Soar Fox Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 Can't be any worse than what Oadby and Wigston Council have done to the A5199 roundabout next to McDonald's (Leicester Rd/Bull Head St crossing Wakes Rd/Oadby Rd). No idea what they were thinking with the traffic lights, takes 2-3 changes of lights to get round sometimes, but as a roundabout the traffic flowed fine. Same as Lutterworth Road with the bus lane heading towards town. It's caused more problems now than it ever did before and even then you didn't have much traffic on that road. It's just Soulsby wanting people to use the buses more.

What on earth this roundabout which has stood for years untouched needs lights on it I have no idea, the traffic is awful at peak times now. If they wanted to slow it down then they should just have replaced the old sight-screens so you couldn't see if it was clear or not. I know wigston isn't part of the city but I'm sure this is all part of Soulsbys plan to make the city traffic free. It's like slimming Newark Street down to two lanes and extending New Walk to the Uni. All done to benefit the bloody students that don't even live here and will fvck off after 3 years anyway.
Dr The Singh Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 I'd hire a Land Rover and get it pulled down pdq, Singhy. These will be the last two weeks you'll be able to get away quickly. Naa!! That hindu charity will just waste another £20k for another one. I was thinking of putting a statue of Jimmy Saville next to it. Why? If you didn't already know both are paedo's, Gandhi used to get his under age niece to lie naked on top of him to test his abstainance of sex, it's fair to say he failed!!! Biggest myth on the planet in history = Gandhi, but Indian's and 'Indian's' on this site tend to sweep such truths under the carpet.
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 Eyesore but can't help thinking that the new roundabout will be carnage during rush hour.
Buzzell Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 What a waste of time! Can't see the benefits of this whatsoever.

fuchsntf Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 It served its function but it's had its day. Anybody remember using Belgrave Road Station for Skeggy and all points east? Happy days. Yes my first train trip was from there. I am not sure, but I believe it was to Gt Yarmouth. Plus we picked up a Travelbus a couple of years later for the Blackpool lumis. My granma used to live st 8 melton road, opposite norths toys and model shop. It had a modeltrain set up in its windows, and you could push a button outside, to see it work. If you can go back that far what about going to nottingham from central station opposite Sanveygate They were my young naive and innocent childhood days. Middle 50s end 60s.
Zingari Posted 21 January 2014 Posted 21 January 2014 i wonder if they'll put the paddling pool and fountain back for the kiddies to play in .
Alexikokopops Posted 21 January 2014 Posted 21 January 2014 Used to enjoying going over Belgrave Flyover as it looked over Childrens World. RIP, we will miss you. x Damn right. The gateway to Leicester from home in Lincolnshire. Once my parent's stopped off at Children's World. They didn't buy me anything but I think I'd be lying if I said my life didn't peak at that point.

Southgates near The Shakespeare's Head is similar as well. No reason for it not to be two lanes but instead it's one with a pavement the width of two lanes. All it does is make queues stretch further back along the road.

davieG Posted 30 January 2014 Author Posted 30 January 2014 Court may review the demolition of Belgrave flyoverRead more: http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/Court-review-demolition-flyover/story-20525730-detail/story.html#ixzz2rsFdK2Ie A group of businesses and residents say they are considering seeking a judicial review over the decision to demolish Belgrave flyover. A petition with 253 signatures was handed to Leicester City Council yesterday objecting to the dismantling of the structure. The flyover is due to be closed to traffic at midnight tomorrow so preparation work can be done for the demolition. Belgrave businessman Jayesh Mistry, who collected the signatures, said the scheme was being pushed through without adequate public consultation and transparency. RELATED ARTICLES Fred Leicester: Piling on pain for motorists as doomed Belgrave flyover bites the dust Plan to demolish Belgrave flyover is a 'scandal' and 'a big mistake' - public has its say Belgrave flyover demolition: Chance to ask questions at public event Drivers facing chaos as Leicester's Belgrave flyover is demolished He said many residents believed the flyover, which carries 34,000 vehicles a day, was essential to keep the traffic flowing and they feared the roundabout below would be unable to cope with the traffic when it is gone. Mr Mistry said: "We are talking to lawyers in the next few days about a judicial review. "We would like the demolition to be put on hold. "The consultation was far too short to be meaningful. "Sir Peter Soulsby says businesses are behind this. That is not the case." Mayor Sir Peter said: "We have worked very closely with Belgrave businesses over the past two years and the overwhelming view coming back is they want the flyover to come down as soon as possible. "We have been transparent and open throughout." A short consultation on options for how the flyover will be demolished ended at 5pm yesterday. The programme of demolition work and any road closures will be announced tomorrow. Options for nine-week and 14-week work programmes have been outlined. Demolition is due to start on February 15. hairy Posted 30 January 2014 Posted 30 January 2014 It will fall down by itself by the time its been through the courts. Maybe we should Richard III under it to bring that case to an end at the same time.
Sparky Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 If this is as successful as Soulsby's plan with Newark Street then I better start getting up an hour early to go to work. The City is a nightmare for traffic and he is making it worse
DennisNedry Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 i wonder if they'll put the paddling pool and fountain back for the kiddies to play in . It's a different world to now isn't it? I'd have loved to have lived in those days.
Tincy Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 I hope this doesn't affect the 54 bus as I use that bus to get to work?
Vacamion Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 It's a different world to now isn't it? I'd have loved to have lived in those days. Yeah, I used to love it when my Mam took her trousers and pants off and went out to the local "roundabout paddling pool", dragging my Dad on his hands and knees on a doglead. They were magical times...
