Don't get me wrong he deserves a chance as does every player but every now and then he worries me

Why does he "deserve" a chance? He gets well paid for his services whether he plays or not - and earns his crust on many occasions. But that doesn't guarantee his place next week never mind next season as I'm sure the likes of Andy King, Liam Moore and Lloyd Dyer can testify.

What earthly obligation does Nigel Pearson have to play anything less than his best available team if he so wishes? And if that changes between now and the start of our Premiership campaign - which seems certain - then so be it. DeLaet will have to earn his shirt like everyone else.

Based on last night's performance he'd be lucky to earn his place in our next Championship game if there was a realistic alternative, let alone the Premiership.

He has had a couple of shots in the Prem before, and didn't look up to standard.

He has done well this season though, and I've warmed to him quite a bit, but when he makes a mistake like last night doubts creep into your mind.

Defending against Antonio is one thing, but next season he may have to defend against the likes of Januzaj, Hazard, Sterling etc... and quite frankly I believe he is a car crash waiting to happen when he comes up against those players.

If one player is to struggle from our first 11 this season, in the Prem next season, I believe that guy would be De Laet.

You call 6 games for Norwich when e was 22 a chance in the premiership, I didn't think he did a lot wrong last night, when the goal want in he had no support and had to try and do what he could, I couldn't fault him for it, he has had a couple if poor games recently but over the season I can't think of another full back in the championship if tater have

Such bollocks saying he got bulled by Antonio! Apart from the goal he matched him for strength and pace, which not many fullbacls in this league will do. Won everything in the air as usual and looked tidy in possession. Good performance RDL-should definitely be starting come August

Thats how I saw it too. There are posters who twist and turn their player opinions on days form.

Yesterdays goal was no way RDLs fault, the whole defence was sleeping, so what let us not forget 20 games unbeaten

RDL just happened to be one of the players we can thank for that.

Where in gods name did he get bullied last night, he stopped him so often reaching the by-line, and stopped himgetting any real dangerous crosses in, of course he was occasionally beaten......bloody hell thats football.

The goal he was hung out to dry from his own buddies, should we question Drinkwater , James for going on walk about. Knocky for being caught out while moving forward, and in midfield lost more than he won last night

.

I will go further IMO RDL is probably one of the top 10 RBs in the country, and he is a natural automatic write-in for next season. His seasons form has been tops, dont phsyco-analyse every single move or mistake.

Agree with pretty much all of that, RDL has the most secure position in the team next season.

There is no way he is better than Naughton! He has had a great season but been suspect defensively lately. He was completely bullied by Antonio last night, does deserve a shot in the prem though

Selective thinking I'm afraid. Antonio might easily have scored two goals in the opening quarter for a start. And of course DeLaet was partly at fault for the goal. He left him far too much time and space to attack him in a dangerous place.

Yes. I'm much more worried about Schlupp to be honest.

I think (and have done for ages) that Schlupp will be one of the players who makes the step-up very well.

We are now seeing why the Prem clubs showed an interest in him.

Schlupp is not yet the finished product, plus I would love to see him play in a free roll just behind the strikers, to see if he could play that game, bcos for me his distribution is very good he has has the lungs to get around the park and he has that turn of pace.

watch the goal again pal. Yes, he couldve been tighter, but he showed him inside-and did the right thing. He then needed either DD(who didn't cover quick enough) or Was to step out of defence and block it. Not entirely RDL's fault

If this question had been asked 5 games ago, I think the general consensus would have been yes. However, he's had a couple of poor games recently but I still think he is good enough for the premiership - dont forget we're the first team he's had regular first team football at so he's only going to keep getting better.

I wouldn't disagree with Pearson bringing in some competition at right back though

You're right it wasn't entirely DeLaet's fault and I acknowledged the fault of others in the Wednesday Post match thread:- "DeLaet was never tight enough in the first place, neither of our central defenders got close enough to prevent him being run at and Antonio was given the luxury of a free shot in the box irrespective of Schmeichel's failing to keep it out."

Antonio quickly looked the major threat for Wednesday and we didn't react quickly enough in dealing with him either individually or as a team.

We have two wingbacks that are almost perfect for a 352, if we were to play that though we'd be leaving Knocky or Mahrez out though so it's a tough one but I wouldn't be surprised at all if we saw it return next season.

I thought Pearson's comment was true we are going out to win and I would add win at any cost.  You don't hear de Laet moaning often has no cover it is all part of us being so successful.

Is this really being asked? He's one of the best full backs in the league and will do fine next year.

He can improve as he is only young, but has a great future.

He is already better than a handful of right backs currently in the prem IMO.

Defensively, no.

Can't agree. His pace to recover makes him very hard to beat. He was excellent against Burnley away, decent against Wigan but one bad game when he got done by there BEST player and lets be honest, the best player on the pitch last night, and he's not good enough. Every single one of out defenders would have been done there, I have no doubt.

I remember Connor wickham chewing up wes Morgan at hillsboriugh this season, Moore being done by beckford at home?

It happens, but he's good enough, no doubt.
