Blackburn away - Player ratings.

Schmeichel - 7 - Made some important saves.

De Laet - 5 - Was having a good game until his mistake for the corner, he went downhill from that.

Morgan - 6 - Dealt with Rhodes fairly well.

Wasilewski - 7 - Another commanding performance. One of our better players.

Schlupp - 8 - Definitely a left back/winger. Played superbly and his crosses were magnificent.

Knockaert - 6 - Started well, faded.

James - 7 - Standard Matty James performance. Energetic and he won the ball back on numerous occaisions.

Drinkwater - 6 - Gave the ball away too much but still wanted to create. Didn't work for him today.

Mahrez - 7 - First half a 9, second half a 5.

Nugent - 5 - Worked hard but didn't do a lot.

Vardy - 6 - Scored but he should have had a hat trick. We all know Vardy isn't going to be a goal machine though. He has other qualities.

Schmeichel - 7 - Dealt with crosses well, had good success bowling the ball out in the first half.

De Laet - 4 - For the first forty, looked his usual solid, energetic self. Good assist for our goal, didn't look at all confident once he'd made that mistake.

Morgan - 7 - Standard Wes.

Wasilewski - 7.5 - Tank.

Schlupp - 8.5 - Absolutely brilliant, I can only recall one lapse and one misplaced pass. Offers so much more going forward than Konch and looks to have ironed out the flaws in his positional play for the most part. The left back berth really is his to lose now.

Knockaert - 6 - Bright in spells, love the interchanges with Mahrez, caused them all kinds of trouble in the first period.

James - 6.5 - Busy. Set-pieces not on the money today, mind.

Drinkwater - 6.5 - See James, kept the ball to his usual standards without creating in the same vein he has been.

Mahrez - 7.5 - First half excellent, fluttered in and out of the game in the second but I think that was down to our play more than a lack of effort on his part.

Nugent - 5 - Not for him, today.

Vardy - 6.5 - Great energy and a real asset for us on the counter, unfortunately missed a couple of gilt-edged chances.

Kasper 7 - Made some good saves.

RDL 4 - Had a stinker. His back pass which he tried being clever with lead to the corner they scored from.

Schlupp 7 - Another quality display. Was good going forward.

Wasyl 6 - Did fine. Nothing bad but nothing fantastic.

Morgan 7 - Did well against Gestede and Rhodes.

Mahrez 8 - Our top man for me. An absolute steal at £400k. Fantastic pass through which created the chance for RDL (I think) to set Vardy up.

Knocky 5 - Had little impact on the game. One fantastic piece of skill but that was it.

James 6 - Started off ok but as the game went on he seemed to tire.

Drinky 6 - Wasn't at the races first half but played well in the second half.

Nugent 5 - Wasn't his day. Nothing went for him.

Vardy 6 - Right place at the right time for the goal, should've scored at least one more when hitting the post. Pitch didn't help him today, hard to get the ball under control.

Hammond 7 - Tightened the game up when he came on and was no coincidence that we had our best spell of the second half when he came on to keep it tight in the middle.

Moore 6 - Did alright, nice to see him back on the pitch.

King 5 - Didn't do anything.

Pretty much agree but can only assume you were asleep or not watching the whole first half if you can only remember one misplaced pass from Schlupp. I can recall 4 or 5 in the first 20 minutes alone.

After that he was gravy though, our biggest threat. Him an Mahrez are a naughty combo.

De Laet - 5

Morgan - 7

Wasilewski - 7

Knockaert - 7

James - 7

Agree that Schlupp started badly but ended up having a good game; might have been our best player.

I wasn't as sure as Bert about Mahrez, but thought he and James were just about the pick of a below par midfield.

And those who said De Laet started well - about a minute before the corner incident we were talking about how badly he was playing. So, assist aside, I'm not sure where that's come from.

But overall a very respectable result. We need to make sure that Blackburn don't provide the blueprint for other sides to get at City (i.e. go direct into the box, work hard on set piece routines), but I felt we adjusted in the last 20 minutes and could have won. And yeah, time we sorted our set pieces out. For me it's the routine that's wrong - James, Waghorn, Knockaert all set up goals from corners when they were new to the club, and the closest we came today from a corner was from one of Mahrez's deliveries. So if players deliver their best corners when they're green, it would suggest it's not down to the individual, but rather the routine.

Again agree with berts ratings barring nugent, I have rated the bloke and defended him, but 5 is an average rating, but his performance was shocking, and should have been took off, I would rate him a 3 at best.

Schmeichel 7 - Did fine, a couple of good saves (one of which from Gestede at the end was definitely for the cameras!)

De Laet 5 - Was probably an "8" for most of the first half and then completely lost it after his backpass and looked completely shell-shocked.

Morgan 7 - Did fine

Wasilewski 7 - As Morgan. Disappointed with his use of the ball today, because his distribution from defence has been excellent in recent weeks and it wasn't today.

Schlupp 7 - Good going forward, less so defensively.

Knockaert 6 - Not his day, again. Perhaps could do with a rest on Tuesday.

James 6 - Pretty ineffectual.

Drinkwater 7 - Had a poor start to both halves but was instrumental in us getting back into the game in the second half.

