An Away Move Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 Would you like to see our owners spend big in the bid for long-term survival or build thriftily? Personally I'd rather see the latter. I like the thought of us being a well run club and would hate to see us go back down to the Championship and end with debts like QPR or Bolton. But perhaps my preference lacks a little ambition?
An Away Move Posted 4 April 2014 Author Posted 4 April 2014 We'll spend some dollar and roll the dice I think. That might be in our owner's DNA if the Sven years are anything to go by. But equally perhaps they learned a lesson from it?
kingcarr21 Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 I would like to think that Pearson will be able to find some hidden gems in the transfer market that wont require ridiculous money. Spend within our means and if we get relegated then just smash the championship again. easy peasy
An Away Move Posted 4 April 2014 Author Posted 4 April 2014 Middle ground. Doh! Why do I always think in binaries?! But is there a middle ground? We'll either be in the black or in the red, won't we? Not many clubs who are not in debt even with all that TV money.
Nick Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 Yeah, I think they'll spend a few million but only on 4/5 players. 2 x CB 1X CM 1x GK 1x CF
cityfanlee23 Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 I think we need to spend 20m.. but only sign around 4/5 quality players
justfoxes Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 I'm thinking that Pearson will keep faith with most of the squad that delivered us promotion can see 2 or 3 new faces with prem experience coming in can also see super Kev signing another year then moving on to the Leicester coaching staff ! But realistically I think Pearson will see how we fair in the prem for a couple of months then maybe bring in a bit more experience !' Exciting times for the foxes so glad we kept the faith with Nigel I was wrong end of last season thinking Nigel could take us no further but I'm glad to say and hold up my hands and say " IWAS TOTALLY WRONG ABOUT NIGEL PEARSON !! IN NIGEL WE FOOKING TRUST !!

Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 No need to pay over the odds. I'm sure Pearson will have ear-marked several (not necessarily seven) players who would benefit our squad without costing the earth. Walsh probably has a couple of French unknowns who will prove to be corkers too.
An Away Move Posted 4 April 2014 Author Posted 4 April 2014 According to the article about NP in the Mail today it seems likely we'll be fined £20m for not being compliant with FFP. All I can say to that is, thank God we are going up! It is like going over the credit card limit to get the thing you really needed.
LC/FC Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 I'd like to see us carry on how we have done since he came back. Spending money on quality players that will fit in and not just anyone/everyone because we can afford to. I know it's cliché to go "In (insert manager name) we trust" but looking at the quality he's brought in so far, I don't see why we won't find some absolute diamonds, from our management team. Just to clarify, they signed Vardy, Drinkwater, James, Knockeart, Mahrez, Morgan, Wasyl, Dyer, Wood and more. Our staff have an eye for signings.
Far Post Gerry Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 That might be in our owner's DNA if the Sven years are anything to go by. But equally perhaps they learned a lesson from it? I think you've got that spot on. They tried the 'instant success' route, realised it didn't work, and started thinking more long-term. Not all Asian owners are loons (though most are, to be fair). Personally I'd be massively surprised if we added more than 4-5 players this summer. Just doesn't seem like our way of doing things anymore. Three quality signings in the right places; job done.

All I can say to that is, thank God we are going up! It is like going over the credit card limit to get the thing you really needed. just read that article and the throwaway comment they made at the end was based on nothing more than we already know, we made huge losses in our last financial year but a lot of things have changed off the field and we've been told all season we'll be fully compliant with FFP.
morris1234 Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 I can see nige bringing in players that will not only be versatile on the pitch, but will hold their value. I don't see any big money moves, or cherry picking players that were deemed surplus ( a la QPR). I think we will largely keep the same spine of the team. Time will tell but I can him keeping the same ethos of a tight knit group. Either way I can't see him doing an 'arry and throwing money into a panic filled January.
Dan Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 Put faith in Pearson to know what players will keep us up next year and then fund it as long as it isn't ridiculous. I'd take staying up next year but in the end I'd like to see us making a genuine go at qualifying for Europe.
Alex_LCFC Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 Yeah, I think they'll spend a few million but only on 4/5 players. 2 x CB 1X CM 1x GK 1x CF left back as well I think
Nick Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 left back as well I think Oh I agree we need one but sadly I think he may play Jeff there and use Konch as back up
indierich06 Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 Well, we're going to have to spend money to compete. I can't see Pearson just lobbing money about just for the sake of it, any signings he makes are going to be well considered and thought out. The fact is, if you want to attract a higher calibre of player, you need to spend a little bit more. Wouldn't want us to limit ourselves to bargain basement signings and free transfers - these players are all available for a reason usually. Need to find a happy balance.
Captain... Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 Depends what you mean by spend big, we could see Nigel offering the current squad prem wages (with significant relegation clauses) to ward off any interest, and bring in a few more on prem wages, may be a couple of free signings. So it may seem like we aren't spending a lot, but in actual fact we are. He is going to have a huge budget however you look at it, we will earn £63m minimum from prize and TV money, (more than Man United earnt last season for winning the thing) Pearson would be mad to not consider spending all the money made available, and the owners will be mad to not make the majority of it available for team building. We have worked so hard to get here, it would be odd to squander the opportunity to save a few pennies when avoiding relegation will be worth so much money. What Pearson will do when handed his war chest I don't know, but if he is too stubborn and won't pay over the odds for a player we will miss out on targets because other clubs will, especially the other promoted clubs. When NP talked about Cornelius being in his valuation about 500k, when Cardiff paid more than 10 times that amount for him, the difference is for Cardiff £8m was a fraction of their Prem budget and they could afford it, whereas in the Championship, that will be your budget for 2-3 seasons, the EPL is the richest league in the world and everyone knows it. Every player we go for we will have to pay over the odds for because every club and agent knows we will have a fvck load of money in the Prem. NP has never had a budget like this, nor has he tried to build a squad for the Prem, this summer will be the most important of his career.
MooseBreath Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 A bit of caution is natural after what we've experienced and seen elsewhere. But right now we've got a management team who know how to spend money and owners with lots of money to spend. If ever we're going to 'go for it', now is the time. I don't want to see splashing out for the sake of it - we won't get that with nige anyway - but I also don't want to see us holding back out of excessive caution or sentimentality over this season's squad. We need to be right at the top limit of what is a responsible level of spending to fully take advantage of the skills and resources we currently have available
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 just read that article and the throwaway comment they made at the end was based on nothing more than we already know, we made huge losses in our last financial year but a lot of things have changed off the field and we've been told all season we'll be fully compliant with FFP. I am finding this a little confusing as I was under the impression that it was this seasons spending that is subject to the FFP rules. Can anyone clear this up ? Or is this just a simple case of poor journalism ?
