Captain... Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Hopefully the bit of fun at the end and Jimmy's amazing knock will lift the mood a bit and the pressure and we see an improvement in the next test. As for Jimmy man of the match, the pundits didn't seem to agree, but I do, he had the most significant impact on the outcome of the test, his 81 saved the test for us and got us the draw, without his 81 Root wouldn't have got his century it would have allowed India to set about scoring quick runs declaring around tea on day 4 and putting us under a huge amount of pressure batting second for 4 sessions. Kumar did well with 2 fifties and a five for, but ultimately his effort contributed to the draw rather than saved the test for India.
James. Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Guardian and BBC Sport commentaries were hilarious during Cook's spell with the ball. Apparently Atherton once described Cook's bowling as "right arm filth". Brilliant.
marko Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 So then, what has Jimmy done? Probably nothing in all likelihood. Well, apart from making the Indian bowlers and captain look a little foolish whilst hitting them to all parts of Trent Bridge.
StanSP Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Jimmy apparently charged with 'abusing and pushing Ravindra Jadeja' Fvck knows what was said. Probably minor.
Swarles Barkley Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 Am I the only one who reckons the apparent disastrous kerrigan debut wasnt all that bad than it was hyped up to be. Okay he hit around the ground but the economy wasnt embarassing. 8 overs for 53 runs is poor but certainly not confidence knocking. It didnt affect the game to a significant extent, the pitch wasnt turning and watson was in good form. Just seems a bit unfair to me to put all these harsh comments and negativity towards kerrigan We're moaning about not having a spinner yet when there is one doing well the pundits say he shouldnt be in the team. Ridiculous really
marko Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 It never fails to amaze me how vile some Indian cricket fans are on Twitter - Bumble and Vaughan have been getting it both barrels today. I can't believe anyone could get so worked up over a game.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 I'm hoping it rains all of day 2 and 3, the pitch is lifeless and the bowlers from both sides have a mare. Yes I backed the draw

Ridiculous really I mentioned this on the previous page. Agree totally, and India have no one like the bogan to knock Kerrigan about anyway. He deserves another shot. It never fails to amaze me how vile some Indian cricket fans are on Twitter - Bumble and Vaughan have been getting it both barrels today. I can't believe anyone could get so worked up over a game. Indian cricket fans = English football fans. Both most popular, so both appeal to lowest common denominator who then think they can give it the bigg'un on Twitter.
StanSP Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 Anderson charged with Level 3 offence. Cook says India are trying to get Anderson banned and only made the complaint as an afterthought. Jadeja now charged with Level 2 offence. Is that not a mere afterthought of Cook/England as well now just to seemingly get back at India/Jadeja? To be honest, I don't even know what either did other than what was quoted when the charges were made (Level 2/3 offence (abusing/pushing etc). Has anyone seen any videos of either?
Guest MattP Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 It's not Kerrigans figures that were the problem it's the fact he got the yips. You have to be massively concerned when that happens. I watched him for a bit at Trent Bridge during the lunch break and you could see nerves just bowling then. I fear for hin and with a green top wouldn't be surprised if we went with a four seam attack again today. Cook didn't even give him an over in the second innings. No Watson of course but you can guarantee any Indian batsman in when he comes onto the attack will be under clear instruction to try and take him apart.
cambridgefox Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 I'm hoping it rains all of day 2 and 3, the pitch is lifeless and the bowlers from both sides have a mare. Yes I backed the draw Probably right with the pitch, because it's all about bums on seats and revenue here.it will kill test cricket which would be a crying shame.Came out early with 5 mates Saturday thinking apart from an hour, that it was the worst days cricket we had ever witnessed.

They can cheat with impunity, openly lie about match fixing and we now have changes to an international calender so they can pointlessly stretch the IPL over six weeks when it could be done in two. If Bangladesh refused to use DRS they would be told to get ****ed, should be the same for the Indians.
Guest MattP Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 Bloody hell I'd fancy a bowl on this pitch. No way does Kerrigan play now, four seamers.

But that doesn't voled the problem that if you want to be successful in Tests you need a quality spinner, unless you have a truly fearsome pace quarter that can operate in all conditions. Is there anyone else that can be brought through? It's a catch-22 in that our pitches aren't exactly spinner-friendly, yet throwing one in at the deep end on a foreign tour isn't great either. leicsmac Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 Holy %^&$, Cook actually won an important toss. Time for Jimmy to take out some of that anger.
Corky Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 Bloody hell I'd fancy a bowl on this pitch. No way does Kerrigan play now, four seamers. Lord's have no pressure to produce a road-like pitch, they are guaranteed two Tests a year so they can provide a track offering help for both bat and ball.
Simmo86 Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 People on BBC live text slagging Cook off for deciding to bowl lol Louis McMahon: I get the feeling this may challenge Hussain at Brisbane '02 as one of the poorest toss decisions by and England captain! David Teasdale: Have a feeling that might be a horrible decision to bowl first. The bloke can't win! Reckon Jimmy is going to fly through these early doors.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 This is a woeful looking pitch if you took the stumps away you wouldn't guess this was the pitch they were using.

Unbelievable, not a cricket captain in the World could seriously choose to bat first there. Comparing it to Nas at the Gabba is so ridiculous you can't even take it seriously.
Swarles Barkley Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 Woefully bad session for England. Its seaming so much and we got 2 pîssing wickets. How prior shelled that last ball Ill never know
Captain... Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 To all England bowlers, this is the part of the batting line up you mop quickly. Don't throw away another good position with poor bowling to shit batsmen. Oh and how the fvck can I be getting signal interference on Virgin media, it is a cable in the ground, unless a rat is chewing through the Sky Sports 2 section of the cable, otherwise can any explain why my picture is a pixelated blob and has been since tea, ffs at this rate I'll actually get some work done.
purpleronnie Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 This happens so often it's becoming plain weird.
