Jimothy Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 I'm going to the pub. I may respond to his post at some point. There are parts of it I agree with. His attack on my spelling, not my argument was ad hominem. I was just highlighting that but it appears, not unsurprisingly, to have gone over many heads! If it gives you some kind of odd victory or comfort to imagine that I don't have 'the ability' to respond to a fairly middle of the road post, treading much trodden ground and saying nothing at all new, then go ahead! I think you and I both know it isn't true. I'll repeat the question. Why do you have to be so unpleasant all the time? Or can't you answer that? Does it make you feel bad that you have to be nasty to feel good you daren't admit it? I'm not the only one to notice this unpleasent streak, numerous other posters, including one a few posts up have mentioned it to you.
Rincewind Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 We don't need to invent ill people to justify nurses wages. Didn't you say last year the MD of DNO out was paid £50k a year, all out of lottery funding. Do you think it's in his interest to play down the problem? Never said that. DNO workers are part time. You must be thinking of the Action Homeless head. The money through that is gained by funding etc. He could have gone into another industry and earned more. I am not sure if it was 50k but some have said on here that it is not a lgood wage.

The God Emperor Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 I didn't watch it . Was it a bit like TOWIE? ye, but you dont want to see these people getting a vajazzle
Rincewind Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 I didn't watch it . Was it a bit like TOWIE? It was like a spoof. Just imagine Rab C Nesbitt.
Zingari Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 It was like a spoof. Just imagine Rab C Nesbitt. i couldn't watch that without the subtitles on
Zingari Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 ye, but you dont want to see these people getting a vajazzle perish the thought ! i fell sleep in front of the tv last night and woke up to graphic images of some seriously inflamed ladyparts on the "embarrassing bodies" show. Christ only knows what she'd been doing, i quickly turned it off !! i didn't sleep well at all after that
Alf Bentley Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 I'm going to the pub. I may respond to his post at some point. There are parts of it I agree with. I hope you enjoy your drink. I'm off to the pub myself shortly. If you make a civil response to my post, you'll get a civil reply from me. No need to feel obliged, though, as we all have busy lives. It makes me feel a bit uncomfortable to be nasty to people in the way that I have been to you, but I learned a long time ago that if you accept abuse from people, you just get more - and you seem to make a habit of unnecessary abuse. Please take Facecloth's comments (below) to heart. I'm sure you and I will always disagree about most things (apart from LCFC) as you seem to have quite right-wing attitudes and I seem to have quite left-wing attitudes (a generalisation, but a valid one). I've often crossed swords with other right-wing posters and it has generally been civil and often fun, even thought-provoking. For the record, my main point to you was that your support for the sterilisation of undesirables matched that of the Nazis. I naively hoped that might make you or others reconsider that support. I honestly thought that you had probably misspelled "sterilisation" on purpose as an exercise in trolling (though I wasn't sure). I now assume that it was just the sort of typo that we're all capable of, though I think that I'd check what I'd written if I was going to express an obviously controversial opinion like that. Enough about boring you and boring me. This thread is supposed to be about "Benefits Street". Will be interesting to see what the 2nd episode is like. Could degenerate into downmarket "reality TV" parody or could present a proper cross-section of people on the dole: the striving, the capable, the incapable, the skivers, the crooks, the damaged, the downtrodden and the retrievable.

