Feed The Yak!! Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 1- That was 8 years ago 2 - They got knocked out in the group stage in 2010, drawing against NZ in the process. As a neutral, I honestly believe that England will beat Italy quite well. 3 - Absolutely ran the game in 2012, don't think Buffon touched the ball Personally I think it'll be a draw. Italy always start slow at tournaments but I would be very surprised if they manage to lose to that English team, if it's "quite well" I'll eat my hat.
AKCJ Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Hart Abate Cahill Barzagli Baines Candreva Gerrard Barkley Sterling Cerci Sturridge Either that or swap Barkley and Cerci and replace Cerci with De Rossi.
Feed The Yak!! Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Sirigu, Buffon, Abate, Darmian, Barzagli, Bonnuci, Chiellini, Pirlo, De Rossi, Cerci, Immobile, Balotelli, Insigne. That's 13 players who'd be on the plane to Brazil if they were English. Abate over Johnson, that is all I would have as well, especially not Pirlo.
Stadt Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Verratti is very good but I'm not sure I'd put him in the first 11 though.
CupidStunt Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Guess you haven't watched much Premier League football then mate if you think Sterling and Lallana haven't got work rate mate, they have the work rate but the attacking intent, the excitement and the ability to beat a man and bring fear to another team. The Italian full backs will be rubbing their hands together if them pair start next weekend. Not sure what you are trying to get at there mate, did you mean if they "dont" start?

Would have liked Maggio ahead of Abate as well but fitness did for him as it did for Rossi.

Although I think the same was said about Zaccardo before 2006 and we know how that turned out.
Dan Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 My word. I'm pretty sure there were people saying that kind of stuff about Germany in 2010. Not a single player if that isn't a wind-up then he should be sacked on the spot.

Would like to see both start against England.
Amin Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 I just hope for Mark's sake that he never meets Mina Rzouki.
Grandad. Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 3 - Absolutely ran the game in 2012, don't think Buffon touched the ball Personally I think it'll be a draw. Italy always start slow at tournaments but I would be very surprised if they manage to lose to that English team, if it's "quite well" I'll eat my hat. For the final time, you do realise that game in 2012 finished 0-0 don't you? Personally I wouldn't brag and say a team 'absolutely ran' a game in a 0-0 draw, doesn't make you look that good.. In my eyes anyway. England had a chance early on where Buffon made a fantastic save from Glen Johnson, so if it wasn't for him they would of been 1-0 down very early on, Hart never kept England in the game, Italy's wayward shooting was terrible. Not sure what you are trying to get at there mate, did you mean if they "dont" start? I did mean 'if they don't start'. ---- Pirlo wouldn't get in for England, there is strolling round and picking holes in Serie A and there is doing so in the Premier League, Serie A is cat piss. 30 games, 4 goals and 6 assists? Really, that is some world class midfielder who is controlling games in a team that strolled Seria A? **** off. He is an absolute myth, and if England are worried about him then that is worrying. He wouldn't get in ahead of Steven Gerrard, I'm sorry but he wouldn't and yes, that is the only position he could take in the England side.
Charnwood Norris Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Woy needs to stop being PC and drop Rooney. He can always bring him off the bench. Prediction 1-0 to England w/this lineup... Hart Jones, Cahill, Jagileka, Baines Henderson, Gerrard Sterling, Barkley, Lallana Sturridge

Grandad. Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 He wouldn't? Anyone picking Pirlo over Steven Gerrard is a danger to the general public, back to the nuthouse.
Ric Flair Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Collymore upset a few on talksport last night with him raising the debate as to where Wayne Rooney fits in to this team on merit alone, which blatantly he doesn't. However, people who take the moral high ground about players should only be picked on form and form alone is very naive. Any quality player who suffers a slump would never get over it if they weren't picked, how could they? I don't necessarily question Rooney's form, I question his talent. His game has changed and that's not form or a confidence problem, it's something bigger. Rooney has only ever been a world class player when he could beat a man and run at teams. He's a poor passer of the ball by large and his finishing is at it's most lethal when he's gone past players and space has opened up or when he's playing as a poacher, a penalty box striker which I think is where his future should be for club and country. I simply don't rate him as a number 10 player anymore, he's not skilfull enough. Will Hodgson play him there this summer? I doubt it otherwise he'd have tried him there in the friendlies, so we've got to accomodate him behind Sturridge and hope for the best. Thankfully we've some serious talent in Sterling, Lallana, The Ox and Barkley that all is not lost. Perhaps space can be made for Wayne to make an impact but the moment he starts dropping in to space that our deep lying central midfield are supposed to be means we're in for a battle of a game that will lack fluency and movement. Rooney is a hinderence in this part of the pitch, it's beggers belief how Hodgson let's him get away with it. Play him off the shoulder of Sturridge with the instructions to get in to the channels and we'll be far more effective, or bench the lad. I am convinced Sterling will start on Saturday, everything points towards it for me. Well logically it does but there's still that nagging doubt I have over Roy where he'll be too cautious. We lack ideas regularly when we shouldn't and therefore the most gifted player in terms of pace and trickery, fearlessness and form must start. The rest of the team kind of picks itself right now, with the likes of Barkley, Wilshere and Lambert there to make an impression when given the chance and as the tournament progresses then they may force themselves in from the start of games. I'm absolutely delighted that The Ox is back in training, he'd be one of the first on the teamsheet for me, he's got everything. I wouldn't rule him out making a cameo on Saturday, I think he's the one that could be our star this summer. There's several candidates and Sterling and Barkley have had stonking seasons but Ox is a big game player and has proven already for England that he raises his game even further, I am desperate for him to be back in the mix.
Stadt Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Rooney's injuries have prevented him from being one of the elite and have forced him to lose what little pace he had, that's why he doesn't take people in anymore either I reckon.
Ric Flair Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Rooney's injuries have prevented him from being one of the elite and have forced him to lose what little pace he had, that's why he doesn't take people in anymore either I reckon. Possibly, the other reason is that he has been hoodwinked by the whole nation that he's our playmaking genius and has been played deeper by club and country in recent years and his style has changed massively. The way he trains and thinks could have caused the change in his pace and conditioning. His best ever club season was 2010 when he scored 34 goals as an out and out striker and that is where he should play. If he cannot play there then i'd dispose of him.
MooseBreath Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 I'm still holding out a feint hope that rooney has been holding back and is ready to come exploding out into the tournament. But I hoped for the same in 2012 and was left disappointed by his literal sunday league standard performances. No doubt if he is dog shit again this year we'll have the old "he wasn't fit" excuse trotted out yet again which is wearing pretty thin. It's make or break time for rooney in an england shirt for me. As for the game, I think it's a must win if we're to progress. If we fail to beat italy then I can't see us beating Uruguay, then facing costa rica having not won a game, we'll probably struggle there too. Get a win against italy and we might just scrape through.

Like every other nation in the world would do, it's just in this country you're not allowed to drop your best players because of the media, you drop them and you don't win then you're blasted and if he plays and doesn't perform you are blasted. Spain don't just find a position for Torres, Kaka was dropped from Brazil, Higuain isn't put on the left for Argentina and there will have been hundreds of more instances, it's just in England where you have to persist with an out of form footballer and play them no matter what.

I know mate, it drives me insane. He's a striker, he always has been and always will be. He's been ruined by any notion he's a play maker. Now we're screwed.
Beliall Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 cue rooney going on to win the golden boot and have the tournament of his life, hopefully
Grandad. Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 I would love nothing more than to be proven wrong with Wazza but if he starts on Saturday and it is yet again a nothing performance then he has to be dropped, no point in persisting with him.
