Bagworthblue Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Before I start - I am fully behind Nigel Pearson and rate him highly.. A lot has been talked about his contract and moreso player contracts and I think it is assumed by most that if we get promoted they will all be offered new contracts. Pearson is out of contract in the summer. Is he seen as a Premiership Manager by the owners or just a means to an end? I believe Pearson had 2 mandates when appointed 1] Strip the costs / Ensure the club can survive on it's own merits with the future FFP in mind 2] Try to gain promotion. I fully believe that Pearson was not sacked towards / at the end of last season because he was meeting part one of the mandate whilst getting very close to part 2 and the owners had learn't some lessons. Pearson is very good at working under a budget. The owners are reported to be taking advice still from football experts and managers (I.e Sousa :-o ) and have learnt that sacking a manager and changing the team every summer doesn't work (and costs a lot). But........ If we get promoted to the prem, do they see Nigel as the man to take the helm at that level or having reached the promised land will they opt for a higher profile manager and get the cheque book out again with more room to manoeuvre being a little less constrained by FFP? Many owners rid themselves of the manager that got them promoted after a few months in the prem. Pearson is out of contract - may they opt to make a clean break at the end of the season. Being in this position, how much comfort can Pearson offer the current bunch of soon to be out of contract players that they will be offered new contracts at the end of the season if we go up? It must be in their minds that he may not be the gaffer. They must be thinking about potential scenarios... if we get promoted, will I be kept on? Am I seen as a means to an end? Nugent is a good example of a player that is important to us this season but who could be replaced by a £xxxxx striker to do the business in the prem. Dyer is another. The good news is that either way they need to show good form to stand the best chance of a decent contract with us or elsewhere. But equally, they know that if they get a long term injury towards the end of their contract they are stuffed! 20k per week down to zero?. Do they pull out of those 50/50 tackles? Does this make the difference between wining and losing a few games? Does this make the difference between staying in the championship or getting promoted? There must be a lot of uncertainty amongst management staff and players. I understand the need to not offer new contracts until the end of the season but my concern is that not even the manager is able to to give the best players a nudge and a wink of reassurance.
davieG Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Who knows? Probably find even Top and co don't know.
Guest kristianity77 Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Yes id keep him if we got promoted. I also keep him if we got relegated first time back as well. The only time you could probably justify him losing his job here would be if he were to miss out on playoffs from the position we are currently in.
Bagworthblue Posted 6 January 2014 Author Posted 6 January 2014 I think we just assume but life has taught me to assume nothing as i'm usually friggin wrong

foxfanazer Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 No.Wanna bet? I'll give you odds of around...........40/1?
FuriousFox46 Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Yes, I wouldn't even think about swapping managers if he takes us up.
Fox92 Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 No. "No" as in you wouldn't want him to be retained? or "No" as in you think he wouldn't be retained? There is a difference between the both, and there is a difference in my reply.
nlukka Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 I can't see the owners going the way of Cardiff and sacking the man who gets them promoted (hopefully!) and replace with a 'big name'. I think they've learnt their lesson from appointing Sven.
KFS Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 I'd love to see him manage in the prem. For me, he's got the similar attributes of the branded 'up and coming managers' such as Rogers, Clarke etc. I think he'd be brilliant in the Premier League, he's got bits he can improve but that's football. His willingness to improve is a major factor aswell, he's eradicated the problems we've had with his sides in the past, and it's paying off.

They 100 million % will not get rid, I think they see him has a great up and coming manager, every season Pearson is learning and getting better.
Leicesterpool Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Are target next season would be survival and happily take a 17th finish, stick with pearson unless say we lose six out of our first six. If we don't go up then it will be a different story and actually could see Pearson walking rather than being sacked.
