StanSP Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 Considering that Muirhead chose a far less lucrative curling career over full athletic scholarships at top Division I universities in the US to play golf and a potential pro career in that sport, I think she's quite happy with her life choices... Especially being the world champion and all that. Anyway, even though curling is a friendly sport, why the **** does Muirhead have to smile on the ice? Can't she just be an athlete and be serious about her sport? Muirhead has to do enough smiling for the cameras outside of her games anyway. David Murdoch and his team aren't exactly the most cheerful, charismatic bunch on the ice, but I don't see Bert or anyone criticizing Murdoch for that (nor would any of Murdoch's peers, who consider him to be a classy guy). Eve Muirhead is playing for GB in the Olympics; she's not Miss UK in a beauty pageant. Considering I was being facetious, I don't really care mate .
KFS Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 I love Ice Hockey so much. I'd move to the USA just to get engrossed in it. (If Leicester were ever to get bankrupt)
Jordan Posted 12 February 2014 Author Posted 12 February 2014 Considering I was being facetious, I don't really care mate .I really responding again to the earlier comment, I just used your post to get my rant started
StanSP Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 I really responding again to the earlier comment, I just used your post to get my rant started . Wasn't have a go at you, was more not caring about Muirhead!

Jordan Posted 13 February 2014 Author Posted 13 February 2014 In men's curling GB's Murdoch is putting USA's Shuster under serious pressure... He's stolen 3 points after 3 ends with his team playing fantastically. For a curling fan, it's actually rather "exciting" stuff with lots of rocks in play, but I wish it weren't the USA getting squeezed like this. I ain't even mad, though, because the Scots invented this shit, after all. Calm it. . Was a passing comment, hardly the crime of the century. Don't get your knickers in a twist pal. You're so cool.
leicsmac Posted 13 February 2014 Posted 13 February 2014 Decent chance for Christie in the 500m speed skating to get a medal here - favourite crashed out in her semi-final and she won it. Yarnold leading the skeleton too, so looking good. Does Muirhead ever fackin smile? One of the most miserable people I've ever seen! I believe they call that 'being focussed'. If I wanted the team representing my country to smile and joke as they were working I'd go to see a stand-up.
ScouseFox Posted 13 February 2014 Posted 13 February 2014 Christie finished second. She whipped two of them up then got up off the deck quickest. She got disqualified. Nightmare.
Alexikokopops Posted 13 February 2014 Posted 13 February 2014 Do Netherlands just spend all their funding for Winter sports on Speed skating I wonder? Successful athletes are often concentrated densely in small areas. The three speed skaters who picked up gold, silver and bronze for the Netherlands at the Winter Olympics in Sochi on Monday helped take the country's all-time medal tally to 94. Only four of these medals have not been awarded to speed skaters. Their team of skaters have already won eight medals in Sochi. The Netherlands have won more gold, more silver and more bronze medals than any other country in the history of the sport. That 96% of their medals have come in one sport might sound strange, but it's not that surprising when we consider the country's geography, culture and history. Speed skating suits the Netherlands' topology. Nearly a quarter of the country's population live below sea level, and when that water freezes, how else are they going to get around? They hosted the very first skating world championships back in the 19th century and they have continued to invest heavily in the sport, right up to the 1990s, when their full-time professional teams helped them pick up a glut of Olympic medals. Dutch people have the advantage of being the tallest on Earth, and their culture values speed skating. In 54 years of the Dutch Sportsman of the Year award, 17 prizes have gone to speed skaters. Only two footballers – Johan Cruyff and Ruud Gullit – have won the award. Speed skating is accessible, popular and cherished. In short, it's kind of a big deal. When Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands proposed to his now Queen back in 2001, he was wearing a pair of skates. http://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2014/feb/12/countries-excel-one-olympic-sport-winter-sochi

A men's win over the yanks too! Happy days. Oh, and look at them all smiling!

Well, hopefully she'll be smiling at the top of the podium next week. Shame about Christie, but she's still got the 1000m to go for.
Jordan Posted 13 February 2014 Author Posted 13 February 2014 Good job Murdoch, the better curlers definitely won that one. USA hockey beating the piss out of Slovakia, 7-1 and the 2nd period isn't even over. Love it.
Super_horns Posted 13 February 2014 Posted 13 February 2014 Shame about Christie, but she's still got the 1000m to go for. Bit unlucky I thought but she was always going to get done for it. Shame but a very good performance.
Guest MattP Posted 13 February 2014 Posted 13 February 2014 How do you manage to grow up in the US sports system and bypass Baseball, Basketball, NFL and Ice Hockey to end up flying down ice on a slab at 150kmps instead? On a sidnote, I thought Putin had banned all homosexual propaganda? The male figure skating tells me different.

cambridgefox Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 Yarnold has increased her lead in the Skeleton.....I mean skelington! One more run and she will be last to go later today. They reach 80mph on those trays.
Webbo Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 Yarnold has increased her lead in the Skeleton.....I mean skelington! One more run and she will be last to go later today. They reach 80mph on those trays. Watching it now. Come on girl!
Super_horns Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 Only way she can lose this is by crashing..could just take it "easy" if that is possible in such an event. Hopefully not tempting fate!
ScouseFox Posted 15 February 2014 Posted 15 February 2014 Russia vs USA in the ice hockey could be good. Christie got disqualified from her second event this morning too. Not having a good time here.
ScouseFox Posted 15 February 2014 Posted 15 February 2014 Russia/USA in the ice hockey has been boss. It's in extra time, 2-2, about to go to penalties unless someone scores in the next 90 seconds. If anyone wants a bit of excitement, whack the pens on.
isaidno Posted 15 February 2014 Posted 15 February 2014 Thought the penalties were never going to end
foxes_rule1978 Posted 15 February 2014 Posted 15 February 2014 Loved the penalties, really good viewing that was.
