Guest MattP Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 Can you imagine the abuse Cook would be getting if this us bowling? His captaincy would be being slated, India would be accused of having no cutting edge or not being ruthless enough, newspapers would be out for him already with tomorrows reports. Exceptional effort from the Burnley Lara, we are the only ones who can win this test now, won't be a declaration from India today.
Corky Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 Looking forward to Warnie's column where he slates the negativity of Dhoni.
purpleronnie Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 Can you imagine the abuse Cook would be getting if this us bowling? He got the abuse during their last wicket partership and rightly so. Just like Dhoni should be getting it from the Indian press and fans. Not sure what point Botham was trying to make, unless Dhoni hasn't had any critcism from the press, which I doubt. I wish we would take every run now because we can win this.

Can you ever remember Dhoni getting slack? I can't, he's the absolute golden boy of cricket and captaincy according to a lot. That's the point Botham was making. The fact this has happened now four times at Trent Bridge in three years probably shows the reason a little bit more than just blaming the captain everytime.

I haven't read the Indian papers today so I don't know. But I couldn't careless if they criticise Dhoni or not, if they aren't they should be, I have no idea why that's important, we support England and cook is failing as captain and with the bat, he deserves criticism.
Guest MattP Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 I haven't read the Indian papers today so I don't know. I meant over the last few years Ron.
purpleronnie Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 I meant over the last few years Ron. I haven't read them over the past few years either, seems odd that we'd care so much about how much negative press opposing captains have. Seems totally irrelevant.

Seems totally irrelevant. I often think the same when an Australian in Shane Warne spends all day spouting about our captain yet our 'fans' seem to lap it up. It shows how unfair we are on our own compared to others.
purpleronnie Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 The big question will we declare over Lunch? Unless they instruct Root and Ander's to throw the bat at it we should declare now.
marko Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 The big question will we declare over Lunch? Unless they instruct Root and Ander's to throw the bat at it we should declare now. Not a chance! They'll let Jimmy have a crack for his century.
purpleronnie Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 Not a chance! They'll let Jimmy have a crack for his century. we've been in similiar positions before where the heart has ruled the head and it's cost us, as long as they go out swinging it won't be a big deal.
marko Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 we've been in similiar positions before where the heart has ruled the head and it's cost us, as long as they go out swinging it won't be a big deal. The difference there being we've been 320 ahead and not declared instead of 28 ahead. Plus it's easier to score your runs in the first innings.

Guest MattP Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 The big question will we declare over Lunch? Unless they instruct Root and Ander's to throw the bat at it we should declare now. We are only 28 in front! Every run is still vital and these two are scoring at a good clip as well. Bat as long as we can, if we could be 200 ahead at 5.30pm that would be the perfect time for a declaration. (obviously not going to happen but you know what I mean)

marko Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 But time is crucial question, no point wasting it, especially on a dead wicket. We're 28 ahead for goodness sake! If we could somehow get a lead of 100 or so it'll put some scoreboard pressure on the Indians.
Guest MattP Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 Just abother 170 from Anderson and root needed then. Well we know it's not going to happen but suggesting a declaration 28 ahead is a bit
Finnegan Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 Anderson has scored more test runs in 2014 than Cook?!
Grandad. Posted 12 July 2014 Author Posted 12 July 2014 I hate this not being played with DRS, sorry I am bringing up yesterday but the decisions to Robson and especially Prior were embarrassing, the Prior dismissal is shocking, Dhoni knew as well Prior didn't edge that. Fantastic effort from Root and Anderson. Moeen Ali taking a wicket!
davieG Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 Joe Root and Anderson's partnership was the highest 10th-wicket stand in Test history James Anderson made the highest score by an England number 11 in Tests Anderson's innings was the longest Test innings by a number 11 Never before have two number 11s scored half-centuries in the same Test This is the first Test in which there have been two century stands for the last wicket

Thought it was odd that Rood kept protecting Anderson even after he was clearly batting capably yesterday.
marko Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Ended in a draw, Cook got a wicket near the end! Ballance was getting some impressive turn and bounce as well.
StanSP Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 That was a fun test. And people say Test cricket is boring .