Mahrez 7.5 - Decent first half and looked our most dangerous attacker in the second but wasted a collection of good opportunities by hesitating when presented with good shooting chances.

Nugent 5 - Very poor in the second half, typifying our lacklustre approach and had we not needed Hammond and Moore on would surely have been substituted. Great shot in the first half well saved which led indirectly to the goal.

Vardy 6.5 - Worked hard as usual but was clearly concerned by the prospect of a ban as there was less harrying of the centre backs than usual. Seemed to be unwilling to shoot today when he'd worked himself into decent positions, which was disappointing.

subs:

Hammond 7.5 - We really got a grip on the game when he came on. Positionally and tactically he was spot on.

Moore 7 - Did fine.

King 6 - Looked to be lacking match sharpness. Missed a quarter-chance near the end from a corner - really we could have done with one of the Drinkwater/Mahrez/Vardy chances falling to him (although he might have had to have been on the pitch first!)

Nugent's had a fairly poor season to be honest, he has had a few excellent games thrown it, but time and time again he has been guilty of missing countless chances where he should score.

Posted

Nugent has a lot of 5/10 games at the moment. I can see him being released in the summer if we actually manage to go up. Playing with a smile on his face is not enough. Lets hope we don't get any more penalties this season, unless he's off the pitch.

Nugent was poor today but has been a decisive figure in a number of our key games this season.

Kasper - 5 - Did well. Got too involved with the officials.

RDL - 4 - Good assist. Awful defending and at fault for the goal.

Wasyl - 6 - Good defence. His distribution is grating on me, always looks for the Hollywood ball...

Morgan - 6 - Good defence.

Schlupp - 8 - MOTM, best attacking performance Ive seen from him. Solid.

Knocky - 7 - Great interchanging as usual. Stop passing to him in the second half.

Drinkwater - 6.5 - Decent. Set a high standard this year.

James - 6.5 - Similar to Drinky.

Mahrez - 7.5 - First half 9, second half 6. Great talent.

Vardy - 6 - Should have had a hat-trick, looked lethargic.

Nugent - 4 - Offered nothing. How he stayed on...

Subs:

Moore - 6 - Steadied us.

Hammond - 6 - Steadied us.

King - 6 - Thought he was good when he came on.

Two points lost.

People saying that Nugent worked hard yesterday, i dont know if it is just me but i thought he was a complete lazy git, and so did most of the crowd. The sprint to the ball with the defender comes to the mind, if he had got there first he would of been 1v1 with the keeper but instead he jogged to it and let the defender get there first.

After a particularly bad first thirty minutes where he was all over the place, Schlup came good with superb attacking intent. Mahrez was also excellent most of the game, superb ball control and great vision. Actually disagree with most on here who claim Morgan had normal solid game: was beaten in the air a lot. Nugent had a very bad game: strikers not known for their bravery I accept, but bottling out of 60/40 tackles in your favour simply not acceptable. Vardy did okay for me, obvious sitter excepted, was our main threat and only got caught offside a couple of times.

For me, I just don't think he's either fit enough or consistent enough for Pearson's non-rotating system. I like that we play with a settled side but sometimes I think he could do wit being rested.

Lloyd is another that's similar.

Many give Nuge stick, but his link up play with midfield is one of the reasons for our success. The bloke could also be getting somewhat tired with no rests this season. I'd be tempted to play GTF against Yeovil and give Nuge a deserved break. Bring him back for Burnley, as this is another side he normally scores against.

And those who said De Laet started well - about a minute before the corner incident we were talking about how badly he was playing. So, assist aside, I'm not sure where that's come from.

Until his mistake I can't recall him really putting a foot wrong. As I said, for the first forty I thought he was doing a decent job.

Schmeichel - 7. Made some good saves but we haven't been good at defending set pieces ever since he's been here.

De Laet - 5. I'll give him a five for his assist but it all went pear shaped in the 42nd minute for him and he was rightly subbed.

Morgan - 7. Didn't see too much wrong from him today.

Wasilewski - 6. He's had better games. Turned too easily a couple of times.

Schlupp - 8. He's winning me over by the game and fair play to him too. Quality effort from him.

Knockaert - 5. Anonymous for the most part.

James - 7. Standard James.

Drinkwater - 7. Impressed me considering he was shifted out wide at one point as well.

Mahrez - 7. In the first half I was smiling to myself thinking... how on earth have we landed this lad so cheap. Went a bit quiet second half though. Played a key part in our goal.

Nugent - 5. Not good enough although the criticism of him is getting a bit boring. He's been a lot better recently IMO. Only Leicester fans could vilify our top scorer/assister when we're top of the league. He's had a few games this season of being pretty useless (yesterday one of them) but he's not a bad player at all. You don't get an assists record like his by being shit.

Vardy - 7. It's annoying that he gets a 7 as he could've quite easily ended up with a 9 or 10 yesterday. Not good enough in the final third but still our main threat.

Subs;

Hammond - 6. Unfashionable player but I noticed an improvement with him on the pitch.

King - N/A

Moore - 6. Steady. Better than De Laet, though that wasn't hard.
