Will Pearson be retained if we get promoted

Recommended Posts

Hand on heart (cos its what I think)... Yes I think Pearson would be kept. It would seem bizarre to instantly part with the man who has just got you promoted. Then... I think Pearson may struggle. I think he's possibly too rigid, doesnt embrace conflict and 'big personalities' and tactically may be a little outdated to bring success at the higher level.

I could be miles off, but I get this feeling.

Cue hostility... lol

Who are these big personalities that Pearson hasn't embraced?

In answer to the question, I don't see the point of letting him promote us then not keeping him when they stuck by him during the awful run last season, and I'd be extremely annoyed if they didn't give him a chance to manage in the Premier League having got us there.

I hope he is but as I have said in one of the contract threads.

With the lack of contracts I think our owners could be clearing the decks.

I agree but they stop getting paid in July. Would you risk a serious injury knowing as the summer gets nearer that in July you will cease to earn money and nobody will sign you when injured. You might but some may not.

On a similar note, I will bet a few prem players will pull out of challenges as the world cup looms as an example.

Doesn't seem to have affected the first half of the season

ok so I screwed that quote up good an proper . Bloody phone

I'd like to think he would have many successful seasons and go on to be a true Leicester legend, up there with O'Neill, Bloomfield, Holloway, Gilles and O'Farrell.

But something tells me the owners want more than just staying up and will get rid at the first reasonable opportunity.

Entirely my thinking

I'm not getting a season ticket if he isn't retained,  He's evolving as a manager and his signings are original.  This is our chance to become a stable successful club! Which we always seem to throw in the bin and take the same route has every other club.  Its boring

I well understand your logic.

My answer is I bloody hope so though.

For a long time i was a pearson doubter but in all honesty if we get promoted and we let him go i personally won't set foot in the ground again!

Can't see why not.

He's gradually improving as a manager and irrespective of whether we're promoted or not this season he seems to have managed the club soundly and within sensible constraints. Why throw that it all away just to start again for someone else trawling for a job at Championship level who would be odds on to have no more to offer, aned perhaps a lot less.

I'm not by nature a hero worshipper and have never yet been entirely satisfied by the standards we've set.

But that doesn't blind me to the improvements that have been made, the better standard of player being recruited, our greater consistency, the blossoming of players like Vardy, Knockaert and Moore who have all improved under a management that hadn't previously done particularly well in that department.

No, it's still not all pluses and details of my reservations have been aired broadly enough but thus far I'd give Pearson about 7.5/10 for his overall efforts so far and 8/10, perhaps even 8.5/10 for the position he's steered us into during this campaign.

Stringer seems to see the job as being done but I don't and some of my concerns remain as unaddressed as ever...maintaining pressure when we get in front, improving our goals return from set-pieces, scoring from more than an isolated few positions, improving our passing under pressure, the marking out of known dangermen etc. etc.

On the upside Pearson seems to have taken what seemed like resentment out of his interviews with Stringer which is a positive, he's shown himself to be a manager of integrity which I deeply respect and, as mentioned earlier, he seems to be improving some of his decision making, particularly on the tactical side.

I was disappointed in our approach to the FA Cup although I did appreciate Pearson's candour on the matter and do understand that a majority of City fans would far rather we get promoted than chase the FA Cup.

Personally I never feel that giving less than 100 per cent to anything is either wise or justified but time will tell and it's to Pearson's credit that I doubt we'll ever have a better chance of promotion than from the position we're in now.

If we fail it won't be all Pearson's fault anyway.

He's assembled a decent squad - a squad that, in essence, has taken us to the top of The Championship in successive seasons. He seems to manage the individuals soundly enough and I see no reason he wouldn't continue to improve our side even if we falter again this season, given chance.

So yes, I'd stick but whether our owners would agree or whether Pearson himself would be tempted by opportunities elsewhere is another matter.

I'm not totally convinced he'll be our manager even if we do go up. I've no inside reason to say that, it's just that I believe his progress will have been noted and that there'll be other jobs on offer.

Pearson ticks a lot of boxes for a lot of people as a manager. And his experience and popularity among the Leicester fans won't do him any harm either.

His having not signed a new contract leaves a lot of uncertainty, as it does in respect of key players. It might even affect our season on the run-in although some might argue that it shouldn't because everyone stands to benefit from our promotion.

I just worry that Leicester's "benefit" might be short-lived if there's another mass upheaval - for any reason.

No.

I think he'll be gone regardless in the summer.

Probably along with my season ticket

Interesting.

I can see him leaving if we aren't promoted, as he wouldn't have achieved what I imagine the owners took him onto do.

But why do you think they'd get rid of him if we do get promotion?

Posted

I don't see why they wouldn't let him have half a season to see what he can do. If we spend in to the double figures and are bottom 3 come Christmas then I wouldn't be shocked to see NP sacked.

Yes, I do think he'll be under massive pressure though so if we're well below the standard I think they'll change things. I've always been a Pearson fan and I really hope he brings success to our club for a long time.

:pearson:  Top bloke!

ok put another way - ... I am bored-  if you hadn't guessed you will when you read this.

I mentioned in the OP that the owners are business people but have learnt a lot already that you can't run a football club like a normal business but....from a businessman's perspective...

This may be a stupid analogy but allow some poetic license

You buy a local shop and employ a manager whose CV shows a lot of experience running small / medium shops. He gets a team in place and the shop is a great success. After a couple of years, you decide to sell up an re-invest in a large standalone supermarket. You have a lot of praise for your manager who operated well making your shop a success with limited resources and owe a lot to him..

Now you need to compete with Tesco and Asda, at the very least with LIDL and ALDI. The managerial role will be much more pressured with a greater remit operating at a different level with much more to consider. The benefits of success are now huge but equally, so is the price of failure. You know your manager isn't experienced managing at that level but your feel loyal and he is a hard worker and manages staff well albeit on a smaller scale. He has however, a lot to learn and it will be a big step up. You fear also he will bring members of his current team along and although you rate them, you feel also you need people with more experience working in a larger arena under more pressure.

A CV lands on your desk, an experienced supermarket manager who has succeeded at both Asda and Tesco for a number of years. He has, in your eyes, the skills needed to make your supermarket a success. You, like your current manager are not experienced at running a supermarket, and feel someone who has lived in that world will help you learn and achieve success.

What do you do?

Devil's advocate remember and yes it is completely different to running a football club but it also makes sense to an extent.

Would be a massive step backwards getting rid! He's know's the squad and club better than anyone else and has built up a good team around him too.

I'm sure the owners will be loyal. They hired him, stuck by him and have generally made very sound decisions since arriving. Fingers crossed. We need to get up first though!
