Posted 24 September 2013 Author Posted 24 September 2013 I am doing well, but my wife is a bit freaked out. Apparently, daytime break ins are on the rise. They are targeting expats. Finally our alarm system got installed yesterday. Also our dog arrived. So hopefully that helps. Although, he is a bit pathetic.

Clearly the dog is trying to lure any intruders into a false sense of security before it garottes them with what they previously thought was a discarded bead necklace. Sad news for you BB, hope things calm down there soon.
Guest MattP Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 Awful. Condolences. Everything I've read about this has been distressing, there are some real savages out there.

Finally our alarm system got installed yesterday. Also our dog arrived. So hopefully that helps. Although, he is a bit pathetic. That is horrific BB, I think I'd be considering sending my wife and family to somewhere safe for a while. Our alarm went off the other night, Mrs Smudge jumps out of bed and turns it off. I thought, now what do we do? if someone's in the house and the police are 10 minutes away we could be brown bread way before then. That's when the right to bear arms has some relevance. I hope you have a way of defending yourselves.
z-layrex Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 Wherever there is trouble, they are there.

z-layrex Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 I just found your statement odd. Well, sorry. I didn't mean it to be.
purpleronnie Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 It's ok, I'm odd too. Hey lets get together so we even things out.
Rincewind Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 Jon Coster the founder of Citizens Eye was saying today that he has contacts there that are keen to set up a similar community news agency project there. One of them has a girlfriend who was in the Mall at the time of the shootings. She ran out and as she did two people were shot alongside her. She is now suffering stress related to it. The contact apologised for not getting on the spot photos.
Grewks Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 Cmon guys...no racist jokes please. Once you've heard Juan you've heard Jamal.
