Lambert09 Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 The best thing about Pearsons signings is that they always have the right mentality. There are very few he's signed which have had bad attitudes, the majority of them are always popular with the fans off the pitch as well as on it. Just the type of thing you want to be reading from a fans point of view. We really have built something special here
Clever Fox Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 Showing great potential, just needs to lift his head at times and improve his defensive side of the Game. Which I'm sure Pearson will do as he has done with Knocky. Does his call up mean that his value is now in the Millions. Proving again the talent of our Scouting system and our rising profile in the game.
Manwell Pablo Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 Their last squad had 4 players playing in Algeria, 1 in Qatar and 2 in the Championship for starters. No idea if that's representative of what will be going to the World Cup but as one of the better players at the best side outside of the top flight in England I think his chances might be slightly higher than you're suggesting of at least going, even if he barely plays. I love this, trying to look clever because you've had the brains to nip over to wikipedia and check their last squad. Here you go "For starters" Please re read that I said. "MAINLY" made up of top flight European players, so 16 were and 7 weren't. The Quateri player is Bougherra who is clearly in Qatar for the money and capable of playing elsewhere, two of the four where goal keepers who will by second and third choice to Mbolhi at the tournament, and the Championship player you refer to is actually on loan from a Turkish Prem club must have over 20 caps and has smashed in goals in Greece for fun and will most definitley get the nod ahead of Mahrez. Totally irrelevant post. For seconds, having now seen that squad there is a whole host of promising youngsters at top level clubs who've already got a handful of caps who were not included in that squand and will stand more of a chance at getting the nod than Mahrez I'd love to see him go but it'll probably be a tournament to soon for him given he's not even been capped yet and what he's up against. Very small chance he'll make the cut if all contenders are fit.
AndWhat? Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 A member of Leicester, Riyadh Mahrez, could become a Lion Atlas but he chose to honor his father by opting for the selection of Algeria is preparing to compete in the World 2014 in Brazil. The young Franco-Moroccan-Algerian received our colleagues in the "scorer" with which he spoke about his motives and his future.Excerpts The Scorer: Many clubs wanted you last winter, including Torino, but you chose Leicester. Why this choice? Riyad Mahrez: Basically, there were clubs in Ligue 1 as following me, like Montpellier and Nice, but there was nothing concrete. Then Leicester made an offer and its leaders came to see me several times. I really felt that the club wanted me and its leaders have convinced me. Thereafter, my entourage convinced me to accept this challenge. I can say that I'm on an adventure. Playing a World Cup is anything to you? That would be wonderful.Go to Brazil, the country of football, it is something wonderful. And if Vahid decides to sacrifice you and not take you to the end, what would be your reaction?I'll be disappointed, this is normal. Any ambitious player wants to make a World Cup, at least once in his life. After that, I will not take my head. I will continue to work and that's all. Leicester, how does one has seen your first call-up? Everyone was happy. The coach said he was happy for me and that he would follow me to the World Cup, so I went. The club did not want to initially leave you available for selection, because of course planned in Thailand. Finally, the FAF was able to show persuasive ...The coach had a discussion with me and he told me he wished me the best. He allowed me to join the selection as soon as possible and provided me this long journey. Let's move on now. According to our records, your mom is Moroccan, is not it? Yes, indeed. You could then claim to play for Morocco. Why did you choose Algeria?Because I am Algerian and I have been on holiday in Algeria. My father, Allah Yerahmou has always wanted me to play for Algeria. So I totally consider Algerian, even though I'm a little Moroccan too. You were very close to your late father?Yes, a lot. It was he who signed me in football, and that encouraged me to do this sport. He was always at my side. I wish he were here with me to see me in selecting and wearing this green jersey (he says with emotion). After, that's life and I hope he is proud of me up there. Be convened in selection and have that early career, this is a win for you and your late father?Yes, because I know he is proud of me up there and he was so glad I had it was still alive. It was he who initiated you really football?Yeah, that's him and all this is thanks to him. Morocco will play for you has never crossed my mind ...No, never. Is the Moroccan Federation has contacted you in the past? No. Nobody knew that I'm Moroccan too. Algeria And if you do she not contacted before and that Morocco was the first? I would not have been in Morocco. My choice was for Algeria. They call me before or after, I would not have said yes for Algeria. You are someone who is very family?Yes, a lot even. Being close to my family, it is important for me. Although I was born and raised in France, I have the same values of those of corn. I am always with my family and friends. It protects me and it also keeps me grounded. What look to your mom on your career?Ben, she is pleased with me. And even if she does not know anything about football too, but it follows the games and knows what is selected. http://www.lionsdelatlas.net/international/mondial/mondial-2014/item/12699-riyad-mahrez,-un-fennec-au-sang-d-une-lionne.html

I was just trying to have a discussion and raising the spectre that it wasn't quite the slam dunk that you made it out to be. I'm not pretending to have any knowledge on this at all. Thanks for the measured reaction though, classy response.
