Re: Ian Paisley...

Whilst I didn't agree with his views on unionism, he was a great ambassador for people on both sides of the community working in the agricultural sector back home through his seat at EU. This largely gets ignored in the national press which is a shame.

He was the guest speaker as a dinner I attended years ago needless to say he was brilliant (except for the obligatory bible quotes of course!) and really captivated the audience.

Ian Paisley dies....

I hear that when he turned up at the Golden Gates, St. Peter bellowed "Heaven says 'No! No! Never! No!".

In all seriousness, an extraordinary transformation in his latter years, which led to him playing an important role in the advent of power-sharing, which he himself had opposed for so long.

I wonder whether he went through some sort of personal transformation / mellowing, or if it was just that he felt his unionist supporters wouldn't have stomached such a deal before, but were now ready to tolerate it? Must have been an extraordinarily difficult compromise for all concerned....

Paisley under ground....

Did we miss a trick on this one when Lou Reed died? Don't tell me nobody posted "Velvet underground"....  :o

lol

I did like Ian mind, he seemed one of the few politicians who actually intended to stand up to those murdering barstewards from across the water and meant it. As Alf said as well, he played an important part in the peace process in the latter years.
