Grandad. Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 Tactically speaking Rooney will be fine on the left. Whether he is playing well or not, he works his nuts off and has always done a great job for United in that position. The question with Rooney, as ever, is whether his touch will be good enough on the day. He's looked horribly out of sorts recently and he's such a streaky player that his level of performance in a game tends to be fairly predictable based on the previous one. Why play him on the left though when you have players who play there naturally? It's the world cup everyone will be working their nuts off, just doesn't make sense to me.
kingcarr21 Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 im starting to lean towards a 4-1-3-2 formation. Hart Johnson Cahill Jagielka Baines Gerrard Sterling Barkley Lallana Rooney Sturridge That attacking 5 is frightening. Pirlo wouldnt know what hit him. Rooney then can just focus on attacking and forming a good partnership with Sturridge.
Ric Flair Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 I think the 4-2-3-1 will actually interchange to a 4-3-1-2 which is exactly like Liverpool play in games. Suarez is forever drifting all over the front line and dropping in to the hole occupied by Sterling and if Rooney is told to play up top but run the line in to the channels with Sturridge then it leaves a lot of space for Sterling to cause havoc. I'd play Lallana as well who can re-inforce central midfield if needs be but can also give us width and attacking guile. With Barkley on the bench to come on when there's tired legs out there, i'm absolutely buzzing for Saturday, I just hope it all falls in to place and we can take our chances.

Hahahahaaa that would be some attacking statement, bring in The Ox for Lallana when he;s fit and we could be the new pioneers of World football.
Simmo86 Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 Anybody else seen the pictures of the pitch for Saturday? More like a beach!
Bert Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 Anybody else seen the pictures of the pitch for Saturday? More like a beach! Maybe it'll stop Pirlo tearing us another new arsehole
Tommy G Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 the pitch looks horrific. The organisation for the WC by Brazil has been a shambles so far
Grandad. Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 Maybe it'll stop Pirlo tearing us another new arsehole Don't worry mate, he is going to be getting dragged all over the place by Sterling to be doing anything like that. It's not 2012 anymore!
AKCJ Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 I am warming to the idea of this.. Gerrard Henderson -------- Wilshire Sterling Sturridge ----- Rooney Dont think we should play this. Purely because I think Barkley is more suited to that role behind the strikers and we'd then be left without Sterling who is one of our players we simply cant drop. I think one of the main things people have overlooked is that Sturridge hasnt been successful (generally) on his own upfront. I'd play Rooney and Sturridge up front together.
Grandad. Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 Barkley isn't more suited though, Barkley has probably played deeper than Sterling this season. Sterling played the last two months of the season in that role and was one of the best players in the league in the last few months. No need to argue about this anyway, seems the team is all but confirmed now. Ross Barkley won't be starting.

Grandad. Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 Are you mental mate? We're playing Italy, World Cup winners. Ah yeah, shit and we're playing two time winners Uruguay! Poor Roy and the boy.
CosbehFox Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 Anybody else seen the pictures of the pitch for Saturday? More like a beach! Disgrace. Apparently there's open electric cables in the tunnel too and they are still asphalting the roads!
J.Lisemore Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 Would be more than happy to see Sturridge and Rooney start up top. A bit of attacking intent would be nice Roy, instead of holding back. We've got the quality.

I meant that we should look to play both Barkley and Sterling because thryre probably two of our best players. So I think we should play a formation that incorporates wingers or a midfield 3 and put Barkley in there with freedom to roam. Is the side that you posted this one thats all but confirmed? Cant say id br too disappointed, just wish we could find room for Barkley.
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 I would have thought if Sterling, Rooney and Lallana are playing they would be given the freedom to play right across the front of the back four when we have the ball. But maybe Roy will be too focused on covering our full backs to dare.
HEGGSY Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 Danny Welbeck and The Ox miss today's training session in Rio.
lgfualol Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 I feel a 2-2. Lallana and Cahill. Ridiculous to see a pitch like that. You would have thought the billions they plowed into building a bunch of stadiums, the demolition of rainforests, politicians' wallets and neglection of starving/ill children and citizens whom live in boxes... they'd at least have it all ready.

A draw is very possible but I doubt there'll be 4 goals in the game.

Leicesterpool Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 There's talk of a pitch inspection now, blimey this is such a shambles.
Dan Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 Said it before and I'll say it again but this should've never ever been in Brazil. Shambolic.
