Guest Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 I'm looking for an English TV series based a round marketing and if not buiness - it could just be a sit-com loosely related. What highly intelligent and helpful poster can give me a suggestion? thanks in advance - rep points will be given.
Guest Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 The office. thought of that one but was waiting for someone to confirm. I'll check it out as it's a while since I watched it last.
Captain... Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 The IT crowd could also work, a lot of satire mixed in with the sillyness, what do you need it for? Does it have to be English, or could it just be in English? Mad Men is the only thing specifically marketing, well advertising, based that I can think of.

In English; I've got a good level Masters Marketing and packaging group. Half of them are excellent and regularly watch English series in their own time (anything from walking dead to friends to Sherlock and Luther) and I want to reinforce this with the others by having them watch, each week, a series as part of their course. Considered something like "the apprentice" but too many people just shout over each other there and decided that would be too difficult for those I'm targeting most. Haven't watched mad men but I'll check it out. Thanks
The Blur Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 Phone Shop- a sitcom about staff in a phone shop. It is 30 minutes per episode so it should be easy for your students to put time aside to watch it. I haven't watched it myself though.

Leicesterpool Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 The Office is probably the most boring sitcom I've ever seen,Ricky Gevais is really unfunny. I'd suggest Only Fools and Horses series six onwards when Del Boy becomes a yuppy.

I went out with a girl once who didn't get it so I considered dropping her, but she had a cracking body so I kept her on. Then we watched Borat and she didn't even get that (my thinking: IQ <80) so she had to go at that point.
davieG Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 The Pitch This documentary series takes cameras behind the closed doors of the world of advertising as two advertising agencies go head to head to win a real campaign from a major brand. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2287229/
Guest Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 Dragon's Den? it's a reasonable idea but the lack of "follow on" between épisodes deters me. I want them to get the idea of series addictions.

Captain... Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 You could also give 2012 a go, comedy in the office vein, i.e. believeably absurd and no laughter track, fly on the wall documentary style following the Olympic deliverance committee, not really marketing based, but has a ridiculous PR company responsible for branding, and they use lots of "buzz" words. Very English, quite funny and inoffensive more recent than the Office too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjY0784vHN8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ftvjul-PPDs
indierich06 Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 The Thick of It. Basically a series about political spin, but that's more or less marketing in my opinion. Politics is all about selling an ideology, or a party or a candidate and spin is at the heart of that.

Politics is all about selling an ideology, or a party or a candidate and spin is at the heart of that. Brilliant show, but it's quite difficult to follow if you aren't a native Anglophone. Tried it out on my Romanian housemates and I kept needing to explain what was going on, plus most of the jokes went straight over their heads anyway.
The Blur Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 Can't find it on IMDB so I'll have to try harder It is PhoneShop not Phone Shop -,my bad http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1742965/
Trav Le Bleu Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 How about The Call Centre? BBC fly-on-the-wall documentary. Never watched it as I hated my time working in a call centre and many of the people in it seemed all too familiar. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p018vlpy
