Thefoxman Posted 25 March 2014 Posted 25 March 2014 Had a debate at work today about city and how big a club they are....a bloke I work with says there maybe the 30th biggest club in england however being a massive city fan myself I thought around 22nd. http://thechriswhitingshow.wordpress.com/2013/07/29/english-footballs-biggest-clubs-revealed/ Not bad I think and hopefully bigger things to come. COYB! Were would you have city seriously?
Jon the Hat Posted 25 March 2014 Posted 25 March 2014 Defintately the biggest round ball football club in Leicester.
Jon the Hat Posted 25 March 2014 Posted 25 March 2014 Wigan are punching well above their weight hey!
cuddly ken Posted 25 March 2014 Posted 25 March 2014 It's more about which clubs have owners with big money to spend these days, as opposed to traditional big clubs. Villa, Newcastle, Leeds got example are big clubs but don't have millions to spend. Could we be successful like the likes of Man City or Chelsea who like ourselves have never been traditional big clubs. Or will we just flirt with the odd success and then return to our usual mediocrity?
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 25 March 2014 Posted 25 March 2014 I think we are the equivalent of a man with a tiny willy and massive balls. By that I mean we're not that big but we're pwetty big Close D'fwed!!
BrummieFOX Posted 25 March 2014 Posted 25 March 2014 I think it's pretty subjective and that in the grand scheme of things means nothing. What matters is your own expectations of what your clubs ambitions should be/where they should finish and what league they are competing in.
BrummieFOX Posted 25 March 2014 Posted 25 March 2014 ..and yea that blog which attempts to identify the biggest team in a league table is hugely flawed, but quite a fun read.
Fox Ulike Posted 25 March 2014 Posted 25 March 2014 Interesting survey… For me though, the size of a club depends solely on fanbase. Not success. In this list Preston are a ‘bigger’ club than Southampton – due to their league success 125 years ago. And just because Jack Walker bought Blackburn the Premiership title a few years back certainly doesn’t make them bigger than West ham. Would be interested to see a list based only on average attendances over the years. Surely this is what defines a ‘big’ club? The fans…

No-one is trying to convince me they're bigger than us.
Kitchandro Posted 25 March 2014 Posted 25 March 2014 Anyone who doesn't put is in the top 20 is a retard. We're easily a Premiership club. There are some right shit fanbases out there not even fit to wipe our arses, how Blackburn can be considered a Premiership club is an absolute joke. Have good managers and players once doesn't make you a big club. Newcastle haven't won anything in about 60 years but are clearly one of the biggest clubs in the country. Chelsea consistently win things every year but in essence they're nowhere near as big as Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, or even Spurs and Villa. If you're going to take history into account the focus has to be on consistency, because most clubs have had short spells of brilliance (Forest, Huddersfield and Preston for example) but they've had far more years of 2nd division, even 3rd and 4th division football. I'd say there are 13 clubs bigger than us, as their fanbases consistently prove. Then we're among about 7 clubs you could throw a blanket over. I'd put us about 15th, give or take.

Obviously crowds will fluctuate in the short term.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 25 March 2014 Posted 25 March 2014 We will probably find out how "big" we are, come the end of next season.
DB11 Posted 25 March 2014 Posted 25 March 2014 The algorithm to decide this is going to be biased in favour of the author where he wants teams to be.

Although I don't entirely agree with the whole of your statement, you do bring up an interesting point. What if, instead of just rewarding teams, you give minus points for every time they've been out the Prem. You'd also increase the deduction as you go down the leagues, -1 for Championship, -2 for League 1, -3 for League 2 and so on. Being in the Prem gives you neither plus or negative points. Although that would be tedious, so possibly start it from 25 years ago (1989?) so that it shows the relatively recent state of the clubs and modern football. Add in Cups and League Championships and it might work better.

Banks Posted 25 March 2014 Posted 25 March 2014 Were about 17th/18th I reckon. Only Wednesday, Forest and Leeds possibly Derby bigger than us in the division.