Ashley Posted 9 May 2014 Author Posted 9 May 2014 In the interview it also says that Riyad is the only current player to be in the Algerian WC Squad not to come through a Academy.

That's without mentioning that it's just providing irrelevant information. Midfielders: Nabil Bentaleb (Tottenham), Ryad Boudebouz (Bastia), Yasine Brahimi (Granada), Adlene Guedioura (Crystal Palace), Amir Karaoui (Entente de Setif), Medhi Lacen (Getafe), Saphir Taider (Inter Milan), Hassan Yebda (Udinese). Forwards: Abdelmoumene Djabou (Club Africain), Rafik Djebbour (Nottingham Forest), Sofiane Feghouli (Valencia), Nabil Ghilas (Porto), Foued Kadir (Rennes), Riyad Mahrez (Leicester), Islam Slimani (Sporting Lisbon), Hilal Soudani (Dinamo Zagreb). Think it's pretty safe to say that's a hard squad for a lad who's had half a good season and never been capped to get into. Kudos if it happens, someone's clearly had a close eye on him.
benpicko Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 in the 30. dunno when their 23 is announced. Kitchandro Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 I'll be annoyed if that shite Forest player gets in and Mahrez doesn't.
dmayne7 Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 I'll be annoyed if that shite Forest player gets in and Mahrez doesn't. But he's a striker and not a winger so not a player you should feel has taken Riyad's place if he doesn't make it.
Carl the Llama Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 http://www.lionsdelatlas.net/international/mondial/mondial-2014/item/12699-riyad-mahrez,-un-fennec-au-sang-d-une-lionne.html Shit interviewer who's clearly more interested in talking about him being part Moroccan and making Mahrez repeat himself about never wanting to play for them to bother asking proper questions. Mahrez comes across very well though, he clearly has a lot of passion for the game. In the interview it also says that Riyad is the only current player to be in the Algerian WC Squad not to come through a Academy. link?
Manwell Pablo Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 I'll be annoyed if that shite Forest player gets in and Mahrez doesn't. Djebbour will go and play second fiddle to Slimani, Mahrez isn't going to be picked as a lone striker. Soudani will probably start wide left which is where you'd fancy Mahrez's best chance will be. If they get rid of one foward he might sneak in ahead of Djabou, they'll more than likely do away with a keeper, two defenders two midfielders and two forwards though and I can't see how Mahrez is going to squeeze in. The rest have caps and experience at a decent level. From what I've seen of him I'd fancy him to do better than some of the players who will go but I just don't think he will. Experience counts for a lot at a World Cup, he's never played at a level close to what he'd be going into and that will go against him I reckon.
Richard Posted 13 May 2014 Posted 13 May 2014 "I only found out about Mahrez in February and went to watch a few of his matches. He's an interesting player," Halilhodzic said at the Algerian Football Federation training centre on Monday." http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/may/13/algeria-world-cup-squad-nabil-bentaleb-tottenham?INTCMP=ILCNETTXT3487
