Leicesterpool Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 A lot of past it players in that team then.
Lionator Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Who the hell is John Curtis? I cant even recall that name as a blast from the past! Middlesboro away brrrrrrrrrr 3-3.
MC Prussian Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 A comparison with the 2002/2003 squad would be much fairer, in my opinion. We're not in the Premier League (yet). Luckily enough, Micky Adams' gambles paid off then and he made some shrewd signings. I still find it fascinating he fell from grace so quickly, only to end up at Port Vale. He's a decent manager and I do hope he achieves promotion with them.
bovril Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 I would say Walker, Thatcher, Howey (old but had Premiership experience) Izzet, Dickov and Ferdinand were good enough. We also had McKinley, Bent and Sinclair that season who were Premiership quality, and Gillespie who went on to have a few decent seasons at Shef U. If we had kept a more settled back four and Adams had refrained from making rediculous substitutions we would have stayed up.There are a few in our team now that have the potential, but almost all are completely unproven at that level.
Matt Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 The keepers are on a parr with Kasper just about edging it. The current defence are better than the 2003/04 defence. The 2003/04 midfield is better than the current (Although I wouldn't have minded a couple of the current midfield in that team) The strikeforce is a tough one to pick between then and now. I'd say both teams are on a parr, tough to pick if either were/are better, It's a mixture of both really.

All three continued at the top level after we got relegated. Nugent's the only one of our current crop who has played there before, and he proved he's not really good enough.
Kitchandro Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 The midfield is decent enough and our strikers weren't out of their depth. The defenders were mostly shocking but we had some useful players besides that. Which is really how the season turned out. If we had just kept the back door shut more often and stopped conceding some ridiculous goals we would have stayed up. I'm bored of churning out that old stat so I'm not going to, but you all know the one I'm referring to.
Fox92 Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Ian Walkers handball outside the box lol lol Was so funny. Just lost his head. Then pointed to say someone was on the line! Elliott got sent off before I think, and Adams was sent off at half time.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Leicester side generations comparison game rule number 1: Any side with Muzzy in it wins.
Soar Fox Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Was so funny. Just lost his head. Then pointed to say someone was on the line! Elliott got sent off before I think, and Adams was sent off at half time. Wasn't that the first time Robbie Savage played against us after leaving? I'm sure he was the one encouraging the ref to send Matt Elliott off.
Dickov22 Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Micky Adams' late substitutions and the chaos they often resulted in cost us loads of points
deanolegend1989 Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 We had a decent team that year! Alot better than people make out. Remember that season was the start of the mid naughties period where the top 4 english teams were becoming really powerful amongst Europes best(My opinion 04-10 the top 4 English clubs were amongst the top 4 in Europe). The last few years its evened out and I personally think its easier to survive for clubs like us. Going back to that season, we scored goals for fun! I remember looking at stats and we would of finished about 8th without all those late goals and we also scored more away goals that nearly everyone in the league(2nd/3rd?). We had some cracing strikers, Dickov, Bent and Ferdinand were all top players(admittedly all a bit on the old side). Izzet was class, Walker and Thatcher amongst a few others, we had a very decent mid table team. The reason we went down was because we couldnt hold onto a lead, whether it be 1-0, 2-0 or even 3-0. Wolves was a shocker, 3-1 up in 90th minute against Boro..Even Spurs, 3-1 down..4-3 up incredible but I remember at the time, might as well stick £1000 on 4-4 because it WILL happen. Even a late Di Canio pen vs Charlton, our record crowd vs Newcastle ruined with a 94th Ambrose strike, Walkers awful mistake vs Bolton, Getting back to 2-2 vs Leeds to then throw it away..tbh even the last day of the season, Dickov scored and I joked 'Wow even today we'll lose when taking the lead'. We had an awful defence and not a settled back 4. If we had a Wes Morgan, Liam Moore partnership we'd of stayed up comfertably.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Anyone remember the home game against Arsenal? Ashley cole got sent off, drew 1-1 I think. Was a quality atmosphere that day On the other side of the coin we lost 5-0 at home to villa, that was the last time(I believe) they put free magazines on the seats before a game
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Even though we got relegated I still enjoyed that season far more than I did any other season untill our brief flirtation with L1
ealingfox Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Just about, yes. Walker and Izzet were the best players in that side, Dickov had two very good seasons and Ben Thatcher was a solid enough defender. The combined side would be: Walker De Laet Morgan Thatcher Konchesky Knockaert Drinkwater Izzet Dyer Dickov Nugent (based on his 2 1/2 years) Decent side that.

Ashley Cole got sent off for an awful challenge on Thatcher. Then Crsig Hignett popped up with a last minute equaliser.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 COULDN'T SCORE IN LA MANGA !!! What a season, my personal highlight was Andy Gray with the immortal lines .. GARRY DOHERTY WHAT ARE YA DOING !!!
Tuna Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Ian Walker - Good keeper. John Curtis - Useless. Steve Howey - Fat. Riccy Scimeca - Championship standard. Alan Rogers - worst left back in our history. Ben Thatcher - always impressed for us. Lilian Nalis - great goal v Leeds but face it, he was shit. Muzzy Izzet - Legend. Andy Impey - No neck. A good servant to the football club. James Scowcroft - An absolutely useless striker. Paul Dickov - Always worked his socks off for us. Keith Gillespie - Couldn't be bothered by the time he played for us. Craig Hignett - League 2 standard player. Brian Deane - Past it by several years. Les Ferdinand - Quality despite being 50 years old.
fleckneymike Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Ferdinand had a glorious swan song with us. That was a right rag tag squad, if they'd been fitter we'd have stayed up but sadly we excelled in capitulating in the last couple of minutes.
Kitchandro Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 COULDN'T SCORE IN LA MANGA !!! What a season, my personal highlight was Andy Gray with the immortal lines .. GARRY DOHERTY WHAT ARE YA DOING !!! I love the way he gets even more Scottish when he says that line, like a parody of himself.
Donut Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Craig Hignett was Arsenal's best player until he scored the equaliser in the 1-1 draw.
Winnershfox Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Anybody remember the idiot fan that season who came on the pitch and attacked Ian Ian Walker. ? The 1-1 with Arsenal was a last minute Craig Hignett equaliser went crazy that day.
