What's wrong with Wood?

Recommended Posts

silly talk aside I noticed that especially Lloyd Dyer . less so Jeff Schlupp and ever more less so he two Frenchmen have absolutely no  idea whatsover

how to feed  and supply Chris Wood

Dyers  crossing was shocking and Schlupps isn't much better......Wood needs a pass into space to run onto , not throat balls or  looping crosses

Lloyd Dyer had electric pace and a eye for goal but was useless as a  winger ,

Wood is a bit of a loner apparently and has a few problems with social skills. He doesn't "fit in" in the changing room in terms of what players mean when they speak of a close, tight knit bunch of players.

Bit of an outcast apparently.

With NP's insistence on the importance of the "Character" of a player, maybe that is a reason for any (If true) departure? Loan or otherwise.

He'll score loads of goals in the championship if he's given a run in any half decent team. He'll score plenty in the prem too under the same circumstances. Doesn't look like it's going to happen for him here though. Best case scenario we loan him back to the champ and he scores a hatful, comes back and forces his way into the team. Worst case we let him go at a loss and he goes on to prove himself at another club.

He's been unfortunate this season because Vardy and Nugent have been in the best form of their entire careers.

He started very young. He's only 22 years old. 4 years ago he nearly scored against Italy at the world cup. I see heaps of potential. Nugent won't get any better. Chris Wood will. Whenever he's been given a long run in the team he's always provided goals. You could argue that he doesn't fit our system but I don't agree with that. Yes, we often rely on the threat of Vardy's pace to push the opposition back but we are more than capable of winning games without that. Burnley away, Watford away for e.g.

As for him being an outsider, I'm not entirely surprised. He's 11,000 miles away from his family. He's played for 7 clubs in 5 years. He's been at Leicester 18 months now, he's probably not used to settling down!

I rate him very, very highly. If he went back to a Championship side I reckon he could easily get 20 goals a season.

Nothing wrong with Wood what so ever.

Does he fit our style of play praps not.

Does he offer something different to what we have atm Yes.

Anything wrong with some of our fans Yes.

Some find it easier to call abuse and slag down a player.

Than look at his game be objective praise the good points accept some of the bad ones.

I can think of 4 players and Nige that have been abused last summer and last season + Kasper over his contract.

Instant success is what a lot of our fans expect.

God help us this coming season as we don't have Messi and Ronaldo.

Break out the Kleenex I can see a lot of tears.

Personally if NP can't build a defence that keeps 33 clean sheets and an attack that can score 200+ he should quit.

A lot on here will expect more so I think I am being reasonable.

Cc Star has it spot on.

Wood is a decent player.

Pro's: holds the ball up well, can finish, big, strong.

Cons: not good aerially for a big bloke, slow.

However, he just doesn't fit into the way we play. We have developed into (thank God), a quick pass-and-move side. We use Vardy's and Nugent's pace to get in behind teams, especially on the counter.

Wood just isn't quick enough for the team we've become.

Campbell would fit into this style nicely.

Both for Wood and City, he should look to be joining a side where he is the first choice striker and where the build-up play is slower and longer-ball.

IMO.

Please don't judge any of our squad until they've had the opportunity to perform at the highest level.

The thing that's defined our fantastic season is the collective team spirit, and that includes us, fans.

Anyway. ...Nugent is a cart horse.

Strikers are the most expensive and difficult players to reliably source.

Every time he was called upon last season he did a cracking job, if he will accept a similar cameo type of role then we'd be silly to offload him in my opinion.

Couple of my mates support Wolves and was explaining what a good signing he would be for them last night but they didn't sound too interested

I'd like to see him loaned to a championship club who'll guarantee to play him before we give up on him really.

Easy to forget how young he still is.

Exactly my own thoughts.

Totally agree.

It's a win, win situation. He gets first team football, which he wants and need and we see how good and fit he is after last seasons injuries.

We don't need the money so it's pointless offloading him now. Plus as previously mentioned he's still young that he could be a similar story to Wickham.

We shouldn't give up on him just yet.

Yes, a player shouldn't feel not wanted because we have loaned him out. He needs to build confidence and find his goal scoring touch then we can call him back if needed and hopefully he will be a player full of confidence and bag a few for us...

Really - take a look at the QPR game at home and see how he outpaced two defenders (and it wasn't Dunne and Hill) before a fantastic finish.

i dont see why an earth we payed £2.5 million when hes not worth even half of that

£2.5m? haha !! He was the best part of £1m up front with possible add ons later, nothing even close to £2.5m. If we sold him now, we would get our money back and probably even make a profit. (As we did with Ben Marshall - we made about £500k on him and invested £350k of that on Mahrez)

Look at the squad NP inherited in terms of what they cost and look at what he's subsequently spent and what these players are worth now. The bloke clearly knows what he's doing.

However... Do I think Wood will have much of a role in the Prem this season? Probably not.

After reading the dross on this thread...yet again another young I repeat young player, is slagged off and critised on his so called potential or lack of it.

I am damn happy that NP is our manager, and not any of the pessimistic fans who post on here.

Np has already shown and said he wont buy players, just for the sake of it, obviously that goes for selling aswell.

Wood offers different possibilities, and no matter how we played last season, if NP invests in new players, none of us can forsee or predict what changes, or set up, and tactics he will get his team to play to.

If nobody is out there that offers more, then why should NP release him.like Vardy before him, he might start to realise his potential. That goes for any of the players in the present squad.

NP and his chosen squad, get a free ride from me from any negative vibes or critic until at least after xmas.

This is just the start of the rebuilding and finding stabiliy program.

There will be poor team and individual performances, but its for me always, the last and next 5 games, I look at.

Wood is a young player so he is bound to be inconsistent. However, imo twice this season he's shown what a devastating striking force he can be. Against both Fulham and Burnley away he was excellent and showed what potential he has. If he can start to reach that level consistently then I think we have a prem standard striker. Let the lad improve and grow and see what he's like then.

Chris Wood just rang my wife !!

Something dodgy there.

Are you sure it was "Chris" Wood.. and not just somebody "with" wood?

Are you aware of your wife's current employment staus?, does she spend a lot of time on the phone?

Just asking ;)

he'd thrive off of all the crosses Albrighton can whip in next season, he's a penalty box finisher not a target man, remember outside of England they don't just teach the big kid to jump and head the ball
