Sooper Steve's shin Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Ian Walker = Kasper Schmeichel John Curtis < Ritchie De Laet Steve Howey < Wes Morgan Riccy Scimeca = Liam Moore Alan Rogers < Paul Konchesky Ben Thatcher = Marcin Wasilewski Lilian Nalis < Danny Drinkwater Muzzy Izzet > Matt James Andy Impey = Lloyd Dyer James Scowcroft < David Nugent Paul Dickov > Jamie Vardy Keith Gillespie > Andy King Craig Hignett < Anthony Knockaert Brian Deane > Martyn Waghorn Les Ferdinand > Chris Wood
cityfanlee23 Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Just about, yes. Walker and Izzet were the best players in that side, Dickov had two very good seasons and Ben Thatcher was a solid enough defender. The combined side would be: Walker De Laet Morgan Thatcher Konchesky Knockaert Drinkwater Izzet Dyer Dickov Nugent (based on his 2 1/2 years) And It would still be a hairy season!
Manwell Pablo Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 No wonder we got relegated, bar Izzet and Walker no other player was PL quality. Ferdinand was at the end of his career. You say that, Ferdinand Bent and Dickov scored enough goals to put us in contention for a UEFA cup spot the problem was at the other end.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 If we had Ferdinand, Izzet and Dickov from that season in our squad now we would win this league no problem!
The Blur Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Don't forget Adams had no budget. He had to work with free transfers and took gambles, he admitted that himself. Some worked, Ferdinand and Thatcher were decent, and the others didn't. Went to some good, bad and strange games that season. Remember Birmingham at home when Walker came out and handled it? Got sent off after Elliott had already been sent off. The game at Wolves (3-4) is one of the worst I've attended, while games at Middlesbrough (3-3) and Spurs (4-4) were just crazy. Remember the reserve fixture, it was our first game after La Manga scandal, Benjamin scored the winner in a 1-0 win. It was a massive game. Ian Walker = Kasper Schmeichel John Curtis < Ritchie De Laet Steve Howey < Wes Morgan Riccy Scimeca = Liam Moore Alan Rogers < Paul Konchesky Ben Thatcher = Marcin Wasilewski Lilian Nalis < Danny Drinkwater Muzzy Izzet > Matt James Andy Impey = Lloyd Dyer James Scowcroft < David Nugent Paul Dickov > Jamie Vardy Keith Gillespie > Andy King Craig Hignett < Anthony Knockaert Brian Deane > Martyn Waghorn Les Ferdinand > Chris Wood I am sorry but Moore is better than Ricky!
RonnieTodger Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 No wonder we got relegated, bar Izzet and Walker no other player was PL quality. Ferdinand was at the end of his career. I ****ing loved Sir Les, what a guy. Adams loved the golden oldies. I remember when he brought Guppy back on loan that season
lavrentis Posted 7 January 2014 Author Posted 7 January 2014 I briefly remember that season due to my age but it seems like that season was a good laugh/interesting time to be a Leicester fan
Master Fox Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 You say that, Ferdinand Bent and Dickov scored enough goals to put us in contention for a UEFA cup spot the problem was at the other end. I remember some statistic from the prem season where it was something like 'If all games had finished in the 85th min, Leicester would have finished 4th'
Hugo Sanchez Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Benjamin didn't score at Birmingham, was Ferdinand.
lavrentis Posted 7 January 2014 Author Posted 7 January 2014 I remember watching the Leicester Arsenal game and when Dickov scored I thought we would beat the invincibles
bovril Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 I briefly remember that season due to my age but it seems like that season was a good laugh/interesting time to be a Leicester fan It's the season that probably pains me more as a City fan than any other. 4-3 vs Wolves. 3-3 Boro. The 6-0 reverse at home against Villa. We should've stayed up, the amount of points we blew was unreal. Who knows where we'd be now.
Soar Fox Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Me and my dad went to the Tottenham v Leicester game I'm sure it was on sky when we drew 4-4. We were 3-1 down at half time and were singing "we're going to win 4-3" and we did actually go 4-3 up, then Scowcroft I think got sent off and Defoe scored a late equaliser.
Sampson Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 James Scowcroft played the right of midfield for the vast majority of his timefor us. The strikeforce of Dickov and Ferdinand was streets ahead what we have now and probably better than any other strikeforce we've had since Lineker and Smith (I certainly rate it higher than any we had under O'Neill as an actual strikeforce - not necessarily as individual players - and the goal tallies against the games played back that up especially when you consider our position in the league). Our current defence is better than that defence overall though, not sure about the midfield, the old side probably had better individuals (Izzet, McKinley) but the current one is more balanced and has more quality throughout. I thought Walker was better than Schemichel though.
Soar Fox Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 I ****ing loved Sir Les, what a guy. Adams loved the golden oldies. I remember when he brought Guppy back on loan that season He signed an ageing Nikos Dabizas as well.
Vlad The Impaler Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Yeah, was the 0-5 defeat against Bolton, wasn't it? Think it was against Villa, seem to remember Crouch bagging a few. Remember getting a 'Nuts' magazine attached to our seats aswell, that fan running on the pitch to 'attack' Walker was laughable! When you put it into context it wasn't actually THAT bad, I mean 5 goals, a Nuts magazine and a boxing match all in the space of 90 minutes
Langston Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Remember Martin Keown plodding about the back for us in the Championship the season after, dire.
Soar Fox Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Remember Martin Keown plodding about the back for us, dire. Wasn't that the season after relegation when Adams signed, Tiatto, Dublin, Keown, Nathan Blake?
Corky Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 I briefly remember that season due to my age but it seems like that season was a good laugh/interesting time to be a Leicester fan Up until December we were doing quite well, went on a five game unbeaten run (including the Arsenal game) and we looked a competitive enough side with plenty of goals in it. Just drew far too many matches.
Langston Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Wasn't that the season after relegation when Adams signed, Tiatto, Dublin, Keown, Nathan Blake? Haha, I got the edit in quick. **** me we signed some shit.
Soar Fox Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Haha, I got the edit in quick. **** me we signed some shit. The 2004/05 season we did sign a lot of crap, just had a quick look at who we did sign and it's a depressing read.

Heskey & Cottee and Heskey & Collymore (although short-lived) were both collectively and individually way better than Dickov & Ferdinand.
Guest shearfox Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Woah, woah, woah.... Heskey & Cottee and Heskey & Collymore (although short-lived) were both collectively and individually way better than Dickov & Ferdinand. 100% agree
Dickov22 Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Woah, woah, woah.... Heskey & Cottee and Heskey & Collymore (although short-lived) were both collectively and individually way better than Dickov & Ferdinand. Collymore was good for a few games. He then became lazy and couldn't be arsed (post O'Neill)

Think Crouch got a hat trick if I remember correctly. Also remember a fair section of the Kop throwing their season tickets onto the pitch they were that disgusted. Collymore was good for a few games. He then became lazy and couldn't be arsed (post O'Neill) Didn't he break his leg at Derby?
steveherbe Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 100% agree Another 100% from me. Tony cottee, a real goalscorer. Inspired signing.
