There's a lot of people getting way ahead of themselves

Last season we took 15 points from the last 17 games.  I don't think many people saw it coming then, just like no one seems to now.

Hopefully the players and management have learned from last season's run in, but if we were to repeat that again, there is hardly any chance we will finish in the top two.  Even with the points we now have.

I'm taking each game as it comes, and so far loving the vast majority of them.

Come on lads, keep up the good work!

Interestingly (to me anyway), we took 24 points from our last 20 games last season.  Were we to do that this season we would end up with 81 points.

That would have actually got us 2nd place last season, although I think this season we will need closer to 90.

02/02/13

1 Cardiff City 29 63

2 Leicester City 29 53

...

11 Nottingham Forest 30 41

27/04/13

6 Bolton Wanderers 45 67

7 Nottingham Forest 45 67

8 Leicester City 45 65

12 points from 16 games!

We are obviously more than capable of completely screwing it up from here.

The championship is a lot tighter this season than last year. If we had the same amount of points we have now at this stage last year we would be 10 points clear of 3rd.

Every season is different in the championship and people say 9 more wins might do it but I doubt it will.

Also Alan Young saying that yesterday was ridiculous and unnecessary. Has any team ever gone 20 games unbeaten in the championship?

If he's correct then we'll have gone 27 games unbeaten. No chance of that.

We are the Arsenal of the championship....we are going 27 games unbeaten,

If not then...26...or 23...or 20....or 15...or 10...or just one, but we are going to take topspot...

Or 2nd....or 3rd...or maybe 6th...or not.

9 wins are all what's needed.

OK. We'll remember this come May 4th and see if 86 points gets you promoted. Because I'm not convinced it will.

9 wins would get us 84. I think 88 will do it.

I don't see Burnley getting 37, Derby getting 41 or Forest 44 from their last 20 games. AND QPR would have to get 36 (which I would say is probable).

As a guide, last season nobody got more than 36 points from the final 20 games of the season.

Last season was a total freak end of season when nearly everyone at the top bar Cardiff fell out of form.

84 points won't be enough this season if you ask me. Am I right in saying there are still three sides on course for over 90?

We are the only side on course for 90 points

Leicester City - 90 points

QPR - 84 points

Burnley - 81 points

Hence why I said 84 points would be enough for automatic promotion, so 9 wins, I would be surprised if we need more than 9 wins to seal automatic promotion.

You are.

I just think both Burnley and QPR would have to have strong finishes to the season (not freakishly strong, but strong) for 88 not to be enough.

I think that's unlikely personally and whilst I don't think for a second that last year's 79 will be enough I can't see anybody getting 88 and not going up.

79 was unreal wasn't it? That Hull side really was nothing special and look at them now! We could average relegation form for the rest of the season and still beat that total.

Funny old game.

Statto's formula is more complex than the traditionally understood meaning of "on course".

O Ye of little faith! Doubting Thomas's.

The simple fact is that next season we WILL be playing in the Premier League! Alan Young actually said that he couldn't see us getting beaten. He didn't say we would win every game. I think that was fair comment and everyone is entitled to their opinion!

If by some staggering chance we did so, we would finish with 120 points. An alternative scenario - that we won all our remaining home games and were beaten in every single 'away' game, we would have 84 points. In reality, we will finish somewhere in between. Only West Ham in recent seasons have failed to be promoted automatically with more points that that - 86!

In the 1979/80 season - when Alan Young was an ever-present in that promotion winning team - and he was our top scorer with 14 goals, we were never out of the top six.

Throughout the season, we only scored 4 goals on only one solitary occasion, and that was very early in the season - AWAY to QPR!!!!!

AND we scored three goals on only three occasions!!!!

At New Year we had 2 home games: 30th December, we beat.......QPR 2-0 and on New Year's Day we beat Bristol Rovers 3-0, After that we were beaten on three occasions in our remaining fixtures.

On the face of it, it would appear to have been a fairly mediocre season. We were promoted as Champions..........and we were promptly relegated the following season.

The win at Leeds underlined the character and determination of our present squad. If you are a passionate Foxes fan who wears their heart on their sleeve, you know we are going up. The glass is already half full - we are already half way there. However, if you are a level-headed regular observer of the Foxes, then the glass is half empty and furthermore predict that there is a drought on the way, then I feel sorry for you because in my opinion, you are missing out on the excitement and fun sharing in the success of possibly the best footballing Leicester City side since the 60's and particularly the side that drew with Atletico Madrid in 1961 - yes I did say 1961 - October 25th to be precise!

I've just listened to Radio Leicester post match and I was shocked to hear Alan Young state that and I quote "We wont get beaten for the rest of the season".

Now we are in a splendid run of form and fortune that even allows us to pinch all 3 points from a match like today.

But I cant help feeling there is a growing number getting a little ahead of themselves.

Despite our run we could still only 4 points clear come this evening, and with 20 games still left to play this season if the players adopt the attitude that we are up or have the right to go up then we are for want of a better word..... ****ed.

I know Nigel is the most level headed of guys and he will certainly do his best to keep everyone grounded, but I would remind everyone at our position not so far off this time last season and what happened.

Yes there is cause to be positive but it has to be measured with a level of reality and commitment to continue the job in the same vein and not get carried away.

Just imagine what this forum would look like if we lost a few..... PANIC!

Lets just keep our expectations in perspective and our support for the team in focus to ensure we carry on in this same fine form.

Sorry who are you :P

Just wow at tonights phone-in. That was a whole new level of getting carried away. Thankfully it was mainly only Stringer & Young but you'd literally think we'd gone up.

I maybe the eternal pessimist and never think we're going to win even when we're winning but I'm loving this season and the football we're playing it's been the most enjoyable, satisfying value for money season for me since MON left.

Without a doubt. Excellent season so far but the key words are 'so far'.

Well you can only judge it and react on 'so far' because the rest doesn't exist worrying about it, and I used to gets you nowhere enjoy the moment and let the rest of the season take care of itself.

Burnley will not do better than Leicester from here on out.  They have only won 4 of 14.  They are riding a streak from earlier in the year.  QPR will continue to be consistent, but they are more likely to fall apart than Leicester in my book, because of the pressure of their big money squad.  If someone else from the pack goes on a real tear then they could make a charge, but it would have to be some kind of run of good form.

I for one would like to see Leicester, Forest, and Derby go up.  Talk about making a statement about East Midlands football! And some good PL derbies would be cool!

I'll start to get carried away when we only need 1 point to make sure of going up.

And if we only have 1 game left I won't get carried away at all.

I may start to crack a smile if we get 10 to 15pts clear though.

We are all getting carried away. This time last year we were second in the table on course for auto promotion. Look what happened in Feb, March and April! I am still taking one game at a time because facts are in January we have achieved the root of naff all in relation to achieving promotion.

I will get excited in May if we still are in the top two.

That will be too late. :D We will be promoted before then. :scarf::pearson::wub:
