eye666 Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 Just got back from Lord's. Such a frustrating end from a great position. Should have had them for 220-odd max. Cook will be under more pressure if he doesn't post a score tomorrow.
Voll Blau Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 Banging it in short on a lean green seamer for overs on end is plain daft. Bowl at the stumps and let the pitch do the work.
Super_horns Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 I noticed a few England cricketers had a night out and one had to bee carried out drunk...now if that had been a footballer the media would be all over it. Lets hope we perform otherwise the press will point to such incidents as an example of lack of control from the captain and coach.
StanSP Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 No praise for Rahane here. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. To get a 100 on a bowler-friendly wicket like that is nothing short of tremendous. And that six off Anderson - it's amazing what confidence can do to a player. Anderson's catch to get him out though

Anderson's catch to get him out though Nobody's denying it was a great knock but while he was batting there were blokes who had to hold up an end, a job made easier by poor bowling tactics in the afternoon.

I meant that all I've seen written is criticism for the bowlers. Not even a mention of Rahane's efforts. The bowlers weren't that poor. All 4 seamers got the ball to swing in any direction; they just didn't do it consistently enough.
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 Why do we have this fixation with banging it in to the tail. Just bowl in the same areas that good the actual batsman out and it should be far to good for 'non recognised' batsmen. Need to dust this last wicket off very early tomorrow else the game could really drift away. Whatever happens tomorrow is really make or break for Cook. If they score another 50 and he doesn't get runs then his place must be close to untenable.
Guest MattP Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 Echo the above. It's so strange, pitch it up - wickets. Soon as we have serious pressure on we start to bowl short again. Still in a great position mind here, should flatten out for a couple of days.

Still in a great position mind here, should flatten out for a couple of days. Very strange ploy. Gone are the days when 9,10,11 are scared of the ball so are an easy target. Full and straight is good enough to knock over the proper batsmen yet not used anywhere near enough to the tail. Hopefully with the weather tomorrow the pitch will dry up and become easy to bat on. Even with the greenery I still expect it to turn a bit on days 4/5 so I'm glad Binny is in over Ashwin, think I would fancy my chances against Binny even on a seaming wicket.

He did well to see us off when we were bowling well in the afternoon session, but our bowling in the evening session was just plain abysmal and made it far easier than it should have been to get his ton.
Grandad. Posted 18 July 2014 Author Posted 18 July 2014 I don't think Captain Cook will have slept very well last night. Pressure!

Nah, he's got the series, no doubt about that, of he goes the whole way through without making a decent score he will be in big trouble. Just gone now as well, gets bad to worse for him.
leicesterlad1989 Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Cook clearly is a very good opening batsman that's currently on bad form but as a captain I get the impression he seems very uninspiring. Difficult decision for him. He really needs runs to sort his confidence out, so perhaps a trip back to County Cricket will help? Surely can't be inspiring to your team mate playing with a captain so low on confidence.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Perhaps teams have worked out how to bowl to him. He hardly gets any opportunities to cut or pull anymore and has never been the best driver of the ball.
StanSP Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Well done Gary Ballance. Good knock from him. Was hoping we could keep consistently taking wickets but he's provided stern resilience.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 Think Jordan comes back in for Stokes next test. His batting has been woeful.
marko Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 Jimmy averaging a tidy 100 with the bat this series. Don Bradman who?!
Guest MattP Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 Perhaps teams have worked out how to bowl to him. He hardly gets any opportunities to cut or pull anymore and has never been the best driver of the ball. Good point, he needs to work out how to get some runs on front foot. This happened with him before a while ago where he kept getting out to full pitched balls outside the office stump. Get the feeling he doesn't have any confidence in leaving the ball at the minute.
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 England bowled dreadfully so far this morning.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 What was that groundsman doing?! Simply unbelievable.
I am Rod Hull Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 For anyone that missed it.... http://instagram.com/p/qoiXNtyy5T/ Btw, Is that Martin Waghorn?
marko Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 What was that groundsman doing?! Simply unbelievable. I agree totally unbelievable, what was he thinking?! There's no way we're going to bowl it that full - should have started 3 metres before.
