Lazy sunday so got me thinking.

Had some Derby fans chatting to me at work yesterday about the place offs, got round to talking about us doing them 2-1 and they are still bitter lol . I thought we should have beaten Blackburn and Swindon but if we had we couldn't have done Derby on their big day. So got me thinking:

If we had beaten Cardiff on penalties and if we has beaten Blackpool where would we be now? With Milan in charge with Hoos and with the squad we had i  think even big Nigel would have been struggling. So even with all the ifs and buts that shocking penalty probably did us a big favour. Time for some probably to find a new pantomine villain.

Plus if we were premier league our price would have been higher and would Top and Dad have been willing to fork out for a premier league team or would they have picked another championship club.

I'm not sure I believe in fate but I think everything bad that's happened to us in the last few years we can look back on and think it made us better for it.

It all started with relegation to League One, we were consistantly in a relegation battle struggling in Championship for a few years, I think we needed to get relegated, start a fresh, clear out start again, obviously Sir Nigel Pearson was bought in aswell, one of the biggest, best things that has happened to this club at the start of our ongoing success.

We got promoted at a canter, everything seemed alot more positive, we went in the Championship got into the playoffs, there was heartbreak with the penalty loss against Cardiff and perhaps it was a 'low' point in our last few years, we lost Pearson, I was genuinely gutted he left/was pushed we had abit of merry-go-round with Sousa coming in, players coming in and out, then we had Sven which was exciting but abit of a circus, I enjoyed the time under Sven but at the same time he had to go, we were not moving forward, not in a positive way imo with the circus that surrounded us anyway. The new owners came in during some point between that point aswell, i'm not really sure where but obviously that was exciting and a major factor and positive.

Then Sir Nigel Pearson returned, the hero, the saviour, we had abit of a disappointing end to last season's league season but positive in the fact we scraped into the playoffs, especially in the manner that we did it, again it was heartbreak in the playoffs and as weird as this sounds it was perhaps the best results (Controversial). It gave the players experience, inspiration, it pushed them to come back stronger and better, it gave us grit and determination.

This season, well it doesn't even need explaining, since the playoff defeat last year we've never looked back.

I think everything bad that has happened really we have turned into a positive to make us better.

Let's flip this round,

If we hadn't been relegated to League One, would we be where we are now?

No I think, we'd have had another relegation battle in the Championship, maybe we wouldn't have got Pearson in, we wouldn't have had the positivity of winning League One at a canter and we wouldn't have had the confidence and belief.

If Kermorgant had scored the penalty, yes we'd have been in a playoff final, we would have still had to win the final, If we won the final, I personally think it'd have been too early for our side to have competed in the Premiership, I think we would have been relegated from the Premiership, badly, the team wasn't ready and it would have been rushed, potentially ruining any hard word that had been done, I'm kinda glad we stayed down and continued building, the sad thing about that loss we losing Pearson, I still say he was pushed by Milan though.

If Knockaert scored the penalty/Deeney did go and score, yes we have been in a playoff final and we would have had to win it, If we won it, I'd have been more confident in the Premiership than I would with the team that lost against Cardiff but I still don't think we'd have been good enough.

We are alot more stronger thanks to the Watford loss and we are alot more confident and positive after this season and I don't really have any fears for next season I see no reason why we can't compete and think we should be safe next year, we then will have to build on that and there is no reason why we can't be like a Southampton.

Talking of Kermorgant he's probably the best finisher in the division currently. Glad to see it work out for him in England as you could see he had the minerals.

Agree with a lot of this though I feel that had we got promoted last season we would have strengthened enough enabling us to stay up, on the flip side of that I think a few of our players who have shone this season wouldn't have had the chance this season has allowed them to develop and as a result would not have featured for us probably leaving.

Best finisher? Please tell me this is sarcasm! Decent in the air but best finisher in the division? Not heard of Deeney, Rhodes, even Grabban, McCormack, Martin...

Can't we just enjoy what we have achieved this season. What happened at Cardiff and what happened at Watford are in the past. There's no point in "what ifs" in any walk of life, because it didn't happen.

We have always been ultra critical of Kermo ever since the penalty miss but to be fair to him, he does have a lot of natural ability. He nearly scored a lob from 35yrds yesterday. He's a good championship player. Not the best. Not good enough for us. But he is still good enough to get in most teams. He's not that bad!

You could say he's decent

I think Kermo has a bit of a chip on his shoulder so he's trying to prove that we shouldn't have let him go

It's not really about fate, it is just life, when you are happy you look at all the bad things that happened before you got there, and be all philosophical and say it was all worth it and now I am happy, and see how the bad times lead to the good, you can even wonder if you would be so happy about the situation if it wasn't for all the shit beforehand, for example, this promotion means a lot more than Mickey Adams' promotion because of the context.

But it is easy to be experiencing the good times and look back on the bad times and think they were all worth it in the end, the real trick is that when you are experiencing the bad times, to be able to look forward to the good times, knowing that the pain you are experiencing now will make the pleasure all that sweeter.
