Will Pearson be retained if we get promoted

The only way Pearson will go is if Pearson wants to go.

Don't be surprised if quite a few clubs come knocking.

To my mind, the only reason why he hasn't signed a new contract is because he's likely keeping HIS options open, not ours.

Agree with this. I'd be a little concerned if Newcastle were interested but lower-mid table we should be ok to keep them at bay.

He's smart to let it run down, he might even feign a bit of interest, he's in a position to pretty much write any contract he wants.

Credit where credits due, NP has earned the right to manage us in the Premiership.

He's turned things round from genuinely being close to getting the sack to guiding his team to winning the championship.

How things will go next season who knows?

Patience is the key when you first go up, the a Premiership is an overrated league with mediocre sides along with the big money clubs in the top 6.

Money talks in the Premiership, we have the financial backing to compete, can NP manage better high profile players and win under pressure in the Premiership?

I hope he can, one things for sure, he's earned the right to.

Lets hope all the happy back slappers on here stay with him should things get tough next season.

Well done that man, you certainly proved me wrong.

I'm sure if he loses a few on the spin, you'll be back on here slating him again.

If that does happen, given he will he provided two promotions and two play-offs in four full seasons, he'll get some support from me.

Before I start - I am fully behind Nigel Pearson and rate him highly..

A lot has been talked about his contract and moreso player contracts and I think it is assumed by most that if we get promoted they will all be offered new contracts.

Pearson is out of contract in the summer. Is he seen as a Premiership Manager by the owners or just a means to an end?

I believe Pearson had 2 mandates when appointed

1] Strip the costs / Ensure the club can survive on it's own merits with the future FFP in mind

2] Try to gain promotion.

I fully believe that Pearson was not sacked towards / at the end of last season because he was meeting part one of the mandate whilst getting very close to part 2 and the owners had learn't some lessons.

Pearson is very good at working under a budget. The owners are reported to be taking advice still from football experts and managers         (I.e Sousa :-o ) and have learnt that sacking a manager and changing the team every summer doesn't work (and costs a lot). But........

If we get promoted to the prem, do they see Nigel as the man to take the helm at that level or having reached the promised land will they opt for a higher profile manager and get the cheque book out again with more room to manoeuvre being a little less constrained by FFP?

Many owners rid themselves of the manager that got them promoted after a few months in the prem. Pearson is out of contract - may they opt to make a clean break at the end of the season.

Being in this position, how much comfort can Pearson offer the current bunch of soon to be out of contract players that they will be offered new contracts at the end of the season if we go up? It must be in their minds that he may not be the gaffer. They must be thinking about potential scenarios... if we get promoted, will I be kept on? Am I seen as a means to an end? Nugent is a good example of a player that is important to us this season but who could be replaced by a £xxxxx striker to do the business in the prem. Dyer is another.

The good news is that either way they need to show good form to stand the best chance of a decent contract with us or elsewhere. But equally, they know that if they get a long term injury towards the end of their contract they are stuffed! 20k per week down to zero?. Do they pull out of those 50/50 tackles? Does this make the difference between wining and losing a few games? Does this make the difference between staying in the championship or getting promoted?

There must be a lot of uncertainty amongst management staff and players. I understand the need to not offer new contracts until the end of the season but my concern is that not even the manager is able to to give the best players a nudge and a wink of reassurance.

OMG!

Even if we go up and go straight back down, we want NP in the long-run. He's shown over the past 2 seasons that he's still growing as a manager and he could be very, very good. Konchesky said he's up there with Hodgson tactically. All the complaints we used to have about Pearson (boring long ball football, always playing his "cronies", arrogant to media, unadaptable formations etc.) have all been eradicated this season.

I would see no reason to dismiss him even if we got relegated. (Although I have every confidence we'll survive with him in charge)

Who better would you want to get us out the championship?

Fair play. Hodgson's a very decent tactician to be fair although it often comes at the cost of the outstanding attacking threat. Pearson's making the most of them this year. The goals potential in our team is frightening.

Keep him when we go up, and I think keep him if we come back down again. We've seen how hard Prem teams find it when they get relegated (Wigan, Bolton, QPR etc) and our best chance of avoiding that is stability.

Posted

Even if we do go up and come straight back down again, as long as the club continues to operate sensibly like it had under Pearson, we'll be in a much better way than we have been for a long time.

NP didn't seem the right appointment to me when he was first appointed. He also made a slow start to his improvements to the side and that did more to reinforce that view.

However the changes that he has made are long term in their nature, great to watch, premiership compatible (not hoof and hope, but really great quality football) and he has showed himself to be a much more flexible and pragmatic manager than he was (or maybe my perception of him was).

The season has almost been faultless and his management has been almost faultless too ....

So I'll say it now ..... I'd keep him for the whole of next year in the perm, and 6 months in the championship even if we were relegated. Because I just don't see how he hasn't earn that, and how we could replace him with anyone more suitable to the job.

I think you've expressed my views too.

He began as an old banger, than changed into a Fiesta, and is now a Ferrari.

Are people serious! The owners are loyal to Pearson because he's the right man for the job! Which is why he is so relaxed about the contract situation! He's going nowhere and I for one reckon he will do great next year! Yes some players will leave! That's football I'm afraid. Nigel has the club and owners interests first! And if we do go down he will bring us straight back up.

This is the start of a new era!

Why this thread? After this season who can deny him managing in the PL. It ain't broke so what is there to fix?

New challenges lie ahead. It should be no different to any season .If we struggle, will the owners hold their nerve or will the PL pot of gold cause panic?

I want him to stay even if we get relegated. He is the one who can bring us back up. I don't think he will stay once we are in the top flight because another 'bigger' club may try and poach him, I really hope that does not happen. He has given us so much and I really hope that he stays

If he does well he'll be gone at the end of next season a la Rodgers or Lambert - if he does poorly he will be gone by Jan - of the past 12 teams promoted only 2 have kept their managers - West Ham and Hull and one of those its too early to tell. Plus we know Pearson is mercenary so why wouldn't he go to a Villa or Newcastle if he's as good as you all think he is?
