deanolegend1989 Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 Like I said in Feb, March, April and all through the summer when everyone was calling for his head - If we dont go up this year, keep Pearson and we'll go up. Now as its looking a decent bet so far, Ill say I was right. Now Ill say this, If we fail to go up again - Keep Pearson and we'll go up. If hes given time he will get us up, simple as that.. it may be this season or next but it will happen. If we get rid we will be in transition to at least 2016. Now Ill say this as this silly question(well not really silly because in reality it is a good question but silly in terms of it really shouldnt be a question but such as football and society in 2014..) IF we do go up this season, he 100% stays..If he doesnt then we'll be relegated. If he stays then we would stay up for seasons to come. He is a top manager and like Tony Pulis, I feel he'll keep an 'unfashionable' club like us up for season after season in the same way Pulis did to Stoke. The only time Id even consider getting rid is if we had a ridiculously awful run. I feel the knee jerk reactions should be cut out full stop, but especially for every bit of good this man has done for our club deserves extra time if it goes wrong. I.E some people might want him gone if were winning the Prem, some may be if we lose 3 in a row, maybe 6? Its hard for me to say how much until Id want him gone, but Id say unless an incredibly poor Premier League season with no fight, Id keep him to get us back up even if we did fail. If we start the first 10 games and are like Palace this year - points deficit after 10-15 games..People would want him gone but I wouldnt. The thing people always do in these situations is say like 'Oh but look at Southampton'(with Pochetino)..(or other examples). What they dont mention is every single other time where a manager has been sacked and someone has come in and none sweet f*** all and if anything got worse! You get rid of managers who show no sign of any highs(like us in 04-08). I find it absolutely ridiculous even thinking Pearson could be let go...in the same way Malkey Makay was treated.
Bagworthblue Posted 6 January 2014 Author Posted 6 January 2014 I totally agree - he could be our next MON or do even better. I just hope the owners see it the same way. I also hope that Pearson has been given a nod and a wink by the owners. That way he can give a nod and a wink to the playing staff - i.e. ''don't worry Lloyd, I'll be offered a new contract if we get promoted and I'lll be offering one to you'' From what some of the players are saying, there seems to be a void surrounding the subject. It's as if they are all totally in the dark. Surely someone is managing their expectations, giving them optimism. They all seem to want to stay and it's their dream to get to the Prem. It must be hard to work towards something knowing if you finally achieve it, you may be thanked and packed on your way. I know one thing - if we don't go up the squad could fall apart big time this summer and it will be back to the drawing board whoever the gaffer is.
CosbehFox Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 It would be a bit pointless wouldn't it? You have to look at the problems Cardiff and West Brom have suffered getting in a decent replacement for sacked managers. Palace wasn't straight forward either. Verdict still out on Fulham. Norwich go downhill since Hughton came in. The Southampton example is a massive exception; the owners put big money in to sign a different calibre from what promoted teams can normally claim.
kingfox Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 If he doesn't stay, I'll go and support Aberystwyth.
AnotherShitSeason Posted 6 January 2014 Posted 6 January 2014 If he doesn't stay, I'll go and support Aberystwyth. Or just dance round your room singing along to Rebecca Ferguson on a Sat perhaps?

Tbf norwich got hughton in because lambert went villa not cause they sacked him
Harry - LCFC Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 It's possible. I'm not in the business of gambling though. That image at the bottom of your sig about your posts needing to be 'approved' - is that genuine?
Nick Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Hand on heart (cos its what I think)... Yes I think Pearson would be kept. It would seem bizarre to instantly part with the man who has just got you promoted. Then... I think Pearson may struggle. I think he's possibly too rigid, doesnt embrace conflict and 'big personalities' and tactically may be a little outdated to bring success at the higher level. I could be miles off, but I get this feeling. Cue hostility... "Shites cock balls scrotum." I've found myself + 1'ing Col City, which implies nothing should surprise me any longer and I shouldn't post an opinion on this ( or quite frankly any other ) subject. Off to find some piano wire.
MPH Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 I think maybe a better question would be that if we allow his contract to be run down, whats stopping him from being poached by an established prem team? Other than the fact I would highly doubt an established prem team would want him but that's not the point! But lets face it, if he wanted to take a step up the ladder he'd have the perfect excuse...
Nick Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Unproven. Period. He needs this. Too many Holloways out there to justify giving him a shot at the big time and he knows it. ( And you do too )
Oxfordfox83 Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 It's possible. I'm not in the business of gambling though. Presumably why you can still afford an internet connection.