The Year Of The Fox Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 And here's to you PanijPani radio. .. Rincewind loves you more than Dnoooooo woahhhhooo Sorry just came into my head reading the chants thread. Facecloth - of course they can get it wrong, like John says a system like this wull never be perfect but I'd rather they hit this hard considering what has happened over the last 15 years. I'll get some stats when im on the pc but I read that about a third who have come off incapacity or disability benefits have found work which shows what a shambles the system was. I have no idea how but we need to try and disabled numbers down, it's increasing every year and at current rates we won't be able to pay for the genuine cases in 50 years. Its because nowadays everything has a name or a term to be grouped in. You're no longer a bit thick, you're dyslexic. You get out of breath walking youre not unfit youre asthmatic. My exes sister had a serious illness as a newborn. She's absolutely fine now with noway of it returning. She will be paid the disability benefit for the rest of her life.
Finnaldo Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 To be fair Hitler had the right idea when it came to unemployment. His 'Work and Bread' policy introduced the National Labour Force. Unemployed were introduced to a 6 month training scheme, then were sent to camps where they were given a military uniform and made to do military grade exercise everyday. They would do tasks such as building hospitals or building motorways, and received no actual wage, instead being fed and receiving pocket money. If you denazify and modernise that, offering council estates as the 'camps' and adding a community centre, giving them all a uniform for work days and sending them on local menial jobs (janitor etc.) with the pay going to the project and the participant receiving the pocket money along with sufficient food and clothing vouchers. This means they get the food and clothing for themselves/children and if they really want to save up for luxuries such as smartphones.
Dr The Singh Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Invented it? You've ****ing mastered it. Does panj paani have anything to do with this. Personally disapointed with the show, not enough fit poon on it.

So we need to bring back Hitler from the dead.....someone has got to tell him his moustache is out of date and that goatee beards are the in thing!
Webbo Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 To be fair Hitler had the right idea You lost the argument right there.
Harry - LCFC Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Hitler did a good job of the economy. No reason why you can't find agreement with a particular individual whoever they may be. Although you might have done a better job of advertising the policy had you attributed it to some other 20th century country.
Rincewind Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Does panj paani have anything to do with this. Personally disappointed with the show, not enough fit poon on it. At the moment a new location is needed. It was at George Hines House which is part of the Towers hospital and National Health trust. The main bloke Subjet (?) is hopeful that there is a place available Narborough Rd area. some community hall I think. Negotiations are ongoing so can't say much more. I don't know much myself.
Finnaldo Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 You lost the argument right there. Hitler was a top lad when it came to economic policies. It was just mass genocide on a horrifying scale never seen before reaching new levels of human brutality where he lost it.

Captain... Posted 9 January 2014 Posted 9 January 2014 Lets get this thread back on topic and lets all promise to not be nasty to each other Sorry for the Comic Sans. This is being shown again on channel four. The biggest problem with it is there is very little explanation as to why these people are on benefits, with some it is obvious, but people are being judged without the facts. So lets look at the residents: Funguy/Funghi: Can't read or write, has been on diazepam since 16, god knows how old he is, he's been inside 3 times, had serious addictions, he is not going to ever get a job. It is sad, but the damage has been done, he slipped through the cracks a long time ago, what we need to be doing is making sure others don't end up like him. He clearly can't be trusted with money, and they are sending letters to a man who can't read telling him about changes in benefits. What do you do with someone like him though? Danny the shoplifter: What a twat, has qualifications to actually work, but would rather shop lift, probably going to end up getting killed when he gets out. White Dee: Is able to manage and look after reprobates like Funghi, no idea why she hasn't got a job, I actually think she would be very employable, but as they haven't said why she is on benefits, and I am only assuming she is, so I don't know why she isn't working. Black Dee: Didn't see much of her, single mum I think, didn't seem very capable with dealing with the Benefits people. 50p guy: Trying to make something of himself, seemed like he had it together and hit upon a a good idea although I wasn't sure whether he was actually stealing the stuff in the first place, but if he can buy in bulk and split it out, he can make a tidy profit. I would say he is very employable and motivated, with an entrepreneurial spirit, so why can't the job centre find him work? The benefit fraud couple: Didn't see much of them, but both seemed fit and healthy, don't know why neither of them are working, apart from maybe their criminal record for benefit fraud, they were actually laughing about it. Then you see their 2 little kids and think they have £30-£50 a week, it seemed to change, for the 4 of them, then they were lending money to Funghi. A very bizarre couple. I know it has been discussed before, but food stamps are the way forward, for people like Funghi or the couple, who are clearly unable to handle money. The other problems were the way they dealt with the benefits agencies and landlords, it just seemed like a constant incompetent battle. There was also a clear element of people feeling like they had no support and had just given up on finding work, and were happy to just collect benefits and waste their lives. It was also clear that people with no money and nothing to do tend towards crime, I mean I would be bored out my tree having no money and no job, and having no money and no job for a long time will just destroy people. It is clear that just giving people like those money is not going to make any difference, so what do you do? You can't just cut their benefits and kick them out on the street, as much as that would satisfy some people. Some of them are clearly capable of working, but how do you motivate them to find work? What about the children? There is a danger of letting children grow up in that environment well just continue the cycle and exacerbate the problem, but at what point do you start taking kids away from parents? Now lets try not to use words like, left, right, champagne socialist, bigot, exterminate, scum, scroungers and actually have a discussion about this program (we can continue the left vs right war in another thread) for this one lets remove all preconceptions from posters and discuss the issues raised in the program as whilst it is a microcosm of the problem and not indicative of everyone on benefits, there are people like these in every city. The real problem is to successfully tackle these issues will require money and resources that I don't think the government is willing to spare, but unless something is done to solve the root cause of these problems they will always exist in this country.

