Which players of the current squad will be moved-on if we get promotion?

I was thinking after Saturday's game, should we get promoted (which looks very likely now), which players in the current squad won't be with us at the start of next season?

I won't be surprised if we offload GTF, and I wonder if Pearson will look to sell Chris Wood and Lloyd Dyer? Of course, Futacs, Gally and the like won't be needed.

I would suggest that many of the current first-team squad won't leave? And I think Phillips may well stay as a player/coach.

Opinions please.

Whilst accepting that you pose a valid question and understanding that the management will already be planning ahead for next season can't we just let the players enjoy the moment without telling them that some of them aren't good enough?

I thought the fact that Wood was left on the bench when we were chasing a result was telling. He's first off the bench when we're 2 or 3 nil up... Wouldn't be at all surprised if we sold...

Dyer will, and should be retained for next year as an impact substitute...

Don't think GTF will get another year if the clause in his contract isn't hit (another year if he plays a certain number of games?) and I'd be surprised if Hammond and Phillips are members of the playing staff next year...I'd offload Konchesky as well.

Hammond, Phillips and GTF will go, Phillips I reckon will stay on as a coach, Konchesky is staying for his experience.

Not sure about Wood, seems very odd he doesn't play all that much, Logan will be replaced by a better keeper.

No offence meant buddy. Nige will be the only one who decides, of course.

I'm just speculating how our squad may look come next season, in terms of the personnel we have now.

Col is Mahrez still on your 'maybe' list?? :)

I think Dyer will stay as he's a good and loyal squad player.

Agree that Chris Wood may be the biggest casualty. But think Pearson will keep most of the squad together. Our squad picks itself at the moment.

Here's one to put out there: What about Troy Deeney as a signing to replace Wood?? Strength is one thing that our front partnership lacks... He'd add an extra dimension that we currently don't have.

Could we forgive him for THAT goal!

I think Phillips will have his arm twisted into one last hurrah, personally!

He keeps saying ' never say never' when talking about retiring at the end of the year!

We'll definitely keep him on in a coaching capacity though no matter what.

Super Kev needs to be kept in the squad, if he plays for us after April 16th 2014 he will be the oldest outfield player ever in history in the top flight (Teddy Sheringham current 40 years 272 days).

BTW Let noone go from current playing squad and add half a dozen good backups in all areas of the field.

I think Wood could be the biggest casualty. Think his first touch will be a serious flaw in the prem.

Wood is a difficult one to call.  Unlike most of the other players in the first team squad, he does not have the body language to suggest he's up for the fight.  He comes across too laid back and seems reluctant to use his physical presence.  But then again, when he scored against Charlton I liked the way he celebrated the goal, seemed to really mean a lot to him.

Last season we were a poorer team with him in the starting line up, aside from the first few games after he signed when team confidence was already sky high and he was rolling on the back of that.  Once he settled in the squad, we started trying to use him as a target man once we fell a goal behind in games, but he looked really awkward in that position and his first touch/strength in the air were exposed.  That really surprised me as the game we played at Millwall last season, they used him as a target man and he looked exceptional.

I also didn't like that period when he kept fighting with Nuge to take penalties and then sulking when Nuge wouldn't give him the ball.

In summary, I can't figure Wood out.  Maybe its a confidence thing given he's struggled to hold down a first team place this season.  Hard to believe he is still only 22.

Hopefully Phillips will be retained in some form of coaching role.

I would love Phillips to be retained in a coaching role but I fear that he may be offered a full time pundit position by Skysports or one of the other channels, as he seems to appear quite regularly at the moment .Or better still he could combine player coach and pundit ?

I think GTF is only 4 games off a contract extension.

I believe it's six.

I saw an interview with him last week saying he needed 7 and then he came on against Blackpool.

However not sure when that interview was, but I'm pretty sure it was quite recent.

He mentioned on his twitter the other day that he is now a fully qualified Uefa B Coach so he might hang his boots up at the end of the season and go into coaching somewhere.

Either way, he's shown that he has been a good temporary signing and I'm sure his and Phillips experience has helped the younger members of the squad around the training ground.

Futcas, Gally, Waghorn, Whitbread, Dannes and St Ledger can all go, everyone else who has made a contribution to our amazing season hopefully will be here next season. Although appearances will be limited for some.

Or am I being sentimental?

I agree tbh, think as the squad is already small they will be kept the  likes of Hammond, GTF but maybe not Phillips and will push on in January. If not for their football skills it will keep the camaraderie and team spirit alive in training etc. to begin the new season in the prem

KP said when he came here that one reason was that Pearson had indicated a coaching role for him next season, maybe as player-coach. Personally, if we go up, I'd love him to be there using his knowhow - and if we do OK, I would love him to come on right at the end of the season to have a five-minute cameo and be the oldest player ever to play in the Prem, and for us.

I think Wood is likely to be the biggest name to go, if only because he doesn't seem to have the fire in his belly that the rest of the squad have. I think GTF might be worth keeping for another season, because his vision and touch are still good, and he's only 32, and likewise, Lloyd Dyer is worth having as an impact sub - although I think he might fancy stepping down a couple of divisions.

One thing is certain: we have a hell of a core squad to take up (if we get promoted that is).

No worries, I'm not offended.

Just felt a little sorry for those who are thinking about ordering the new Bentley Convertible for the summer only to realise that the consensus among the fans is that they might be just about good enough for the Colchester first XI and a Robin Reliant.

Deeney is the exact kind of character Pearson wouldn't want in the dressing room.

Really and what type of characters is that? Role model pro for the last 18months.

It'd be a big mistake to sell Wood if you ask me, solid player, 22 years of age, on form can score for fun. We should be retaining him Vardy and Nugent and making a big money signing to compete for places, Waghorn, GTF, Gally would be better off elsewhere (retirement in GTF case) I'd actually consider keeping Phillips around in a playing capacity, I doubt he'd make many apperances but he's a good option.

Midfield/Defence I'd keep everyone who's getting a regular start in the squad and add another 1/2 players to both departments to add proper competition and depth (we have a little now but not enough) Miquel will go back to Arsenal, I doubt any one will want to pay money for Hammond but I can't see him getting a kick next season, What happens with Andy King will be interesting.

Kaspers good enough to keep goal.

I think it's more about where can NP strengthen the current squad, can't see him splashing the big money, even if it is available, he obviously has his list of wants but even players on this list must come at the right price and right wages, only when he knows he has strenthened the squad will he let anyone go. If he rates Wood as his 4th choice he must get another 1/2 in before letting him go. Obviously any player out of contract can take that decision away from NP.

Think Phillips will stay and even GTF & Hammond, good premier league experience and if we settle down after a couple of matches maybe even loan them out.

That must mean he only has 3 appearances here from now till season's end then.

I would hope that we make 5 or 6 sognings that demote our present first teamers to backups. We certainly shouldn't be relying on this squad to keep us in the Prem next year.

Mahrez and Knocky look okay for the prem

James and Drinks look okay for the prem

Kasper, James, Morgan, De Laet and Schlupp  are probably alright but I wouldn't be against an upgrade

Vardy maybe but if he is in the first team then we need a killer striker to be alongside him.

Nuge, Dyer, King, Wasyl all should become squad rotation players or if considered too old let go.

Wood has been injured this year so I can understand the reluctance to play him. We'll probably see him in the last few games and he's certainly a keeper for the squad.

Konch is only a backup player now (if that in the prem).

I think it dépends heavily on who we can sign.

My first choice is a killer striker to feed off our midfield and wing play.
