Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson says he is not worried that his contract runs out in the summer.

Pearson, who rejoined as boss for a second spell in November 2011, has led City to the top of the Championship.

He told BBC Radio Leicester: "It [a new contract] is not something I think about. If we do alright, things take care of themselves.

"Me and the players are focused on trying to achieve the goal we set - and that is to try and get promoted."

Pearson's future became a constant topic of discussion in the second half of last term, when the pre-season Championship favourites started to slip out of the automatic promotion places.

An impressive end-of-season run saw the Foxes recover to reach the play-offs, but they were beaten by Watford in a thrilling two-legged semi-final tie.

This campaign has seen Pearson's side win 12 of their 18 games but there has been no talk of a new contract.

"It only becomes an issue because people want to know about it," he said.

Kasper Schmeichel (pictured), Sean St Ledger, Marcin Wasilewski, Wes Morgan, Paul Konchesky, Zac Whitbread, Neil Danns, Martyn Waghorn, Gary Taylor-Fletcher, Lloyd Dyer and David Nugent are all out of contract in the summer.

"The most important thing for me, whether you have a contract that lasts three years or three months, is that in the type of job I do there are no guarantees it will go the distance anyway.

"You have to be pretty pragmatic about it and get on with the job in hand.

"I am really enjoying myself here. I have a job to do, I am committed to the job and I enjoy the job and the challenge.

"I don't need any reassurance of my own situation."

Pearson and 11 of his players - including goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and skipper Wes Morgan - are out of contract at the end of the season.

He hopes the prospect of earning a new deal will motivate them.

"I think the incentive is there for all of us to do well for ourselves and the club," he added.

He'll be in demand, especially in this division.

Hopefully we'll all be fine, promoted and can get him signed up then.

3 hopes of him getting a new contract, Bob, Maurice and No!

Right, so getting promoted means the owners won't want him, despite not sacking him in the last two summers after not getting promoted?

Clearly he doesn't want to talk about it and I can't blame the man, see where we place at the end of the season and then...we can talk about contracts. For the meantime, were all singing from the same hymn sheet.

I'd have thought that would depend on how much of a rebuilding job the owners think will be needed.

If they believe that the majority of the team should be given a go in the premier then they may keep NFP.

If they believe that a major revamp of the side is needed, and they're happy to pay for it, they may decide to let a higher profile manager do the job.

I really hope our owners aren't going to be ones deciding if we need a big re building job or not.

For a start off they have hardly been to any games this season.

It won't cost the owners in the summer,I'm a Pearson fan but can see a Nigel Adkins scenario when we get promoted?though I hope I'm wrong?

Waghorn a new contract?

Why?

He's only 23. Could still click for him. Would rather we gave him a new contract than just write off his £3 million transfer fee.

Apart from Waghorn I thought exactly the same to who should get a new contract.

I'd be disappointed if they let him go after promotion, he deserves the chance in the Premier League.

We're never gonna recoup £3m (wasn't it lower but rising to that anyway?) fee. Might as well get rid now and just move on.

It won't.

Just not good enough unfortunately, form is temporary, class is permanent and we spunked three million on a good run of form.

We aren't getting any money for him anyway so just cut our losses.

Whenever he has started upfront in a 4-4-2 (the loan season and for a spell last year) he has been one of our better players. He's doing a good job at Millwall by all accounts. And he's still only 23.

We absolutely should be offering him a new contract. Although given the way we've misused him, failed to give him opportunities in his preferred position and generally shat on a promising young player, he'd have to be stupid to sign one.

I hope he's not stupid.