Crinklyfox Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 ok put another way - ... I am bored- if you hadn't guessed you will when you read this. I mentioned in the OP that the owners are business people but have learnt a lot already that you can't run a football club like a normal business but....from a businessman's perspective... This may be a stupid analogy but allow some poetic license You buy a local shop and employ a manager whose CV shows a lot of experience running small / medium shops. He gets a team in place and the shop is a great success. After a couple of years, you decide to sell up an re-invest in a large standalone supermarket. You have a lot of praise for your manager who operated well making your shop a success with limited resources and owe a lot to him.. Now you need to compete with Tesco and Asda, at the very least with LIDL and ALDI. The managerial role will be much more pressured with a greater remit operating at a different level with much more to consider. The benefits of success are now huge but equally, so is the price of failure. You know your manager isn't experienced managing at that level but your feel loyal and he is a hard worker and manages staff well albeit on a smaller scale. He has however, a lot to learn and it will be a big step up. You fear also he will bring members of his current team along and although you rate them, you feel also you need people with more experience working in a larger arena under more pressure. A CV lands on your desk, an experienced supermarket manager who has succeeded at both Asda and Tesco for a number of years. He has, in your eyes, the skills needed to make your supermarket a success. You, like your current manager are not experienced at running a supermarket, and feel someone who has lived in that world will help you learn and achieve success. What do you do? Devil's advocate remember and yes it is completely different to running a football club but it also makes sense to an extent. An excellent point Bagworthblue. This puts the Directors of the club under the spotlight and it is their decisions that ultimately affect our club. If they decide not to retain NP that gives the message that success is not rewarded, and would be a disincentive to the players and the staff. If that happens NP would, IMO be snapped up by another club to our detriment. If they retain him then at least that gives him the opportunity to show that the skills that he has acquired in his career are transferable to the Premiership. We'll never know if he can manage successfully in the Prem unless we give him the opportunity. I hope that they do give him a new contract and the time to build a team able to survive and then flourish in that league.
Guest Col city fan Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 "Shites cock balls scrotum." I've found myself + 1'ing Col City, which implies nothing should surprise me any longer and I shouldn't post an opinion on this ( or quite frankly any other ) subject. Off to find some piano wire. Thanks for that but how old are you? Your childish banter makes you sound about 8?
jmono84 Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 I really hope we keep pearson, what ever happens... He is building a squad and if he left I could see us starting all over again... Couldn't think of anyone that I would rather have right now!
CosbehFox Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Tbf norwich got hughton in because lambert went villa not cause they sacked him Still the same point to be made though; Norwich have struggled to replace him.
Haydos Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 What are the chances we're able to offer contracts at this point but Pearson wants to keep the players working for them and knows they'll be sitting comfortably if they get one now?
Number 6 Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 I'd be absolutely gutted if he wasn't. The fact that he hasn't signed a new deal yet suggests to me that he certainly wouldn't get one if we were not promoted. We'd be mad to not give him a go if he gets us up though: imagine being I the position of needing a boss and seeing his cv, he'd be a leading candidate.
surrifox Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Wasn't there rumours of Holloway or somebody that had just got promoted getting sacked before the season started Holloway had a huge falling out with CP chairman before the season started over some of the rubbish he spent a fortune on and he was a dead man walking after that
Kitchandro Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Unproven. Period. He needs this. Too many Holloways out there to justify giving him a shot at the big time and he knows it. ( And you do too ) Eh?
jmono84 Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 I can't see pearson gettin a contract and not the players, imagine how that could effect the situation... Hopefully they've had a quiet word in pearsons ear
ollielcfc Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Can't imagine the Thais being as idiotic as to not offer NP a contract if we're promoted. If we're not, then I still think a 12 month extension would be best for all parties. Continuity in the club, owners working with someone they know, and could just be the season that everything just clicks. This year has been exceptional, so lets hope NP gets rewarded either way.
MPH Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Eh? Was responding to my post and he's saying that Nige is Unproven in the prem to warrant any offers from prem teams...
suffolk fox Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 Here is a thought, the contract situation. Maybe the owners are waiting to see what league we will be in next season, hence why they are waiting. Cos it will cost them nowt to get rid if contracts are expired. Plus they have the advantage of being able to start afresh. I am waiting to see what league we will be in next season. If it is still the Championship then no he does not deserve another chance at managing our club. If he gets us promoted I would give him a short term contract of six months to see if he has the capabilities of keeping us up.
Cincinnati Fox Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 When Southampton sacked Adkins fans were outraged Now they all say was correct decision !
Mark_w Posted 7 January 2014 Posted 7 January 2014 When Southampton sacked Adkins fans were outraged Now they all say was correct decision ! Aren't you observant. I'm failing to see what that has to do with Leicester City though.