Nothing to do with the fact that every morning about 8 he comes out the newsagents with his cheeks and pockets bulging with sweets though.
Guest MattP Posted 9 January 2014 Posted 9 January 2014 I like this game! Funguy/Funghi: Completely hopeless, the absolute bottom of the barrel in society, only buzz in life is getting very drunk on cheap lager, do wonder how he still qualifies for his JSA (He said £150 at the cashpoint so thats what he is on), no way in a million years is that guy applying for six jobs every two weeks. Seems to have been kept alive by his brighter mate. Unemployable, hopeless, the opposite of what every human should aspire to be. No chance of any reform into society, potential for minor crimes. Verdict: Death penalty, passed off as alcohol poisoning. Danny the shoplifter: Brightest of the bunch, serious issues with self control. Intends to get himself arrested by the looks of it via shoplifting or being abusive if they aren't catching him for that, drug addict. Probably the worst bloke on the show considering he has been blessed with something of a brain. Verdict: Long spell at Her Majestys pleasure, cold turkey inside, an education encouraged. White Dee: The typical 'heart of gold' woman who actually is doing more damage than anyone, an enabler of scum, will use underhand tactics to gain things for people they don't deserve, happy to let people rot away. Giving a man a beer can for tieing a rope up is no way to encourage him to work. Fat as anything and smoking, the fact the taxpayer has funded this is nothing short of disgusting. Verdict: Three years forced volunteer work at DNO and forced fed salad until she hits 15 stone. Black Dee: Abusive, loud, ignorant. Will use any form of abuse or violence to get her own way. Verdict: Prostitute for those seedy white men who like to abuse black women and fantastise about what it was like in the slave trade. She'll pay her rent then. 50p guy: I liked him, he was far too nice for that street and the locals were suspicious of a man who was polite and courteous. Was he nicking the stuff? Probably, was it a front for drug dealing? Almost certainly. Most likely man in the street to become rich via some bizarre fad like Reggae Reggae Raggae Sauce. Verdict: Entered on the Apprentice, just comes up short but earns a living of a variety of wacky ideas. Moves to London and makes good money from tourists. Descends back into Drug Dealing in his 50's after a series of failed investments leaves him bankrupt. The benefit fraud couple: Strangest people I have ever seen, again complete down and outs. Criminals and skint, she seems to think the whole World is like her estate, guaranteed both are products of failed parents. A huge advert against paying child support to anyone, they actually gave some of it to Fungi to buy a beer. Verdict: Both steralised instantly, twice just in case. Kids taken into care for a chance at life, both commit suicide together in the complete opposite way of what Romeo and Juliet did.
Rincewind Posted 9 January 2014 Posted 9 January 2014 There is a kid at my lads school that has behaviol problems which is caused by some syndrome or other, apparently. Nothing to do with the fact that every morning about 8 he comes out the newsagents with his cheeks and pockets bulging with sweets though. Maybe his parents are bad parents unlike you and have no control over him or they beat each other with frying pans or are unable/refuse to help him with schoolwork. I know what is coming. There is no excuse and its blaming someone else. True but it not excuse or blame just possible causes for behavior problems which have been proven. But they can be stopped if tackled in the right way.
