ealingfox Posted 8 January 2014 Author Posted 8 January 2014 Don't know how anybody could go for King, unless James shagged their missus. No disrespect to King, but James is just twice the footballer he will ever be. I don't know about that! Will James ever score any like some of the outrageous strikes that King has done? Also I'd be surprised if King didn't feel some disrespect should he read that....

King doesn't have them in his locker anymore, this past season he seems like a watered down version from what he has been.

The Horse's Mouth Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Blackpool Away? It was alright, but he's had alot better ones in the past.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 James for me at the moment, DD seems more assured with the physicality he brings to the middle.
ealingfox Posted 8 January 2014 Author Posted 8 January 2014 It was alright, but he's had alot better ones in the past. No, it was a bit better than alright. In any case, his goals against Birmingham, Blackpool and Brighton prove that actually, he does still have the scoring ability in the locker. Finishing off a great team move in style (Bham), Distance strikes (Bpool), and ghosting around in the box (Bton). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtcbU0oS-c0&list=PLiuVCXyn6-rcT6XnWMyeNK9VaQJc0kIZf&index=20
Harry - LCFC Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Don't know why people have to exaggerate all the time. I'd pick James myself but that doesn't mean I'm required to follow it up with some overly harsh description of King to try and get my point across. I personally believe King would bang them in again if we followed the system used in the 10/11 season with James and Drinkwater taking up the roles Abe and Wellens played. It's just that 4-3-3 doesn't suit the rest of the team right now.
Dickov22 Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Feel sorry for Kingy. Good pro, never seems to moan when he's out the side, has the potential to score important goals too. Agree with Dan- the fact king is justifiably behind DD and James at the moment shows how decent our squad is.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 James has just that little bit more quality, and is still improving.
Langston Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 They're both great for different reasons but anybody who reckons either are better than Drinkwater needs to give their head a wobble. If that boy doesn't dip like he (and admittedly, the rest of the squad) did in February and March again, he's POTY for me, his performance at Vicarage Road will take some bettering from either James or King. As has been said, fantastic to have three genuinely excellent young midfielders to pick from for just the two slots.
FuriousFox46 Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Always pangs a little bit to see King's name on the bench every week, when he is out of the side. He's gotten minutes in the last couple, but you have to feel that when the teamsheet drops on Friday it will be James who gets the nod. They strike me as quite similar players, yet with notable differences. We all know King has got goals in the locker, and plenty of them, but have we missed them? I remember watching James the first few times after we signed him and thinking, 'what does this guy actually do?'. However, he has come on leaps and bounds over the last 18 months, he can break up play and distribute nicely. He might not have the goals of Andy King but he's assured, mobile, a good tackler, and probably does justify his selection. It's a real testament to the quality of Danny D (arguably the best CM in the Championship for me) that his place is safe, whilst two players as good as King and James are reduced to wrestling for one spot alongside him in the middle. So who do you think is the better player? And who provides the better foil for Drinkwater? I actually think King is the better footballer, but James is a better partner for DD. I think that's all it comes down to. I don't think either is particularly better than the other. We just happen to have three excellent centre mids and only two places
Manchesterred Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 During the younger days of DD an MJ at Man Urd. They played in a 3 alongside Tom Clevery. At 16,17 they all knew each other's game and would dominate teams for the full 90 mins. I'd go as far as to say the better of the 3 were Matty James. He had everything pace power strength. He scored 15-20 goals a season and all of a sudden things changed. It seemed as though fergie was trying to nurture another carrick out of him. He started playing the holding role, doing the dirty work. I'd say give him a free er role and to will start to see more goals from him. His ability is definatly premiership level. And let's not forget it's only his 2nd season at the KP!

Bayfox Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Still think who ever plays alongside james looks a better player. king and james at back end of last season helped turn the form round just in time. dd and james in form at the minute. Coincidence?

Unabomber Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 I wish James would hurry up and score a screamer, Friday would be good.
Guest Col city fan Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Ive stated my opinion on King for quite a few seasons. I believe he's the weak link in a 4-4-2, despite being an accomplished footballer. Why? He's too lighweight. He's not quick, he's not strong and he gets muscled out too often. Its no coincidence IMO that we look more in control of football matches with a midfield pairing of James and Drinkwater. Of course, the fans of King have argued with me over this for ages. But I think I'm right on this. In a midfield THREE... King is fine. He then has the time to do what he does best.
gazfox9 Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Don't know how anybody could go for King, unless James shagged their missus. No disrespect to King, but James is just twice the footballer he will ever be. Thats a ridiculous quote. James is simply playing better than King atm. I prefer King as a player, right now tho James is in the side on merit and certainly deserves his place.

I think whenever I've seen King in a three this season he has played much better than in just a two. I see him on the ball far more often and is more of a focus of our attacks. I feel in a two he has too many defensive duties. He's not the strongest or quickest but I still feel he is very good at defensive cover rather than just pure tackling and strength. He reads the game very well
jh95 Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 James for me. King does a lot of unnoticed work but James is one of the best CM's in this league in my opinion. Class player. One of the ones who could definitely make the step up.
Grewks Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Drinkwater is our best midfielder. He performs better with James than King, so for me it is a no brainer. What i will say about James is that he only improves the amount of consecutive games he plays. Lose him for 4 or 5 matches and he will be fairly average once back in the eleven.
dmayne7 Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Short-term James alongside Drinkwater Long-term James alongside King. I think this has been King's quietest season and Drinkwater has been fantastic but King still has a mental side of the game that is second to none. That's what makes him as good as there is at this level. James is a very rounded player and whilst King and him can be a little too similar they can fulfil different role to compliment each other. I still have some concerns over Drinkwater in the long-term as he seems to panic and struggle when things don't go our way but he's got to be one of (if not) the first names on the team sheet at the moment. Is there a team in the league with a better midfield than us? Don't think so.
Guest ttfn Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 I bet if you held this poll again in 8 weeks' time, King would be ahead. James is in the side at the moment and playing well, but King has been a routinely good performer for this club for six years now. He'll be back in in no time.
