_Fatboyslow_ Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 Or to look at this from a differant perspective, how much do you feel that the owners should take out considering the losses that they have substained so far ?
Richard Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 I am finding this a little confusing as I was under the impression that it was this seasons spending that is subject to the FFP rules. Can anyone clear this up ? Or is this just a simple case of poor journalism ?I think that this case was just poor journalism, a whole article on what a great guy NP is and then the last line is something along the lines of "Leicester announced huge losses 2012-2013 and therefore it's likely they'd face a fine for failing to comply with FFP." There was no evidence provided rather just a cheap throwaway comment, typical of the Mail
dog_4 Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 Lescot free bertrand £5m Cabello £12m Holtby £5m bafetimbi Gomes Free!
Jakemoore Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 No need to pay over the odds. I'm sure Pearson will have ear-marked several (not necessarily seven). This running joke will never end!
Nick Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 This running joke will never end! It's not a 'running' joke - there are eight lanes used on a athletics track, not several.
Tommy G Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 Put faith in Pearson to know what players will keep us up next year and then fund it as long as it isn't ridiculous. I'd take staying up next year but in the end I'd like to see us making a genuine go at qualifying for Europe. One step at a time. Even if we did as well as Southampton they are hardly looking at europe even yet
Aeropars Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 Its got to be both! We have to spend to ensure survival. But those spends have to be financially viable. So we have to spend a good amount on guaranteed value for money players. No doubt about it, we have a great core of players and for the championship, we have quality in depth. Take that step up and I don't think we have that quality in depth and this is where we need to strengthen. Not just on the first team but having competition for places all over the park. We cna only do this with spending a good amount.
Guest MattP Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 You spend wisely and try to get value for money. The answer is somewhere inbetween. I'm sure if we could sign Messi for 25million Nigel would be the first to sign the cheque.
AKCJ Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 Inbetween. I think Hull should be the example we follow. They've spent a total of around 20-25m in the transfer windows on players that have significantly improved them in vital areas. McGregor, Davies, Huddlestone, Jelavic and Long have come in and given them a very good spine which means they rarely concede but they're dangerous for a goal. I think we'll need strengthening in those types of positions with good premier league experience. Players that want to prove themselves and work hard, the type that would fit Nigel's bill.
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 It's not a 'running' joke - there are eight lanes used on a athletics track, not several. Now that's funny
Father Ted Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 According to the article about NP in the Mail today it seems likely we'll be fined £20m for not being compliant with FFP. All I can say to that is, thank God we are going up! It is like going over the credit card limit to get the thing you really needed. How clever of Blatter... fining clubs for making losses
Dan Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 One step at a time. Even if we did as well as Southampton they are hardly looking at europe even yet They were at one stage. If we get to the top flight I don't fancy sitting back and taking 17th every year. We need to make something of ourselves in the long-term, not just make up a number. I wouldn't expect us to waltz into Europe but I'd hope we go for it eventually.
Stadt Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 Pearson will only spend a lot on a player If he feels that they have the right personality or temperament. I doubt he'd spend big money on a player if they weren't willing to work hard and fit in with our ethos - I'd imagine he spends a lot of time trying to find out what players like Mahrez are like on a personal level.
Manwell Pablo Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 Yeah, I think they'll spend a few million but only on 4/5 players. 2 x CB 1X CM 1x GK 1x CF Need a left back as no.1 priority. Possible a proven multi million pound centre back, and somehow find a bloke who can net us 12 or more goals a season, do this and we'll be fine, second priorities would be another midfielder and a proper back up for Kasper.
Littletoe Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 The best thing about going up this year in regards to premier league spending, is that we have a World Cup to keeps tabs on. I'm sure the scouting team will be looking closely at all games, to maximise potential players coming to the club.
Guest Col city fan Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 Somewhere in the middle I think. Although Pearson may have a sizeable transfer kitty, I doubt he'll spend anywhere near all of it. Expect to see probably three signings, none of which cost any more than 7/8 million.
Devonfox1884 Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 I think we need to spend 20m.. but only sign around 4/5 quality players This. I think we need: A back-up keeper 1 premier league CB 1 Quality CM 1 winger (preferably can play on both wings) 1 Quality striker
