(Frazier Campbell ). I rate him and has potential given some time , and game time , for the future / he's different to what we have got . Plus what happening with NUGE I am getting worried I don't want him to go . PREMIER #

Corky Posted 6 June 2014 Posted 6 June 2014 Wood is not a bad player at all, and his scoring record with us is very healthy. But he doesn't fit our style of play, doesn't have the stamina and pressing ability of Vardy or the link up play of Nugent. Sometimes, a player just might not be the right fit, rather than being shit, overrated etc (I know you haven't said that, but no doubt there will be one). I think he may have to move on or accept an impact sub role to get the best out of him.
Isopen Posted 6 June 2014 Posted 6 June 2014 We need alternative ways for breaking defences down next season, there are plenty of players in the Prem with the speed of Vardy. Problem as I see it is that given his height (Wood) he should really be offering us more of a threat in the air, but he seems to have little or no spring in his jump, so players much smaller than him with the power of their jump beat to the ball on the vast majority of occasions. Can "Super Kev" sort this out ?

Fox Ulike Posted 6 June 2014 Posted 6 June 2014 I thought he improved a lot during the course of the season. For the first part of the season he just looked like he lacked any mobility and was stood about waiting for things to happen for him. I think though that Pearson has got into him, and his later performances he looked more like a 'Pearson player': putting himself about and not expecting things to be handed to him on a sliver plate . The game away at Burnley he was excellent. AND, in all the controversy about Kasper's ghost goal at Yeovil it got missed that he bulldozed his way through 2 defenders to head the ball home. A real centre-forwards goal. Wood is a work in progress. With a bit of effort and luck, he could end up being our first choice centre forward next season... (or maybe the season after). It would be a mistake to get rid of him. And it would not be a good career move for Wood to drop back to the Championship without giving it a go with us in the Prem next season.
Bert Posted 6 June 2014 Posted 6 June 2014 I think he's the type of player who to play well consistently, needs to have the team built around him or him be the star player and currently he's neither in our team. A good instinctive striker, (I'm sure many people still forget how young he is) who on his day you could argue he's the best finisher in the championship. I also think that for a bloke of his size he doesn't utilise his height enough as he doesn't seem to jump all that much. But then again is that as much down to the players for knowing they shouldn't be lumping up to him? Struggled with injuries and the form of our front two primarily last season. He was a revelation when he first signed as you all know until his mysterious knee injury.

However he doesn't have much to his game cannot hold up the ball aerially is utter piss considering his height even when the ball is played to his feet he is so sluggish. We are at a higher level and he one of those players that imo isn't going to make the step up.
Stadt Posted 6 June 2014 Posted 6 June 2014 Height doesn't determine how high you can jump, it's quite evident he's too heavy to make a massive leap - On the contrary a player like Kermogant is smaller but is actually able to leave the floor because he isn't built like a Rugby player.

connorlcfc Posted 6 June 2014 Posted 6 June 2014 I know most people with bite my head of at this but i think hes useless, yeah hes scored a few goals with us but we only got him for the fact he had a few good months were he scored 14 goals, if you look at the rest of his clubs and his record its dreadful and i wish we hadnt of got him, hes lazy, never heads the ball he backs into defenders like he wants to get done in the ass by them , never seems to be able to control the ball i dont see why an earth we payed £2.5 million when hes not worth even half of that
Micky Posted 6 June 2014 Posted 6 June 2014 Very good championship striker. Does not fit into our system. I don't think he will ever be Premier league standard. Not good enough in the air for his height and not mobile enough. Would not get a sniff out of a top premier league centre back.

Dan Posted 6 June 2014 Posted 6 June 2014 He's a quality finisher - from both inside and outside the box (that goal at Burnley is not out of his character) however I think his all-round game is extremely limited. Wood will succeed in a team that is built around him - but why would we build one around him when we've built a better side?
