Dan Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 I have literally no idea where this idea of Hodgson's perceived 'negativity' has come from. In most games I have seen England play since his arrival we have been on top for the majority. Citing the game against Italy in 2012 doesn't do it for me - it's too long ago to have any bearing on next week's game. Wednesday was a perfect example IMO. We were ripping Ecuador to shreds but we started sitting back? I think his worst negativity is actually when we're ahead. Often sits on a one goal lead and often pays for it.

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 One massive blow for England is certainly Theo Walcott I do believe this would have been his tournament, the same for Andros Townsend. So far Adam Lallana hasn't convinced me he's an international player. You'd rather have taken Andros Townsend over Adam Lallana? Find the nearest bin and hop in it.

Start a poll - Townsend or Lallana.
Manwell Pablo Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 They've looked like they can be got at tonight, and the players that had done the damage to Fluminese probably wont start on Saturday.
David Guiza Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Heard that Italy are likely to start with Cassano and Ballotelli up top, which maybe means they might be a little more open than everybody expects. I think, if there is there is one, the first goal is massive. You don't want to be chasing a game in that heat against anyone, especially a team who likes to keep the ball. I think a tight 1-0 with Jags and Cahill being the stand out performers.

HEGGSY Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 We will win this. We'll go 1-0 up in the first 10 minutes and hang on. Gerrard to score.
Jon the Hat Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 http://www.football365.com/john-nicholson/9342871/25-England-Fans-To-Avoid... A little guide on who to avoid. That, sadly, is every England Fan covered...
Jon the Hat Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Sterling to win a penalty which Gerrard converts. Italy with a flukey equaliser by Balotelli, then sub Barkley to win it after replacing Rooney who wrecked his achilles / broke his foot in a pointless challenge in midfield. Barkley plays from then on, starring in wins against Uruguay, Costa Coffee and Columbia, before we tear Spain a new a**ehole in the quarter finals, before someone who isn't dying in the heat strolls to a 3-0 win against us, exhausted and sweaty as we are, in the Semi. Done.
Corky Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Lawro's confident, not one Italy player would get in our team.
Manwell Pablo Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Lawro's confident, not one Italy player would get in our team. EH?
J.Lisemore Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Ciro Immobile must be pushing for a start after that performance. Looks lethal.
Manwell Pablo Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 It was in the Mirror today, Lawrenson's article. Jesus Let me see if I can find it. "How many players in the Italy side would get into our England World Cup first team? I wouldn’t take any of them. Not even Pirlo" Fking ell. . All for being upbeat but that's just down right stupid. Abate over Johnson at least surely
Grandad. Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Abate over Johnson, that is all I would have as well, especially not Pirlo.
Super_horns Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Hope that Lawrenson comment isn't the kiss of death - remember Alan Hansen pre Germany in 2010 when he seemed to suggest none of their player were good enough.
C-man Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Abate over Johnson, that is all I would have as well, especially not Pirlo. I'd take any one of Chiellini, Bonucci or Barzagli over Jagielka to be honest. Their midfield is full of experience but I like our youth. Having said that, Motta's had a great season at PSG. Think I'm right in saying he completed the most passes in Europe this year so wouldn't mind him alongside Henderson/Wilshere. I would also like the option of an out-and-out finisher like Immobile too. Wouldn't necessarily start him ahead of Sturridge but he'd run him close.

I'm not even getting sucked into anything you've said mate, especially if you wouldn't mind Motta at the expense of Gerrard.

Haha, I'm not on a wind-up mate - I would've thought it'd be common sense to take one central defender from a team that has dominated Serie A for the last two years over Phil Jagielka who has been injured since February? I agree that getting into a discussion about Gerrard would be a waste of everyone's time
