Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 I've got a lot of respect for burnley as club but I have to say that I was disappointed with Sean Dyche's interview Ok I understand his team just lost but it shows a lack of class IMO that he managed to fit in 3 excuses(some may say reasons) as to why we won: 1 injuries, everyone gets them and it's his fault for not bringing in sufficient cover 2 Referee decisions, I agree that the ref didn't have the best of games, he missed the blatant foul on vardy when their defender had a firm grip on his arm but there was definitely no foul by Chris wood for the 2nd goal IMO the defender was too weak. 3 the usual they've spent loads of moment blah blah crap blah not interested You very rarely hear Nige make excuses like that
Stuliasz Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 It's a standard response to a defeat, just trying to take some of the pressure off his players. They've got a tough run-in with their depleted squad and they don't need to be told they were hugely second best today.
stb1996 Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 Got a bit wound up when he said that we were at the top due to "many, many pound notes" I would be a shame for us to go up with us branded as a team that bought their way out of the league Yes we have spent considerably more money than burnley, but are nowhere near the levels of QPR
Leicester Lass Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 Think his pound notes comment was very disrespectful to Pearson, who has shown nothing but admiration for Dyche and the job that he's done at Burnley.
Fox92 Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 He always makes excuses. I've said it all along, when people on here seem to like him. When Burnley were top of the league, he also came out and said something along the lines of "we're top because we're the best team in the league"... Nige would never come out and say something like that, neither would he make excuses.
J.Lisemore Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 Really want them to come up with us, but it did make me think twice when Dyche came out with rubbish like that, not sure if it was the unexpected shock that we completely played them off them park, but he sounded very bitter.

foxfanazer Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 Better team and classier manager. Bore off gravel throat
Tielemans63 Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 I think people are getting a bit too wound up about this. It was a low blow but he's defending his team and ultimately, who gives a shit? We're top and they're not! Just goes to show what a brilliant manager Nige is - never resorts to comments like that even when we lose.
evostic Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 He looked a bit shell-shocked to be honest. I guess a year unbeaten in the League at The Turf gives you a kind of confidence and he may have seen this game as the ultimate ratification of his worth!
harpendenfox Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 Absolutely. Nige has behaved with huge grace all season. Modest in victory, graceful in defeat (as far as I can remember). He is doing us proud, something we all need to remember when things get tougher next season
cc_star Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 The gulf between first & second must have been a bit of a shock to him. Hope Burnley can hold on & keep QPR out. Not sure why so many of our fans get upset when other managers mention spending We've rolled £7m+ loss onto £12m+ loss onto £15m+ loss onto £20m+ loss onto £30m+ loss over consecutive seasons and not only haven't we had to sell off the likes of Schmeichel, Morgan & Nugent but we've actually strengthened and added to the wage bill. No wonder everyone mentions it all the time, sure it's not the recklessness of QPR, but christ... We're not playing by the same rules as most in the division - It's just finally we have a manager who can capitalise on it. Our blindness to this is baffling. Anyway, it was Dyche's choice not to have another forward, even from their development squad on the bench forcing him to go 451 & it was his 3 man midfield which lost out to our 2 man midfield (remember Drinkwater losing out in Championship player of the season ). It was his team who were given a real lesson & now the pressure is on them to hold on
Swalker Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 I was looking into how much 'big spending leicesters' starting 11 cost- I reckon around 9.375 million Kasper- 1.5 mil De Laet and James- 2 mil Morgan- 1 mil Was- free Schlupp- free Knocky- 2.6 mil Drinkwater- I didn't have a clue, reckon around 875,000 if anyone could help on this would be great Mahrez- 400,000 Vardy- 1 mil Nugent- free Obviously alot of these would probably rise with appearances etc and some of the fees probably are slightly different so if any of these cost more/less than I put please just say! But under 10 million for a starting 11 who have been the consistent starting 11 for a team top of the league isn't too bad considering how big spending we are Even the bench though- Logan- free Dyer- free Moore- free King- free Hammond- unsure as conflicting prices. Some say free others say undisclosed fee but I imagine belown 1 mil. GTF- free Wood- 1 mil

Manjiro Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 Ings cost £1 million, Vokes £350k and so on. Dyche seems to have spent a few £1 notes (?) himself. Possibly we have a bigger squad; we're going to need it in the Prem. If Burnley go up as well, expect them to spend a few £1 notes, or even coins, as well.

It was his team who were given a real lesson & now the pressure is on them to hold on This is a brilliant, contentious post. I really enjoyed it. Obviously, I have to take issue with you saying 'we're not playing by the same rules as most in the division' - after all it looks like we will comply with the same FFP regulations that Burnley will have to comply with, and QPR / Forest / Leeds most probably won't be able to comply with. And if we don't, then we'll receive the same punishment as those who don't. I tend to agree with you on spending - and the silliness of our sensitivity to being dubbed 'big spenders'. But it's not so outrageous that we can be said to play by different rules to the rest of the division. And the vast bulk of our spending came 2,3,4 years ago now. If we want to look at how much clubs were spending back then, with the suggestion being that - even though most of the signings have since moved on, the club still somehow benefits from having bought them in the first place - then Burnley's spending back then was very much on a par with ours too.

purpleronnie Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 The interview I heard he said we deserved to win.

Bob Weasel Fox Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 The interview I heard he said we deserved to win.He did Purps but then let himself down by having a dig at us afterwards
dayday Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 Looking at the Burnley forum they thought the ref had a decent game.
purpleronnie Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 He did Purps but then let himself down by having a dig at us afterwards Oh right, I see.
Guest MarshallForEngland Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 You'll notice another trait of Dyche as well which is that when Bunrley turn a game round or get an otherwise good result, he always says something like "I said to the boys at half time [insert cliché here]" or "I said to the lads before the game, if we can [insert another cliché here]". He surreptitiously credits himself for victories, hate seeing that in managers, not a very classy thing to do.
Woollett's Wellies Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 When I saw the Dyche interview I didn't hear him speak...I saw Nugent wrong foot the Burnley defender and stroke the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Then 'the hammer of Wood' blast past the desperate dive of the Burnley keeper......Did Dyche say something then? Burnley 0 Leicester City 2. Nuff said.
