Manwell Pablo Posted 10 February 2014 Posted 10 February 2014 Its potentially Scotland's most successful sport. Murray.
Manwell Pablo Posted 10 February 2014 Posted 10 February 2014 - You - Me Team sport then? Possibly Are they all Scottish though?
Jordan Posted 10 February 2014 Author Posted 10 February 2014 Sweden takes down GB. Big statement by Edin today, going 2-0 when some of the medal favorites didn't look comfortable out there. We had a surprise tonight with Switzerland's Sven Michel holding on to defeat Canada after Jacobs gave him a gift of a steal of three after being heavy on a draw. Jacobs and his rink seemed to struggle with draw weight today and got away with a lackluster effort against a poor German team. Michel has a capable rink that has done OK in international and tour events over the past few seasons and they're no slouches. Norway and the pants smacked USA tonight. I hate to say it, but I think John Shuster and his team will really struggle in Sochi. Possibly Are they all Scottish though? Of course... This is curling we are talking about, after all!(England and Wales actually have representation in the WCF and play in the lower divisions of the World and European Championships. However, the WCF/IOC only use Scotland's Worlds performances for GB's Olympics qualification points, and Team GB will pretty much always just select the top team in Scotland).
Manwell Pablo Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 I suppose they have to be good at something.
ScouseFox Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 CURLING UPDATE Our men beat Germany with the last stone of the last end. Fu ck you Germany. And our women scored 7 in one end against the US hahaha. Sorry Jordan. Currently 9-1 up after 4 ends. Scenes.
Jordan Posted 11 February 2014 Author Posted 11 February 2014 It's not really in the "spirit of curling" to trash players, and I know USA got themselves in lots of trouble that end, but seriously, how the **** did Brown let Muirhead hang a 7-ender? Brown didn't really have any easy shots there, but if that was the decision she made on her final stone, she deserved every bit of what she got. Brown and McCormick are playing like crap so far, there's no sugar-coating it. It is a terrible feeling to be on a slump like this when you're a skip but I hope Brown can rely on her experience to regain some confidence. I would recommend that she have a few drinks tonight but I'm not so sure how well that would fly with the US Olympic Committee. This could very well be the kind of moment that boosts Muirhead to a huge run. When Eve is firing, she has more shots in her than any other skip in the field besides Jones.
Haydos Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 Here we go. Hopefully he'll pull out something ridiculous!
ScouseFox Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 Not even a medal!! That Swiss trick (not gonna try and spell his name) was fúcking mindblowing though. As for that 15 year old Japanese kid, jeeeez.

Haydos Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 This is what I don't get....Me and my flatmate were watching some sort of snowboard event at about 6am the other morning after a night out. It was a downhill-type course that began with a kicker/box/rail thing at the top followed by 3 jumps getting progressively bigger. Anyone know what this was? Anyway, it was the women's event we were watching and it was underwhelming to say the least when you compare it to some of the skiiing events and the halfpipe yesterday. They would graze the rail at the start, the first jump most of the time was a 180 (literally about the minimum you can do on a snowboard), the second jump was maybe a 360 grab and the third was a 540 of some sort. I've got mates that I've seen doing better stuff than this on jumps. It wasn't timed, it was scored and it was a big confusing. Any ideas?
Jordan Posted 12 February 2014 Author Posted 12 February 2014 I'm sorry, but Muirhead completely misplayed her last two rocks in the 10th. I don't think there was any way she could have made the triple and saved the shooter--she should have just drawn in for 2 and played to steal in an extra end. USA men get their first win last night, though . Despite a tough start, Shuster came through with by far his best performance. CAN women hold on to beat USA in women's hockey but our girls will get 'em when it really counts. Gonna watch a few ends of curling before switching to the men's hockey tournament. SWE-CZE is on tape delay, that should be a solid matchup. This is what I don't get....Me and my flatmate were watching some sort of snowboard event at about 6am the other morning after a night out. It's scored sort of like halfpipe, but you're going through a "freestyle" course.
Haydos Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 "Slopestyle." It's scored sort of like halfpipe, but you're going through a "freestyle" course. Have you seen any of it? It looked fvcking dire compared to some of the events.
Webbo Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 Have you seen any of it? It looked fvcking dire compared to some of the events. The women's event was very tame compared to the men's but that's the same in any sport.
Jordan Posted 12 February 2014 Author Posted 12 February 2014 Have you seen any of it? It looked fvcking dire compared to some of the events. Well, since USA won both gold medals, I suppose I like it The women's event was very tame compared to the men's but that's the same in any sport. Yeah, Sage Kostenburg absolutely slayed the course. Some of the men's runs were wild, and I usually don't care much for snowboarding.

I'll try and watch the mens. It wasn't just tame though, like I said they were pulling out 180's without a grab. You can't do any less than that. I'm sure I've seen women pull out some mad shit on the halfpipe so why was this so shit? Maybe it is just women
ScouseFox Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 Pretty sure the two man luge is pushing all of Russia's no-gay boundaries.
Bert Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 Does Muirhead ever fackin smile? One of the most miserable people I've ever seen!
Super_horns Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 Do Netherlands just spend all their funding for Winter sports on Speed skating I wonder?
Jordan Posted 12 February 2014 Author Posted 12 February 2014 Does Muirhead ever fackin smile? One of the most miserable people I've ever seen! She does lots of smiling when she wins titles, of course! On the ice, she can be quite irritable and does plenty of seething, but by most accounts she's a nice gal.
StanSP Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 Does Muirhead ever fackin smile? One of the most miserable people I've ever seen! She's Scottish. She's been brought up to 'play' curling. You can't smile about that!
Jordan Posted 12 February 2014 Author Posted 12 February 2014 She's Scottish. She's been brought up to 'play' curling. You can't smile about that!Considering that Muirhead chose a far less lucrative curling career over full athletic scholarships at top Division I universities in the US to play golf and a potential pro career in that sport, I think she's quite happy with her life choices... Especially being the world champion and all that. Anyway, even though curling is a friendly sport, why the **** does Muirhead have to smile on the ice? Can't she just be an athlete and be serious about her sport? Muirhead has to do enough smiling for the cameras outside of her games anyway. David Murdoch and his team aren't exactly the most cheerful, charismatic bunch on the ice, but I don't see Bert or anyone criticizing Murdoch for that (nor would any of Murdoch's peers, who consider him to be a classy guy). Eve Muirhead is playing for GB in the Olympics; she's not Miss UK in a beauty pageant.
