lavrentis Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 I'm watching the Premeirship 2003/2004 season review DVD and this is the team that played Chelsea when we lost 2-1 Ian Walker John Curtis Steve Howey Riccy Scimeca Alan Rogers Ben Thatcher Lilian Nalis Muzzy Izzet Andy Impey James Scowcroft Paul Dickov Keith Gillespie Craig Hignett Brian Deane Les Ferdinand Would you say our current Championship team is better than that?
Ross 'LCFC' Turner Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Compare the average age of our current squad to the average age of that squad and there's probably 10 years difference.

No wonder we got relegated, bar Izzet and Walker no other player was PL quality. Ferdinand was at the end of his career.
Tom17LCFC Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 So depressing I can't believe I used to enjoy going during those years looking at that squad.
Soar Fox Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Ben Thatcher was a decent enough defender. Also struck a mean free kick.
foxfanazer Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 A lot betterr now. Liked Walker and obviously Muzzy was better than anything we have currently but just feel we have better footballers. Loved Dickov as well though Ben Thatcher was a decent enough defender. Also struck a mean free kick.absolute thug!
okie fox Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Curtis, Howie, Rogers and Hignett were useless! Ferdinand was about the only one of Adams' 'old' signings that was decent.

Just about, yes. Walker and Izzet were the best players in that side, Dickov had two very good seasons and Ben Thatcher was a solid enough defender. The combined side would be: Walker De Laet Morgan Thatcher Konchesky Knockaert Drinkwater Izzet Dyer Dickov Nugent (based on his 2 1/2 years)
Jakemoore Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Ferdinand was decent, izzet 😠Dickov ðŸ˜, walker was decent too but apart from that, this team is better! Didn't we sign bent that January? He was quality when we had him, and then he went down hill some what!
Fox92 Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Don't forget Adams had no budget. He had to work with free transfers and took gambles, he admitted that himself. Some worked, Ferdinand and Thatcher were decent, and the others didn't. Went to some good, bad and strange games that season. Remember Birmingham at home when Walker came out and handled it? Got sent off after Elliott had already been sent off. The game at Wolves (3-4) is one of the worst I've attended, while games at Middlesbrough (3-3) and Spurs (4-4) were just crazy.

The average age of our squad would have been sky high! Think we have the right blend now of experienced pros, as well as young + hungry players. Couple that with a few additions to the squad and I think we'd do alright.
lcfcsnow Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Ferdinand was decent, izzet Dickov , walker was decent too but apart from that, this team is better! Didn't we sign bent that January? He was quality when we had him, and then he went down hill some what! Being the only player with any pace or skill in the squad at the time, he would look decent. Bit of a journeyman but he performed well that season, he scored a great goal at Charlton with the outside of his foot. Izzet carried us to promotion but that squad had no hope, no eye to the future whatsoever. I still can't believe Micky Adams actually signed Paul Brooker for the Prem
Corky Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 If we'd lost Izzet after relegation in 2002 I reckon we'd have struggled to return. He was worth so many points with his influence, his set-pieces and his goals. We had a squad that used to bully teams rather than sweep them aside with flowing football.

Adams did a great job that season that's for sure
Dan Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Forgot all about that Forest loving blurt Alan Rogers. Never got to tweet him after the 4th May due to being blocked.
lavrentis Posted 6 January 2014 Author Posted 6 January 2014 Ian Walkers handball outside the box lol lol
Basingstoke Fox Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Forgot all about that Forest loving blurt Alan Rogers. Never got to tweet him after the 4th May due to being blocked. That game though. What a superb way to shut him up!
Simonb Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 id have Liam Moore over Ben Thatcher in the combined team
Guest kristianity77 Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Who the hell is John Curtis? I cant even recall that name as a blast from the past!
Soar Fox Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 To be fair the squad that Micky Adams had he did quite well with it. Like Fox92 said he had no budget and most were mainly free transfers, the season before he only signed 2 players and they both played for free that year. I'm sure I read somewhere a few years back that if the games ended on the 88th minute we would have finished somewhere ridiculous like 12th. Had some great away days that season even going to some grounds for the 1st time, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Birmingham City, Tottenham, Everton and Bolton.
Soar Fox Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Who the hell is John Curtis? I cant even recall that name as a blast from the past! Used to play for Manchester United.
Dickov22 Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Who the hell is John Curtis? I cant even recall that name as a blast from the past! He was absolutely terrible
Dickov22 Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Dickov, Izzet, Thatcher were all top players for us. Walker, Impey, Scowcroft did ok. The rest of that side looks awful Nallis was ok too
