Crap Value for Money

I buy Wilkinson Sword 2 blade disposables.  A pack of 20 is about £6 & will easily last me a year.  Why anyone would pay for or even need a 4 blade razor - I've no idea?

I was commenting on the price of the heads vs. the whole thing, I don't disagree that they're overpriced. :P

Gee, it must be great to be so stinking rich that you don't have to bother about the cost of a service! lol

Was it you that said you spent £300 on a night out or was that one of the other young FT millionnaires?!

I'm surprised at that £2.30/£10.00 differential. Oadby is a bit further out from us, probably about £2.50 by bus, I'd guess, and I'm sure that I got a cab from there to town for £7.00 (3-mile journey).

I'm sure season tickets are better value, but I work from home so don't have any use for one - just go to town occasionally of an evening or weekend. I often walk myself, but sometimes I'm a bit knackered and £2 for a 1.5-mile ride with dozens of others seems a piss-take. Compared to some cities, the evening service isn't too bad, though - at least there are buses until 11.30 or so, even if they're not very frequent.

I travel by bus or train at the weekends, just to entertain the kids, they go for free, so it represents pretty good value at present. The ones round here are always quite clean and the drivers always make a special effort for the kids, printing off extra ticket and giving them the change e.t.c.

I'm a full bus willy puller these days :)

It is clear from this thread people don't know how to be a bit frugal.

Loads of cinema deals around, bring your own pop corn, and bottle of drink

Premium rate phone numbers, there are apps and websites that will give you a local number for the same thing.

Taxis, don't get one off the street, unless you are in a mad rush, phone mini cab usually about half the price of a black cab, may have to wait 5 minutes.

You only get ripped off because people are dumb enough to pay stupid prices.

Yeah I would agree with that, I only tend to feel hard done by, when I have been impulsive. Its almost always my own fault.

The bus service (in my experience) around Melton is dreadful. You're lucky if the driver lets you board with the kids before pulling out and driving off, let alone giving them a ticket. There is no evening or Sunday service anymore.

I could catch a bus to work every day but the fact is it costs more than taking the car. Public transport, generally speaking, is used by those who have no choice but to use it. There is no real incentive, particularly outside of the cities, to leave you car at home and take the bus.

This, a million times over.

From where I live, a single bus ticket to or from town now costs £2. By taxi, the same journey costs about £5.

I'd love to see some economic analysis of that. I mean, I know that the initial investment in a bus is greater. I expect maintenance costs more. I know that busy urban routes have to subsidise less busy rural routes.

Even so, if that bus carries 30 passengers per journey, it makes £60 in tickets sales per journey multiple times per day....whereas the taxi only makes £5 for the same journey.

Any suggestions?

Buses run regularly whether they have a passenger or not just in case. A taxi only runs on demand and needs to keep prices down because of the competition with buses.

My biggest gripe with buses particularly Arriva ones is that they employ drivers that are incapable of pretending that they don't hate every single passenger on the bus and secondly the majority of Asian drivers have incomprehensible accents only made worse by mumbling and getting frustrated because I can't understand a single word they're saying.

Paying for a piss in train stations, don't think so son.

If I have to pay to go into a toilet I will stay in there and crimp one off, even if I don't need to go, I'll be in there all day if it means getting my money's worth.

I thought leicester was free. Where do you pay?

I get the train from Leicester but it's the subsequent boozing and arrival at train stations which charge for a piss which is causing my gripe Kenny.

Went to East Midlands Designer Outlet the other day. Designer my arse. Anyway, I fancied a hot dog for a snack so asked the hot dog bird for one, she passes it me and goes "£4.20 please". Nearly passed out. Only had 3 bites and chucked it cos it was rubbish. £1.40 a bite.

Also at Matlock Bath today wanted a chip shop snack so got chips and beans on a tray. £3.10. Unbebloodylievable.

Ticket booking fees, lynx deodorant and Ade Akinbiyi.

I assume your worst nightmare would be to buy a concert ticket and end up sitting next to Ade Akinbiyi wearing Lynx?

Something thats really annoyed me this last week is those England Italia 90 shirts, always wanted 1 and places like Sports Direct have had absolute shed loads of them since they relaunched them. I always planned to get 1 but kept putting it off with availability being so easy and always thought I'd get 1 in the future, anyway this week gone to get 1 only to realise Umbro stopped making these when Nike took over the contract and Sports Direct and other Sports stores flogged them off quickly as cheap as £10 each to get rid of them apparently. Now on Ebay people are selling them for around £80 to £100 each, really annoyed I didn't get 1 earlier. You can get the Scoredraw version for about £25 but not the same

Fantastic. Especially as I was trying to pretend I didn't have what became swine flu.
