RonnieTodger Posted 21 June 2014 Posted 21 June 2014 Losing some interest after out early exit. I still plan on watching a lot of it, and do enjoy it as a neutral but for some reason I'd stay up on a night before work and watch games like Russia v Korea. Now, I just can't be arsed to do that. The funny thing is that this has been a brilliant World Cup so far. I also remember Euro 2008 being superb without us there.
Guest Col city fan Posted 21 June 2014 Posted 21 June 2014 The Pearsonites are proving to be a dangerous bunch. Their inability or unwillingness to discuss Pearsons failings and now, it would appear failure, renders it difficult to move on and to even consider alternatives. It's clear that Pearson is not a patch, tactically, on the likes of Zola. The only reason we got back into that game last night wasn't because we were a good team, but because we became desperate. Football wise, they were head and shoulders above us IMO. I don't want another season of the same. I want a manager with just more talent than Pearson has. The Pearsonites are demanding more of the same, which is bizarre given what we've seen now for months. Time for a change. A new philosophy. A younger manager with fresh ideas and fresh ways of playing. After that classic Col quote, it's very hard to take him seriously. Glass houses? No of course not. Given the circumstances of the time (one of the longest runs without a win in the club's history) many were saying the same thing. I've stood corrected since, and said so many times. A number of the quotes on this thread were made before even seeing the teams playing. Which was bizarre.
Salieri Posted 21 June 2014 Posted 21 June 2014 Hardly bizarre. Just opinions made at the time which in hindsight, were misguided. If anything, yours was far worse in that you had plenty to go on to form an opinion whereas those in this thread were far more speculative. I'm just saying that you are leaving yourself wide open by mocking some in this thread given your past judgement(s).

I'm just saying that you are leaving yourself wide open by mocking some in this thread given your past judgement(s). Again, past judgements based exactly on what was going on at the time. That's my point. And shared by many AT THE TIME. The clue is in the capitals. If you are saying that making such a post when we had gone from looking like winning the league to a side just scraping into the play-offs was wrong THEN, I don't agree. We turned it round the following season. For which I have given Pearson nothing but praise.
Salieri Posted 21 June 2014 Posted 21 June 2014 But the predictions made in this thread were made AT THE TIME (notice the capitals?)
Guest Col city fan Posted 21 June 2014 Posted 21 June 2014 But the predictions made in this thread were made AT THE TIME (notice the capitals?) Based on what? Is the point..
Salieri Posted 21 June 2014 Posted 21 June 2014 Based on whatever information at their disposal when the posts were made. I dunno....form, players at their disposal, the manager, dealing with the conditions etc etc. Some may have got it spectacularly wrong but then, so did you.
One Legged Beaver Posted 21 June 2014 Posted 21 June 2014 Bar France and possibly Netherlands and Switzerland, practically the whole of Europe has been disappointing.

The funny thing is that this has been a brilliant World Cup so far. I also remember Euro 2008 being superb without us there. I agree with this. Haven't seen as many matches as I would have liked solely on the basis that I don't have as much free time on my hands now as I did in previous tournaments. In fact, its probably decreased gradually over each tournament from watching practically every game in France 98 to this. Same with everyone on here I guess... Great world cup so far though, this and Euro 2008 are probably two of the best international tournaments since the turn of the century.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 22 June 2014 Posted 22 June 2014 To answer the thread title. Steven Gerrard.
MC Prussian Posted 22 June 2014 Posted 22 June 2014 Bar France and possibly Netherlands and Switzerland, practically the whole of Europe has been disappointing. Managed to beat South American opposition for the first time ever at a World Cup, but the 5-2 defeat against France puts it back into perspective. We've been neither overly convincing nor massively disappointing. The Honduras game will tell.

Some posters aren't afraid to be wrong.
Manwell Pablo Posted 22 June 2014 Posted 22 June 2014 Based on what? Is the point.. I think you can speak for yourself when you make claims about people having not watched these sides pre tournament. Or a least not knowing a fair bit about the players representing them.
purpleronnie Posted 22 June 2014 Posted 22 June 2014 The continuing problems with racism, russian and croatian neo nazi banners, even a pitch invader who removed his shirt to reveal pro nazi messge and then you have german fans blackening their faces, not sure if these are some of those german fans.
Vacamion Posted 22 June 2014 Posted 22 June 2014 It's quite disappointing that the commercial channels and advertisers are persisting with squeezing every last bit of life out of adverts with England players - specifically, Joe "ubiquitous sellout" Hart in the shampoo advert, Sturridge having a subway and that godawful Mars Bar advert (it was godawful before we were eliminated). Frankly, Joe Hart still being shown pretending to play for England whilst rubbing his hands through his hair and talking about needing to be at his best when it comes to the crunch grates a bit when we went out so quickly. Head n Shoulders can do one. I'm only mentioning this because I just went to the loo and Joe frigging Hart was beaming at me from the shampoo bottle in the shower - put me right off...

On he flip side, I'm loving to fact they've spent collective millions to enlist these England "stars" to appear in their adverts only for them to crash out after a week and make the adverts have the total opposite effect.
