I got the game when it was first released and I am pretty sure I took it back to GAME to trade it in the same weekend

Yeah just looked, it was released on 10th August 2016 which is when I got my first trophy on PS4 for it

My last trophy (I got 3 total) was on 11th August 2016 lol

I bought it digitally on release and it was pretty awful. They ****ed it massively hyping up like they did. It just couldn't live up to the expectations.

Don't get me wrong there's quite a bit of jank there too still, but in kind of an endearing way. There's enough content here to fill many, many hours... But at the same time some people will get instantly bored with it.

It's still probably not for everyone, but considering it's such a small studio, they've done a great job making it into something that feels like what they set out to make in the first place.

Piggybacking off this thread to ask... does anyone have one of those cracked GBA style handhelds that have loads of games pre-installed on them?

Love retro games and i'm considering buying one to play old GBA games whenever I have a minute to myself and was wondering if they're any good?

6 years late to this but I’ve started Death Stranding with a view to getting this tucked away and doing number 2.

I’m a good few hours in…I’m not sure if this is enjoyable or if it’s supposed to be enjoyable or what? The landscape looks lovely and the movement mechanics are interesting enough but…when is this supposed to be enjoyable?

I saw a lot of the memes about it being a delivery simulator and laughed along. I presumed that there was something behind all that outside of nicely rendered landscapes and realistic looking stumbles.

When will this get good? Or is it a rubbish job throughout.

It does actually become a game with after chapter 3.  I enjoyed it but can see why people might be bored by it all.

Mixtape.

Another masterpiece published by Annapurna. This is pure cinema and the soundtrack... Wow.

Enjoyed it for what it is, it’s a shame it’s not more playable though.

Just download an emulator on your phone. Takes seconds. Then just download the individual Roms. Very quick and easy.

I see GOG have a Square Enix sale going on.

I'm ashamed to say I've never played any of the FF games.
I seem to recall FF7 being one of the landmark games, but if I was to try one of them, which would the folk in here recommend?

7 and 10 are probably your best entry points IMO.

in terms of 7, I’d play the remakes over the original, thought that’d be sacrilege to some. Depends what you’re after.

Just finished HZD: Remastered and the platinum run for a second time.

Although 9 years have passed since I went through it the first time, the story and lore of this game remains unmatched imo.  Expedition 33 runs it close though...lol

Tempted by the new James Bond game. The only downside to it that I’ve read is the story is very short, something like 20 hours long. Other than that it looks great.

Am a big fan of old school Legend of Zelda (Link to the Past) and the Mana games (Secret of Mana and Trials of Mana). Haven't tried Visions of Mana yet, although that's on my to do as well.

Loved the music, the flavor/art, the story and even the mechanics, even though it felt janky at times.

I think I tried one of the older Final Fantasy SNES games briefly with turnbased combat, which looked fun.

Guess I'm looking to capture a bit of the zeitgeist and what made those games so beloved and special.

yea, it's built around mission replay for different challenges and the tacsim mode for longevity rather than the story, but the gameplay is good.

Yeh very Hitman like then, which is good for me because I loved the Hitman franchise.

it's not, but also you can see a lot that they've taken from hitman and tweaked slightly. definitely rebalanced more towards combat than stealth, in hitman the combat is very very clunky, this feels pretty smooth. It's a distinct game rather than Agent 0047 but if you've played a lot of hitman this will feel familiar at least

Ohh I watched some gameplay reviews and people were comparing it to Hitman.

Just finished 007 First Light and I have to say they certainly got the James Bond-esque style and feel spot on with it

Early in the game but even just the title drop made you feel like you were watching a film the quality and effort with it was that high

Personally I have never really been a fan of stealth games which is why I never really played Hitman but I feel like they got it spot on with this and how if you want to can just go all out combat with it (which I definitely needed to do often as my stealth sucks haha)

Hopefully they bring out some more DLC/Content for this, they could definitely get a good games series going with this

I have even started re-watching the Bond films again after I started playing this

Patrick Gibson is a brilliant young Bond, just give him the job for the movie as well haha

yeah for sure there are hitman elements, and where hitman is all about not getting caught, bond lets you adapt and go loud like bond would, and it works very well. the game is excellent and i really enjoyed it, however ,where it falls down for me is replayability, the tacsim mode is incomplete and just a series of short challenges in small areas of the maps, no alternative routes and different ways to do things which i was really hoping for. bond is its own game with hitman influences, just do go into thinking its a hitman game in a bond skin because it that what i did and was left a little disappointed as a result.

As a Final Fantasy lover i will chime in.

It really comes down to what you are prepared to play. The older 2D FF games are decent. FF6 Story is very good. But i find that when i talk to someone much younger than me (im assuming you are younger then me) they just cant seem to give a game like it the time it needs and deserves. Its just an instant 'graphics are terrible' and bin it.

FF7 was the first leap to 3D. I must say i hugely disagree with Libertine. You HAVE to play the original first. But that's because i have the nostalgia of playing the original when it first released. So i can play the latest FF7 games with a whole different lens and appreciation for what they have done with it. Perhaps its different if you have never played the original. Even so to play the FF series and not play FF7 original would just be a real shame.

FF8 and FF9 are both brilliant

But overall i would have to agree with Legend in Blue and go with FFX as a starting point. Easy game mechanics, brilliant story with no overly complicated levelling system with the Spheregrid. Also Blitzball is great.

After FFX i would go into 7, 8, 9 and 12. Then if you have a real love for FF games then go for the older ones.

FF13 i havent played in a very long time but all i can remember about it was how linear it was, something i didnt really enjoy. FF15 and FF16 are both decent but i still find the older games better.

7, 8, 9 and 10 are the pinnacle for me
