Hollism Posted 29 November 2013 Posted 29 November 2013 A helicopter has crashed into a busy pub in Glasgow city centre. Several are reporting that it's a police helicopter. Horrible, horrible news. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-25163045
Saxondale Posted 29 November 2013 Posted 29 November 2013 That's mental. Sky News et al are covering it right now.
Unabomber Posted 29 November 2013 Posted 29 November 2013 Wow this looks bad. It's like me on gta but the cops are the ones crashing the helicopter.
Guest Bilo Posted 29 November 2013 Posted 29 November 2013 Go for it. I'm waiting till the dust settles. Could be very unfunny very quickly.
cambridgefox Posted 30 November 2013 Posted 30 November 2013 So lucky it didn't explode, bad as it is, it sounds like everyone inside has been very lucky.i assume the helecopter crew were not so lucky.

Guesty Posted 30 November 2013 Posted 30 November 2013 Maybe the helicopter ran out of fuel and crashed, that might explain the lack of fire/explosion. I doubt it, I imagine any helicopter pilot is told if you're running dangerously low on fuel then land, or at the very least don't fly over populated areas. Unless this pilot has made a massive mistake. More than likely he's hit something in the dark (like electricity wires, etc) and just been very lucky that there hasn't been an explosion; or it's a malfunction.

Yeah maybe, I don't have a clue when it comes to this kind of thing to be fair.

Helicopters are inherently unstable and, unfortunately, do crash now and then. There are several different ways in which a helicopter can enter an unrecoverable flying situation.
Libertine Dream Posted 30 November 2013 Posted 30 November 2013 I've not seen any of the coverage so I don't know the latest but the lack of fire suggests they were either incredibly lucky, out of fuel or could they have landed on the roof for whatever reason and the roof has caved in? The lack of fire is puzzling as none of those three seem very plausible
deejdeej Posted 30 November 2013 Posted 30 November 2013 A bloke on the bbc coverage reckons when the pilot knows they will have to crash land then the fuel supply has to be cut off. Made it sound like a sort of controlled crash landing without realising it was a roof and would have been fine until the roof collapsed and the rotors were still spinning.. that was said by a former pilot.

wattolcfc Posted 30 November 2013 Posted 30 November 2013 I drank in there before an old firm game a few years back, got family up there, hope to god that none if them were in there.
StanSP Posted 30 November 2013 Posted 30 November 2013 I must say that from my point of view, it looks very unlikely there will be no fatalities. 'Falling like a stone out of the sky' suggests to me it was falling quite quickly and obviously helicopters aren't the lightest of things. Hope no-one has died though.
Jimothy Posted 30 November 2013 Posted 30 November 2013 Looks terrible. Will be amazed if there's not at least sone fatalities. How calm was that fireman with those reporters though! I'd have lamped one if them if they carried on asking incredibly retarded questions where he's already said he couldn't or wouldn't give an answer. You had the bbc guy ask about numbers in the pub etc, then as soon as he finishes some woman asks how many fatalities! If he won't say or doesn't know how many are in the pub he's not gonna tell you or doesn't know how many deaths. ****ing idiots.
RobHawk Posted 30 November 2013 Posted 30 November 2013 3 confirmed dead and some still trapped in the building. I'd imagine the 3 who have died are the passengers from the helicopter. Horrible stuff, hope there's no more casualties.
Libertine Dream Posted 30 November 2013 Posted 30 November 2013 Apparentley it dropped like a stone so it wasnt a controlled landing. And looking at the pictures, it suggest that the rotor blades weren't turning on impact to me so maybe a problem with the cyclic or yaw controls or something like that
RobHawk Posted 30 November 2013 Posted 30 November 2013 8 now confirmed dead. Hopefully it stops there and there are no more!
